Go Bottom05 JD CX gator drive gear box damage

I shifted a little to hard and heard something give in the gear box. I found a hole in the left axle casting that I can put my thumb in. Pieces of gear teeth had come out the hole.
Any idea what happened? What is it going to cost to fix?
