I recently bought an 04 cadet 7304 tractor. It has "posi trac 4wd" and hydro gears..I have not used it for 3 hrs and the shaft going from the front axle to the rear power plant has fallen off twice. It is held with a set screw which was tightened after the first time. Anyone with a simular problem or a "fix" for this? Also I am happy with the power (30h diesel)But I am disappointed with the strength of the bucket lift. Is there a way to boost the strength of the bucket lift?

There is something wrong with a part on the drive shaft for it to be pulling it off. The shaft might be dry on the splines or possibly bent for that to be happening.
As far as the lift. I'd make sure with gauges that it might be less then it's supposed to be before any adjustments are made. ....

According to specifications on line it is supposed to lift about 750 lbs. to full height. The earlier series tractors like 7300/7305 had a different loader with 900 lbs. lift rating. ....

thanks Yooperpete. I have a simular size JD that lifts a lot more, I am wondering if the CC has some kind of kink in the hose or something.

I wouldn't think it would be a kink in the hose. Pressure is pressure, so a kink would only slow down the movement.
What you may have:
1. are bad piston seals which would allow leakage passed them reducing the lift. Does it want to lift higher on one side than the other? (i.e. one cylinder working correctly and the other not) If you raise the loader and turn off the tractor, does it drop down. It should stay at the same height for a long time (i.e. days)
2. a clogged hydraulic oil filter. When mine got dirty the suction collapsed it restricting flow and pressure.
3. a bad pump
4. a bad joystick valve that is leaking ....

I haven't been under one to look at the shafts but normally they have a splined area for extension of the shaft and they are often overlooked with teh grease gun!
About the hydraulics, we have adjusted many! More often then not up when they come from the factory low. The problem is with out a gauge is knowing how far to go. I have seen a quarter turn not do anything, as well as give way to much! ....

I called the dealer that I bought it from today. He says he has never had this problem before. He advised me to check the front axle. Maybe it is pulling away from the shaft. This seems to make sense to me, since the 2 times it has fallen have been on rough terrain. I spent the afternoon looking at all available nuts,bolts, nothing loose. I may have to take it to an expert. ....

looking at the parts breakdown it would have to be one end or the other moving! So start with the front end being loose! ....
