this is year 2 for my 850d is their any belt cover if not any ideas. love this gator have mud lites 27-12-12 on the back and 27-10-12 on the front. as have made snow plow to mount on 2"

I am in BelleRiver, Ontario and have just ordered a 2010 850D. At first I ordered the 620i but then on a whim called and changed it to the Diesel. I hope I made the rite move. I would like your email or something so I chat with you time to time based on your experience with yours. You metion off road lighting here..do I need to buy that john deere electrical kit to add my own lights? or can I just put in my own accesories fuse block off of the battery and add my own lights? My machine is axpected to arrive April 8th can't wait.

I have a 2009 JD Gator 850D (my second Gator). I am a loyal John Deere owner, most of my equipment is JD but the 850D was my worst purchase I ever made I will never have another Gator on this place after I trade this one off. It's noisy in the cab the heat from the front radiator is unbearable in the summer, there is no heat in the winter. It takes 5 minutes just to get the hood open if you have a cab, a powertach blade and the heavy brush guard in front. the brakes are always chattering and dragging. The front end growls unceasingly I had one CVU-joint go out last week. Very very undependable machine. Absolutely can't wait to get rid of it. My dealer says they are coming out with a new gator in May I think it has a Subaru gas engine, new brake system, goes 40 MPH, I told him I'm not interested. ....

sorry for you bad luck with the 850D or sounds like more with the xuv gator in grenally i to have some thing that i would like to change but we are always going to find thing that coud be diffence or more to your liking. what was your first gator was it a 6+4 our a hpx? ....

You guessed it my first Gator was a traditional 6x4 diesel. It was a good enough machine a little slow but mostly had no traction in mud or snow. The XUV is a really poor design, I tried a Bobcat for a couple weeks and have tested the 1100 Kubota either of those would have been a better choice. I was thinking about putting tracks on the Gator next winter but I don't think the drive train would handle it. There are a lot of Honda Big Red's and Polaris Ranger's with tracks in our area both seem to stand up pretty good, only a few Kubotas in the area that I know of, no tracks on them, but I rode in one it is so quiet and has air and heat as well as power steering not very good traction. I just felt real let down by John Deere for not recognizing and owning up to the problems. ....

Our first Gator was a 4 X 2, it was dependable but slow, had zero traction in any mud or snow, no problems to speak of. Second one was an HPX, 4 X 4 with a carbureted engine, great traction, but hard to start, would die when you put it into gear, Deere said there wasn't a fix for that, otherwise a good machine when you got it started. The Mrs. refused to drive it unless somebody would make it start better. I finally told the dealer thart if that was as good as it gets, I'm going shopping. Just then the XUV fuel injected came out 1000% improvement engine wise, starts just like your car, no choke, just turn the key it's running. We been happy with this one, Mrs. drives it almost daily. Only complaint is it steers a bit hard but the newest ones will have power steering the dealer said. I've never had a cab, so I don't know anything about the heaters etc. There is an issue of gasoline getting into the oil on some 620's, but so far so good here. The dealer said they have had one with a problem out of however many they sold. I have been Deere for a long time with farm equipment and all the lawn toys mainly because of a good dealer, but if mine does the gas in oil thing and Deere won't fix it I will find another color, there are other good dealers too. ....

Being you are from North Dakota I wondered how the Diesel Gator starts in the winter. I almost bought a diesel when we got the XUV, but was concerened about cold weather starting. I've pretty well decided the next Gator type machine we get will be a diesel unless they have cold start issues.
We used to come to ND quite often to visit friends who lived in La Moure County, great place, but just a bit more chilly than Iowa in the winter. ....

we used the bobcats at work some seen two or three guys almost killed themselfs on them that is no machine for me and for the kubotas heavy as they come. i looked at the tracks but did not like the 5000 dollars tag. think they would be nice through. like the big red but dont like the look of them.everyone buys diffence thing for diffence reasons. over all i am happy with my choice the xuv works well for me. ....

i to live in cold weather from out side of ottawa canada have no problem with cold starting was thinking at the first of winter to put in a block heater but not now. i have had no problem looking back so no heater. the yammar is a very good engine. ....

Yes that Yammar is an awsome engine and if the new Gator has a subaru gas engine I am glad I am getting a model with an engine we all know has proved itself in many types of Deere equipment. ....

My Gator starts in almost any weather. I do keep it in the garage and if it is extremely cold I plug in the block heater. Starting is never an issue for me and the Yanmar is a good engine. I just have issues with the cab noise, brakes chattering, and the weak drive train. ....

have you ever broke cv joints or anything like that i have no cab but have read that they let alot of dust in as well it that a problem for you. have had no brake issue but see they are like 70 or 80 bucks. ....

Just recently broke a CV joint. The axle and joint are replaced together and cost about $100 and the boot was about $20, very easy to fix.
Dust in the cab is unpleasant. I bought the cab to keep spray mist from getting on me and also for warmth during snow removal.

I want to remove the snow plow that came with the gator for the summer. The easiest way leaves the hydraulic cylinder hanging down--the other way requires a fair amount of disassembly. Anyone know a quick easy way?? thks ....

I live in northern NJ. On the diesel--make sure u either keep it in a warm area or add anti-freeze. I find that it sputters when u start in the winter from diesel gel.
Did you get the cab cover--if yes, i hate to warn you, but it is very loud and we wear ear protection when it is all closed up in the winter.
Does excellent job in finishing up snow-plowing.....i put chains on. I am having some issues in finding an easy way to take the plow off without having the hydraulic cylinder hanging down. If u know of any solution, please let me know.

i dont have any problem with fuel i think fuel in cold areas has anti gel in them. do you have any pic of your snow plow you use a hydraulic cylinder how does that work i use my winch all i have is a hook and one pin on the front hitch ....
