What would be a fair price on a JD 3010, gas, ps, live pto, 55hp, like new tires, do-all loader, hydraulic bucket. Approx 2500 hours on engine, new transmission. Owner says it's in Very Good Condition and is asking $5150. Also, what is the pros and cons on a narrow front end as opposed to a wide one. This tractor would be used on level ground. Any input would be appreciated. Thank You

Around the western US that would be considered an attractive price. These are very durable tractors with the capability to do large jobs. The wide front ends are available as are several aftermarket conversions. Typical used price for adjustable front axle with wheels and tires is between 750 and a thousand. Last I saw prices for an aftermarket wide front axle system (from Abilene Machine) it looked to be about 1500 by the time you get it all set up. Swapping the single front for a wide axle is almost a no-brainer. It can be done in a couple of hours with four bolts and a handfull of wrenches. The biggest problem is supporting the tractor and the new front end at the same time while you fit it up.
The narrow front end -single or dual - can be dangerous with a loader. You should only use a narrow bucket; and then with great caution. The only advantage to the narrow front is that the tractor is capable of turning very sharply. The wheel can be pivoted nearly 90 degrees. The wide front end is much more stable.

John, Sounds like a real fair price. Sounds like the seller has factored the narrow front into his price. Real bad combination, narrow front and loader!
I would reccomend getting a used J.D. wide front rather than aftermarket mainly because of the loader. They usually run about $1,000 from any tractor salvage and as Roger said changeover is a snap with the right supporting equip. It may be worth having a dealer do it for you. Two hours shop time max. Good luck.
By the way, if you end up with a single 16" front wheel and fork, I'll buy it from you. If it's a tricycle front,(dual wheel)I doubt anyone would want it. ....
