In addition to being cheaper to produce in Mexico, another reason for the change is for segment smashing power. Whereas the current TEN series (4210,4310,4410) have 28, 32, 35 gross HP respectively, the new TWENTY series mid-size (3320,3520,3720) will have 32.4, 37.7, and 43.7 gross HP. The 3520 and 3720 will have turbocharged 1.5L diesels. This will put JD at the top of the heap power wise and the motors will be cheaper to produce to boot.

I haven't pounded a sickle rivet in years, but I've still got my rivet tool like has been described. The greatest thing since sliced bread was when they came up with bolt on sections. On combine sickles you sometimes break a section, that used to be a real pain. Now the sections have a tapered hole for the nut that is also the same taper, probably about 45%. All you need is a 7/16ths. wrench a new section and about one minute's time. I remember watching my Dad sharpen sickles on the old tapered sickle stone, he would'nt go to the hay field without a sharp sickle. Frank.

Perhaps the dealer will demo one with a blade attch. if that is your biggest demand for power and size needed?
It seems it would depend on the gravel. Is it fine and loose
or hard packed with good size rocks? Have them prove it,or rent one similar and try it. IMHO it would be money well spent. Lots of promises in the showroom.

A jumped timing chain or gear could also give low compression, you can check that with a timing light.
Also double check your compression tester. One time
I replaced the valve core in my compression tester with
a core from a tire valve stem, compression would only
read 25psi (core spring too strong) I bought the correct
valve core from the Snap-On tool man...

You might be interested in the new tractors that will be avialable from Kubota in the spring. They give you the best of both of the X series tractors. They offer a 70 degree front steer turn and still four wheel drive. They offer a 35" inside turn with a 54" deck with their diesel engine. They also will take a blade or a blower.

If WI wasn't so far from VA I'd be on my way over with my new Bushmaster AR-15 Varminter/scope....I've been ithching to put it to work. A Ruger 10/22 will do, though. I get some here in my suburban creek bank with a Ruger MKII .22 pistol.

A few years ago on the farm we stumbled on a really good bait/poison. It was a pesticide called Furidan, long outlawed because it seemed to kill lots of birds, and anything else that came in physical contact with the purple granules. Varmints picked it up on their feet and fur, carried it back to the den where they dined on their last meal.... My Shibaura SD 2200 tractor was stolen then recovered. When I went to pick it up it would not start. I believe there is a problem with the coil warmer. I recall that when I used to move the key to the warm position that two lights came on, now only one comes on and it won't start. I found a wire loose on the "drivers side" of the tractor but when I tried to ground it there was no improvement. How can I verify how the wiring should be configured. Also the ignition was changed out so it could be a problem there.

I'm not one hundred percent sure of the difference between the two. The JD dealer actually tried to talk us into the 2210 because it would do more. The only reason we went with the 595 was because it did not have a ROPs. We wanted something we could get underneath fruit trees with and couldn't if it had a ROPs.<br>
We did get the 3pt hitch but not the rear PTO (another $750). We cut a lot of grass and a lot of it is on sloping ground. So far we are extactic with the 595.<br>
If the 2210 would have had a folding ROPs, then it might have been a different story. We were told they weren't available for the 2210.

DOES THE 970 HAVE A SEAT SAFTEY SWITCH? I WOULD JUMP THE SAFTEY SWITCH AND SEE IF THE PROBLEM QUITS. ALSO IF YOU JUMP THE SAFETY SWITCH WITH A REAL SMALL AMPERAGE FUSE AND IF THE SWITCH EVER OPEN IT WILL BLOW THE FUSE BECAUSE THE POWER TRIED TO FLOW THRU THE FUSE AND IT WILL BLOW BECAUSE THE AMPRAGE IS HIGHER THEN THE RATING OF THE FUSE.

In all seriousness, if the loader lift, on these two tractors, is the deciding factor, keep what you have.

One more question for Hank! When will you be trading? :)

For the most part weights front or rear sell for about a dollar a lb on the market. Kubotas are not over priced as far as the industry. There are other make tractor suitcase weights that may also work on your tractor. We have used the old IH weights before.

Mike, that 'skidding arch' is just parts of a PHD. If you have one do the smae thing.

As for log-splitters, I don't think I could rember all the different ones I have to make over the years, every shape size & style you could imagine. Presently I am making one for myself that will not just split the log, put cut the block off the log and split it all in one operation, no saw required.

Plans for a splitter are NOT required, it is mostly just hobbling together what you can find (scrounge?) so one part change would ripple all the way through the process and create lots more changes.

Basically you need a few feet of I-beam, about 6"w. x 8-12"h., a cylinder, about 4"-6" diameter with a stout piston rod, a valve, some hoses, a sliding push plate, a splitting head, a welder and an afternoon in the shop.

Derk: Art's right, there are hundreds of loaders like that still "In the Grove" around here. Usually it's hard to find a buyer especially with a trip bucket and no cylinders. I did manage to sell one a few years ago but it was in real good shape with good cylinders, I don't remember what I got for it, but it wasn't much. Don't mean to rain on your parade, but that's just kinda how it is. Frank.

I've got several that were sold this spring coming in for snowblowers. I'll do some playing with those and see how they feel. On those out front on a hill there is a small hesitation that I didn't feel on the level. I would highly stress to check your brake linkages and be sure that they are returning to neutral or releasing. Hydro's brakes don't get used to much and we have seen them set up on many tractors of all makes. The small amount of drag that they might give with a tight linkage would be easily overcome in low range but not high.
