Hi, I having problems with a cub cadet 1863 with 18 hp Kohler. I bought it used two years ago. Seemed to work well last year but now it looses power to the point of not being able to cut.It doesn’t seem to be related to how hot the machine is. I had it to the shop but they weren’t able to find the cause. It doesn’t do it all the time and ran well for them. Their guess was probably electrical but would be expensive for them to find. The wiring has been altered over the years and most of the safety switches had been disconnected. Not sure if this would have anything to do with the problem but when the key is turned off it continues to run for a few seconds and than sounds like it runs out of gas.Thank you for any help you can give me .

Before jumping to a costly series of tests, I'd suggest making sure your gas tank is clean and also clean the carb.

Disconnect the gasline going into the fuel filter and collect in clean can. If large sediment in tank is clogging flow, it may go slowly or stop. Look for debris in collected gas. Take a gob of papertowels and stuff in gastank. Push around with clean paint stirrer stick. Pull out towel and check for debris. If flow wasn't good thru gasline backblow with compressor. Don't spray in eyes. Wipe tank again. Replace fuel filter and reassemble. Put in new gas and use a carb cleaner called Seafoam. Running the unit will self-clean. Clean air filter. Make sure electrical leads are tight and clean. Give it a go and look for improvement. ....

I have replaced fuel filter and air filter. Fuel flow seems fine . I have put a large see thru in line fuel filter on and it seems good . I also did the seafoam in the gas . If it is plugging up in the tank the filter would empty , right? ....

Try replacing the rubber fuel line, over time these rubber lines deterioate and as demand for fuel increases it tends to "suck" the line closed................whan demand for fusl goes down the line will return to the original shape making it hard to detect..................Hope this helps.

Checking the fuel line to the carb I had to take off the plate that the air cleaner mounts on. There is a hose that goes from the manifold and ends at the mouth of the carb. What does it do? It was rotted and just fell apart. ....
