Just like some insight from users, not equipment sellers. I have a ford 1320 diesel 4x4 hydrostatic compact tractor. I want to add a backhoe attachment to it. I've heard some horror stories about the Woods attachment. I heard that Great Bend has a good attachment and of course New Holland equipment. I don't expect to do a lot of work with it but it's probally cheaper than renting a backhoe every time i need one. If anyone has any input, i would greatly appreciate it. I'm looking for comments on ease of use and price. thanks in advance.

I used a Kelley B650 (6.5' max depth) on my 1710 for several years. It's a 3ph mount. There's plenty of discussion in the archives about the risks of 3ph hoes to tractor frames. I don't know how the 1320 frame compares to a 1710. However, I think a 3ph mount is appropriate for occasional light use, and it's hard to beat the cost and convenience. The soil is sandy here, and I do take it easy with the hoe. I avoid trying to break large roots or move big rocks. I also never stretch out the boom and dipper and then try to dig with the bucket curl. That's not a good idea with any type of mount. So, I just try to go easy by not digging too many feet of trench between tractor moves. I may have to re-position the tractor more often, and that's a pain. However, my hoe is for occasional use. There's a neighbour with a big old Case hoe, and I can trade some work if I need to do some heavy-duty digging. ....

I've just about ready to take delivery on my 4th compact tractor (actually the new one isn't so compact- NH TN75S with a Woods 1050 BackHoe)
At least around here, I don't hear any bad things about Woods. My other machines Ford/NH 2120 has a Ford 758 (made for ford by Arps and is 12 years old- good service- and I use it heavy quite often), I'm keeping the 2120, but trading the backhoe for the larger Woods hoe. Prior to that I had a Ford 1710 with a Ford hoe and that was okay for a machine it's size. I'm getting 3 point on the new Woods 1050. Larger tractor can handle 3 point hoes. One of the main reasons I'm geting the new machine is for the larger hoe and the amount of time it takes to go from 3 point equipment to a frame mounted backhoe. Having just said that, I would not put any hoe on a 1310 without a frame mount (and not just for safety reasons)- I spend enough time at my "large" Kubota/New Holland dealer to see numerous compact tractors with cracked cases each year from 3 point backhoe use.
I also disagree on the issue of digging with bucket curl. Having grown up on a nursery, I have been using backhoes for over 35 years, and trying to think about how I dig, I believe I do most of my digging with bucket curl and a far amout of it is done with the booms all or most of the way extended (and to think you won't be doing that, particularly on a small hoe I believe is kidding yourself). Come to think of it, I can't imagine how you dig with the dipper stick itself? These small hoes pull hard, and they can damage themselves or the tractor (get a subframe and protect your tractor)
Just wanted to give you a little insite from my experience.
Don't diiscount Woods (they make excellent hoes) and also remember ( I made this mistake once and I hated the hoe- on my earliest Compact a small JD, I bought a Deere hoe that didn't swing 180 degrees- I couldn't wait to get rid of it)

I have only had my hoe for about a year it's a Woods 750 on the back of my L2250 Kubota , it came with the 3pt mount but being one who has to improve on things, I looked at many frame mounts and fabricated one myself, out of 2x4 tubing, and mounted it all the way up to the loader frame. It takes about 20 minutes to unmount or remount but I'm not abusing my machine.I,m very happy with the performance of the 750,it digs fine with the 16in. bucket,check around you might find something used in decent shape.
