Anyone know what the gauge steel is used for the 62d drive over deck and the 72 inch non 7 iron deck for the Deere 2520 tractor. The 7 iron deck not avail for the 2520. The website doesn't give specifics on steel used. The dealer said 7 gauge and i couldn't destroy any deck 62d or the 72" midmount mower, are they all 7 gauge decks?

I don't know what what gauge steel either deck is constructed off but, I don't think the dealer that made that statement, "The dealer said 7 gauge and i couldn't destroy any deck 62d or the 72" midmount mower, are they all 7 gauge decks" has ever met my brother. Give him a 2 oz hammer and a 60 pound anvil and in two days the anvil will be destroyed. ....

Other then the potential for rust the most common reason to have a thick deck is for sand. The older decks that were made of stamped steel worked fine in most parts of the country. The sand in the south basically sand blasts them while in use. I've got the older welded decks from commercial machines over thirty years old out that are just fine with no impefections still working in NY. I'm not going to say the rest of it basically hasn't been rebuilt including engine and drives. ....

Art...What is your opinion...on John deere deck thickness and performance. Would a 10 gauge 62 drive over deck last just as long and perform just as good as a 72" 9 gauge deck and a 7 iron 7 gauge deck. I had someone on here answer one of my questions earlier as to 72inch decks. He said I would be unhappy without a 7 iron deck but it wasn't avail. for the 2520 deere tractor. Would anyone on here be dissappointed getting a new 2520 tractor with turf tires and with 62d drive over deck and a cx loader,to mainly mow once a week or so in ohio. ....
