I put a block heater in my 790, it was plesantly easy to do. There is a drain cock on the injector pump side of the block for draining coolant, slid a hose on to it to drain the block with out a mess. The exhaust manifold side has a 1"NPT plug that can be removed and replaced with the heater. The plug has thread locker on it so I first warmed the engine by letting it run for about 10 min., then drained the warm (not hot) coolant, put a propane torch on the plug for about 30 seconds and the plug unscrewed easily. I didnt even burn the paint off the block. The heater I used (TEMRO #3100003) screwed right in with some thread sealer - no leaks. The dealer wanted $160 to supply and istall a heater, I did it for about $30.

The one I have is the same one the dealer installed on his 790 (except he burnt the paint around the NPT plug). I got mine right from Phillips & Temro, in the USA call 1-800-328-6108 or 952-941-9700, in Canada 204-667-2260. ....

I have a 2005 790 that I want to put a heater on. Do I need the JD OEM adapter kit to go with it? I'm not even sure what it's for, but a few other forums I have seen have mentioned it.
