When operating tractor, the loader and 3 pt hitch will randomly stop working. I shut off tractor and let it set overnight, then when I start tractor next day, hydraulics will work again for awhile until problem repeats itself.
Also, today new problem started. Was operating tractor and it powered down to an idle, I tried to give it more fuel with accelerator pedal. nothing. Then after a few minutes I was able to power back up to running speed. Have the manual, but do not know Nortrac tractors. Bought this one used.

Issues of this type are usually related to cavitation problems taking place in the hydraulic pump.
Cavitation can be caused by several things, either individually, or through a combination of things.
Air bubbles in the oil, caused by cavitation, will make it nearly impossible for the pump to develop any useful oil pressure. I have a good feeling that this is your problem, due to the fact that your pump seems to be working fine when cold.
Cavitation can be caused by starving the pump of fluid, which happens when you have a plugged sump screen. It can also be caused by using the incorrect hydraulic fluid. Hydraulic fluids containing detergents will quickly foam up, preventing the pump from building pressure. Water in the oil can cause these problems, as well.
When troubleshooting hydraulic problems, many people jump immediately to the pump as being the culprit, but this is rarely the case.
When was the last time you performed a complete fluid and filter change? Are you using the proper fluid? Have you attempted to remove and clean the sump screen.....provided this applies to your tractor?

My 404 runs aw32 hydro fluid, not universal which is 46 wt. They were very specific on this. ....

Thanks so much for your reply. Very helpful. The tractor was not run a lot by previous owner. We are going to change all fluids and filters and run some diesel conditioner through the tank. ....

Thank you for the heads up on fluid weight. Thankfully we have the owner's manual, and the tractor specialist at Northern Tool said the same thing about fluid weight. ....
