I strongly suggest to buy the proper tool from JD or take the engine to a dealer and have them remove the clutch. The JD tool is made of hardened steel, any home-made tool could bend and or get stuck causing more expenses. ....

Could you provide more detail on the bolt you used to pull the clutch off with? I assume it was 9/16 sae fine thread? What length of bolt? Did you use an additional smaller bolt as a spacer if the threads were too short on the 9/16 bolt?

I'm curious how you make out with the R&R of the clutch, in case I have to remove mine. I'm fortunate, a few of my neighbors work at the local JD dealership.. ....

I used a neighbours 9/16 fine thread bolt about 2 or 3 inches long as well as cutting an inch off the original bolt that holds the clutch on and cut a slot in the end for a screwdriver in case bolt did not turn out easily. So I used the 9/16 bolt to turn against the shortened bolt and tightened, then a hit with the hammer and off it came. I then went and bought a replacement bolt to hold the clutch on at a bolt supply business.
