Just bought a 2000 Tc 33d with 81 hours. I have it stuck in pto. I cannot start the tractor with pto engaged and cannot get the tactor out of pto without tractor running. Please help! I cannot use my new toy!!! Sunny and 70 degrees today. Going to be rain and 40 degrees tomorrow> HELP!!!!!!

Farmhog,try rocking the pto shaft with a pipe wrench or
something.If it has a gear trans you could pull start it. ....

Thanks, have HST so guess pull start is out. Also have bucket and bushhog flat on ground. How screw up can you get hugh? Will try the pipewrench.

I'm a day late and it's probably about to start raining. Guess that's the price of Internet early in the morning. Oh well, maybe I have nothing useful to say anyway.
Without knowing the tractor I'm assuming it has a mechanical PTO engage lever. I don't know if there's a mid-pto and if so how it engages. From the description, I'm assuming that an engage lever is in the engage position and won't move.
My first inclination would be to try and rock the tractor. Even if it's HST, most TX range sections have gears. Gears and at least the output shaft should rotate and the PTO drive likely is involved somehow. I'd rock it 2wd with the range in neutral and then in low. Rotating the PTO drive manually also would be good, but also wouldn't work if the tractor has a hydraulic pto brake.
If I couldn't free up the lever, I might be tempted to jump the safety interlocks so the tractor could be started. If there's a hydraulic pto brake, it would then release--if it's working. However, there are some safety risks to persons and property, and if the drive is locked up there's the possibility of breaking something in the drive train. Thinking it through maybe I wouldn't try to start it unless I knew the tractor very well--especially if there was any indication of abnormal operation before the last shut-down. I'd also check fuses if the PTO's are electrically engaged.

Thanks Tom and everyone. Discretiion being the better part valor, I am going to have the dealer take a look. I am a tractor nubie but have discovered that the greater part of farming is breaking things and hurting yourself. Fun so far.

Thanks for the advice. Had the dealer take a look. Seems I jammed the linkage by not engaging the clutch before shifting into pto. Not used to doing that on my JD 5310. I guess that is what they call a single stage clutch.

It sounds like a simple fix and I hope it is. Jamming done by a previous owner of my Ford is why I ended up with a broken 4wd linkage. Well, I probably should have noticed and wondered why the engage lever was welded back on to its collar before I bought the tractor. Realistically, it probably wouldn't have made any difference. It was the right tractor for me and still is.
The TC is sort of the progeny of my Ford. Two TX's were available and I have the synchromesh 12 x 4 version that has live PTO as well. Sounds like NH may have used the non-synchromesh version in the TC series, and that TX used a TX driven PTO (which isn't live by definition) and an internal over-running clutch.
I have noticed on my Ford that I have to keep on top of the clutch adjustment or the PTO clutch starts dragging even with the clutch fully depressed. Then, the PTO doesn't engage without some grinding.
