I was moving dirt with my 1998 JD 4100 HST Tractor and I stopped to reverse direction and now tractor will not move backwards or forward. The shifter between high and low now just slides back and forth and will not click into either position. Did some linkage come loose or is it more serious? Tractor was just serviced by dealer and hydraulic fluid is good. The tractor has 550 hours on it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are a couple of sensors that can be the cause. I had issues with 2 out of the three on my 4310 a few years ago. They are actually electronic switches that the linkage contacts. I had the dealer perform the repairs so I can't give any more details on the fix. Good luck ....
