I am looking at buying a new JD 4320 open station tractor. I am getting a backhoe with it. The dealer is asking if I would accept the 448 backhoe instead of the 485. Does anybody have an opinion about them? Accordign to the dealer, the 448 is the same backhoe except some brackets that allow the 485 to be used on cab tractors. Does anybody know about differences between these backhoes?

Sam, I'm not familliar with a 485 hoe, but the 448 is a refinement of the 48. I've had a 48 for my 4310 for years and it has been a good trouble free unit, so I'd expect the 448 to be everything the 48 is only maybe as bit better. Frank ....

The explanation I received was that the mounting for the 485 has been modified slightly so that it can be used on both tractors with a cab and those without. The 448 did not fit tractors with a cab. Either would be fine for tractors without a cab. I have only had my 485 for a couple of weeks. I originally ordered the 448 but the dealer did not have any in stock and Deere converted all their 448 orders to 485.

I got the same answer, the 485 is a 448 with updated mounting brackets for hoses so it can be used with a cab tractor.

I got the mechanical spec sheet and all the digging dimensions and such are identical from the 448 and 485. ....
