My 3 pt. rear lift arms do not work now. I have a Woods BH on now.The hyd. hose comes from PB port on loader valve to hoe . Return hose goes to 3pt. lift housing,I assume to reservoir. When I remove my backhoe what do I do. Turn screwdriver valve in diverter valve and remove quick connectors. Do I do anything with the hose from the PB port?
Will my rear lift work then?

I think you need a length of hose to connect the PB line together when the hoe is removed. Switching the diverter valve to 'remote' should make the 3ph work, but the loader wouldn't.

Unless I mistake the situation, in the tractor's current state, there is no return path from the pump to the sump unless the loader is operated and the loader valve has a TANK return in addition to the PB line. The relief valve would be open and prolonged operation will over-heat the oil and damage the pump. ....

How do you get the loader and rear lift to work at the same time. I see people using their rear lift for mowing and still use their loader. ....

craig56,
I just sent you a e-mail with a schematic of how the loader and backhoe are connected on my tractor. Both with and with out the backhoe, the rear lift will work when connected like these show. Look them over and see if they help. ....

Craig,

TomG is on the right track, and look at Jerry's schematic. I would re-plumb the whole thing and bypass your loader controls. Get a single valve conrol at TSC and T off the tractor's pump to the new TSC valve. What you want to do is add 2 wet lines the the rear of the tractor for your backhoe without plumbing to the loader controls. When you need power to the backhoe, bungee cord the TSC valve open. Make sure you identify the 2 quick connection at the rear of you tractor so you dont hook up the backhoes lines wrong to them. TomG knows what I'm talking about and can explain it in more detail. When you get it right you can use any single cylinder 3 point hydraulic implement or a hydro top link which can be controled by the new TSC valve usually located on the Tractor's fender. LOL, us guys using a separate PTO pump for the backhoe don't have these problems, but we do like controllable wet lines to the rear. Tell them how it's done TOMG. ....

Connecting a line between the connectors where the backhoe was would make the 3ph work on most hookups. Jerry's schematic may make the idea clearer. However, the 3ph won't work at the same time as the loader if the loader valve is a PB type (has two return lines on its outlet-section). If the valve has only one return line the 3ph will lift when the loader is moving but at reduced capacity since both the loader and 3ph weight is moved.

Installing another valve assembly in place of the hoe valve is another option because rear valve controlled outlets are handy as Jeff noted. The valve assembly should be rated for PB applications. Installing t-fitting in the high pressure line might take some thought. A t-fitting might provide two open return paths to the sump (through each valve when nothing is working). No pressure could be developed unless the return paths on both sides of the t-fitting were closed (either by operating a valve or by a shut-off). Operating a valve on each side of the t-fitting would be like a tandem hookup. Two cylinders would be active but the one with the least load moves first until it's load exceeds the second cylinder's load and then the second cylinder moves. That's the way most loader valves work for linkages that allow operation of two valves simultaneously.

In any hookup you do have to keep track of pressure and return lines. Connecting a valve backwards can ruin the valve and hydraulic pump. Many rear-PB kits use different connectors to prevent wrong connections. I use a rear valve controlled hookup to run my hoe and a backwards connection is possible. I use coloured plastic tie straps to code the lines.

I really think the connector hose mentioned should fix the problem. Such a hose is supplied as part of the JD PB kit for their hoes. There should have been one at one time unless the hoe installer never intended the hoe to be removed.

If the hoe hoses were connected the tractor with threaded fittings, quick-connect female fittings on the ends and male connects on the hoe hoses should work (good idea to use different sized fittings so the connection couldn't be reversed. Most any hydraulics shop or dealer should be able to make up a hose. Maybe there are better connectors than quick-connects for the application. It wouldn't be great to have them pull apart and not notice that the relief valve was open.

It doesn't sound too difficult unless I've got the problem wrong. It's better to look good on two tractors rather than one, but not at the same time I guess. Using the N might be less of a pain than switching the diverter back and forth. You'd be looking good there too especially if the paint is relatively new.
