The wiring on these sometimes hangs low and gets caught up on brush and damaged. It's not at all uncommon and the solution is usually to crawl underneath, examine all the wiring and connectors and fix what might be damaged.

If you have an eHydro or ePowrReverser transmission an indicator on the right fender may be flashing a code that repeats, a series of short and long blinks. For eHydro it is a repeating series of four flashes and I think the ePowrReverser is five or six flashes. See if that is flashing and post the code here to have someone interpret it.

Codes are in the technical manual. The list includes fault causes, machine responses, pointers to locations in the manual to begin troubleshooting and how to reset the codes. There are separate lists for eHydro and ePowrReverser transmissions.

Assuming you have an eHydro the short-long-long-long code means "Valve output to Forward or Reverse coil". The fault cause is "The calculated value for the coil resistance exceeds the valid range due to open in short circuit", so it does sound like the wiring got messed up. To reset you power cycle the machine to off then try again. If problem continues and you can't see a wiring problem you'd probably need the technical manual to troubleshoot (wiring diagrams, connector pin-outs, etc).

I had two zerks on a grapple that would not take grease. These were the ones that the top grapple jaw pivoted on. After some fiddling it turns out that when the jaw is closed it would not take grease but with the jaw opened slightly it would. So you might try pivoting the axle to see if you can get it to take grease before changing the zerk.

These days on cars without roller cams cam wear is a big deal due to the reduction in ZDDP from oil. Not sure how that affects diesels but it must since JD's break-in oil is often recommended for cam break in due to higher ZDDP content.

They sell surfactants for the use on plants. I used to have a bottle but the label fell off so it probably got tossed in the last move.

Frank, no offense taken. I worded my response poorly and didn't mean to address it to you personally, just the collective "you" as in "anyone".

My frustration comes from the government looking for any reason to raise taxes and socially reengineer society rather than to leave people the heck alone. As Ben Franklin said, "Those who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety".

What part do you need? There often are friction supply houses that can reline the disk and some places can rebuild the entire unit. Not sure if that would be cheaper but it might be worth a few phone calls to find out.

Generally some latitude is given to dealers who answer questions with links that are germane to the discussion and a lot of posts by so called "dealers" are deleted because they only want to sell product and never answer anything. Tommy generally helps out, and his help is appreciated, but I don't know what was said.

We generally do try to discourage advertising in posts and relegate it to the classified section and to paid ads.

Regarding the other sites, I stopped going to those long before becoming a moderator here. There might be more traffic but there is huge amount of irrelevant noise. Just how often does the best tractor wax need to be discussed? ;-) And don't get me started on how often someone is banned from some sites because they disagree with the moderators politics or some other arbitrary reason. But freedom of choice is a wonderful thing and folks are free to go wherever they wish.

We have some inlaws whose kids were into that. They were far more worried about steroids. After a couple of months of denial it was discovered that they were using steroids.

As far as the protein shakes, I'd look at the ingredients and research any that you haven't heard of.

A few years ago I had the same decision and opted for a tow behind splitter. It can be hauled into the woods and set up for standalone operation while the tractor can be used to haul loads of split firewood back to the house or to grapple a log up for bucking close to the splitter. And there's no issues with trying to lift it for 3ph mounting or to muscle it around for storage when it's not mounted. I chain it to a tree and leave it in the area that is being worked and then move on to the next spot. No opinion on the horizontal vs. vertical, mine is horizontal and I'm happy with it.

Just an idea, for fun you might add a cetane booster like Power Service to the fuel and see if it quiets down. A diesel rattle can sound like a mechanical rattle. If you don't drive your tractor for a month or two at a time it will help keep the fuel from going bad too.

In the tire store we had the "lowrider" problem of trying to fit a narrow tire on a wide wheel, the beads just would not seat. The solution was to wrap a pneumatic band around the center of the tread and inflate it. That squeezed the tread in, which separated the beads enough to seat.

I haven't tried that on a small tire but a similar solution might work. If you have a ratcheting nylon cinch strap you could try wrapping it around the center of the small tire and tighten it up to see if the beads will spread enough to seat.

This info came from the tech manual. I have not had a need to look at it on my 4310 so can't answer from personal experience but hopefully this will help.

There is a MFWD pin in the transmission that is spring loaded so if the MFWD solenoid is off or not working 4WD is engaged. When in 2WD the solenoid is supposed to pull the pin in to disengage MFWD. In other words, the solenoid is energized for 2WD and deenergized for MFWD.

Since the indicator light goes on and off there is power to the switch. From the switch is a white wire that goes to the MFWD solenoid, so it's likely that there is a problem with that wiring circuit or with the solenoid or the transmission pin is stuck or broken.

Under the seat area (not sure if it's above or below the floorboard) is a Y shaped wiring harness that goes from a connector to two solenoids. One of the solenoids is the rear PTO (does that work?) and the other is for MFWD.

Disconnect the Y harness from the connector and check voltage at the white wire on the male connector side. With the ignition key turned on and the MFWD switch turned off (light off) there should be battery voltage at the white wire. If that is good then check that the black wire(s) on the female connector side has continuity with ground.

If these things check out then maybe someone can operate the MFWD switch and you can try to hear if the solenoid clicks in and out when it operates. If so, then maybe the transmission pin is stuck or broken.
