Sold my tractor when oldest went to college now she's almost done. My thougts have turned to a new tractor. Have rented mini excavator to do work around property and have found the "thumb" really helpful. Anyone have any info on thumbs for compacts w/ backhoes?? Any thoughts re: tractor/loader/backhoe packages? John Deere TLB110 looks real nice as well as Kubota L39 but $$$$$ for both. Any help is appreciated.

The JD110 and the L39 are both industrial machines. Hence the big jump up in cost.

There are a number of aftermarket mechanical and hydraulic thumbs available for many of the popular CUT hoes. Since the dipper sticks are all different sizes, there is no universal kit. Although the foot-operated hydraulic thumb is nice, you may find a mechanical thumb works well enough.

The new Woods BHX series hoes with the curved booms do have a thumb option, as mentioned. If you find a dealer and get pricing for the BH80X, post them here. Also loader thumbs (grapples) are way different than backhoe thumbs. ....

Thanks guys for the help. I messed around on the Woods web site before posting this message and did not find any note re: thumbs. Any thoughts regarding smaller TLB (with thumb capabilities) that are more appropriate for the homeowner??
Again, Thanks! ....

Addington Equipment in N.H. makes one see link below. I have no expierence with their backhoe thumb but I did buy a grapple/rake from them for my loader and I love it. Very stout good quality, don't know how I got along without it for so many years:)

Perfect! This was exactly the kind of link that I was looking for, Thank You. It sounds like you have been pleased with their equipment in the past. I will be in touch with them BEFORE buying next CUT to make sure all is compatable.
