I've gotten several quotes together over the past month or so and learned a lot by visting most dealers within a 100 mile radius. Seems a new TC 30 w/FEL and 5' rotary cutter may be the "newer" option (my local dealer quoted me $14,900 plus 6.5% tax).But I found a TC 33 w/7308 FEL and 290 hours with 2 years still under waranty for $13,500 plus the same tax at a dealer 90 miles away yesterday afternoon. It looks virtually new except the top edge of the bucket has some waves due to lifting points attached by the former user. I'm tired of paying someone $150 to bushhog my pastures when I could keep the briars and other junk weeds out of the grasses by cutting every 2 weeks or so. Also, I've got mucking to do and hopefully soon some riding rings to take care of. Which is the best way to go? Or are there any options I need to consider. Part of me is itching to go today and buy one so I can use it this weekend. My wife was having a minor stroke at the prices (originally she said I had to keep it all under $8,000! so I've come a long way since spring)

Is it the 33 or the 33D If it is the 33D that is the way i would go. ....

I bought my Ford 1710 used and the reason was that winter was approaching, I had to complete install a new underground electric service and couldn't get either an electrician or a contractor to come to the country. I got the tractor along with a backhoe to do the trenching and did the wiring myself.
I spent a lot of time talking at my wife rationalizing the price and I kept getting 'Why' questions. The 'Why's' produced more rationalization. She eventually said 'It's something you want and so we'll just get it. Don't worry about the price.' Guess she was tired of getting talked at.
Part of talking at my wife identified some on-going work for the tractor--construction, landscaping, drive maintenance and snow removal. Other uses just evolved. However, tractors are expensive and it's good to keep them busy. Otherwise at some point everybody involved is likely to start thinking about what else could have been done with the money. I'm not sure the description of uses for the tractor doesn't sound like it would be too busy but maybe there are some things that weren't mentioned. I'd also keep in mind that evolving uses for a tractor usually require implement purchases and there's always maintenance. Parts aren't cheap.
In terms of the choice: Used tractors even under warranty tend to have a price tag for curing somebody else's problems so I'd add a bit on the used tractor price. If tractors have to back to the dealer there are transportation costs and I'd find out what they are. I'd also figure if warranty service could be switched to a local dealer if that's an agreeable place to do business.
In terms of the tractors: They both are economy tractors without a lot of bells 'n whistles' so they are fairly comparable. The 33 probably has about 3 - 5 more PTO HP depending on whether it's the 33 with gears or the 33D with HST. HST's take power but are nicer to use and generally have lower maintenance costs, which makes a tractor with HST worth more. From the description of work for the tractor either of them should do it so I wouldn't worry a lot about power differences.
