Hi,
I've just changed the HST filter on my TC31DA, Fleetgaurd HF35254. The tractor goes for ~100' and then I hear a bit of a "pop" and the fluid is pouring out from around the filter.

I've pulled the filter twice, seal looks good, and the same thing all over again.

This is the second time I've changed the filter.

Any ideas? Thanks

You may want to try replacing your Hydraulic and transmission filters with actual New Holland filters. My neighbor had a similar problem with filters on his TC 33D.
Other than OEM filters MAY create more pressure causing seals to blow.

This link below is from an archived discussion on here about that problem. Steve ....

I agree with Justus, you don't want to skimp with the filters. I admit its tempting to save a few bucks on after-market filters, but at what risk? Buy genuine products and you'll never look back. Afterall, your not changing oil on these things as often as a car or truck. ....

Ironically, Fleetguard IS the manufacturer!

Go to a NH dealer and have them look up the number for both the OEM NH no. and the crossreferenced Fleetguard no.

If the one you bought has the same no. bring it to the attention of the dealer you bought from and the NH dealer and try to get them to contact Fleetguard to see what they can do for you. ....

I went to the www.messicks.com page and this is what I found as the NH part number. I was having navigation problems so I couldn't find anything more than this NH no.: SBA340500990
They have a Fleetguard reference chart but I couldn't navigate it. ....

This is the filter I got from my New Holland dealership! I wasn't trying to skimp, in fact, when he gave me the fleetgaurd filter, I said, "Hey, wait a minute, you guys are the ones that told me I needed to use New Holland parts...."

They assured me this would be fine. They told me the same thing, that fleetgaurd was the manufacturer.

At any rate, the difference is pretty obvious. Maybe it shouldn't make much difference, but the o-ring versus the taller rubber seal seems to work fine. I've got the old filter back on now so I'm up and running. They are ordering me a NH part as we speak.

I didn't think that the problem could actually be the resistance to folw inside the filter as opposed to the seal itself.

Thanks for all of your advice. I agree with you guys. Never skimp on filters.
