What are the pros of a Gear Transmission vs a Hydro other than a Gear is usually cheaper?

For me infinite speed adjustment with PTO at full speed at all times is critical for opertions like mowing where you need to constantly change speeds.
That said a Gear machine is generally simpler to repair than a Hydraulic based transmission. ....
