Since I took the header out of the door of my shed and put in an 8' door I haven't had to fold the ROPs down at all. Before this I used to run around with it folded all the time if I needed to use the tractor for only a short time.

I would suggest a taller door if it's possible. If the door is on the gable end of the building you can easily make a bigger opening. If it's on the eave side there may be a big header above the door that's already as high as it can go, especially with 8' walls.

I use a spray lubricant made by Crown called "Rust Inhibitor"-#6007. Says it is fortified with lanolin. This or other brands are usually available in an auto parts store, tractor dealer or TSC.

Spray it on real heavy such that it has kinda a white film build-up. If it is going to be outside and snow makes contact you may want to go with something even more drastic like cosmoline. You can get that stuff from industrial lubricant supply companies. That stuff dries with a hard shell over the top of a shaft and has a layer of oil between. Nothing gets through that stuff!!

Your question might get more attention if you started a new topic Tom. But just on the off-chance, do any of the other electrical devices work? It might simply be the system fuse.

There are multiple reasons why you don't want to use a big flatbed truck to haul your tractor unless it fits your specific needs.
1. A flatbed truck is much higher than a trailer. Usually you need a permanent ramp at points "A" & "B" to load or unload. Sometimes backing into a shallow ditch works and then use ramps. The angle is too steep to try to use foldable ramps.
2. A flatbed truck with as much weight hauling capacity as a double or triple axle trailer is more like a 450/550 or 4500 or 5500 series truck. This means lots of diesel and expensive repair costs.
3. Depending on the state that you live in, the motor vehicle/secretary of state usually makes you have a CDL to drive dualies. Some states is starts with 350/3500 other with 450/4500.
4. Unless you are a farmer, license plates are very expensive for big flatbeds in most states.
5. For only about $3,200.00, I got a new triple axle flatbed trailer than can haul about 10,000 lbs. I can hook it up when it is needed.
6. For only another $3,500.00, I also got a new tandem axle dump trailer than can haul about 10,000 lbs. I can hook it up when it is needed.
7. Many times, both types of trailers are needed. Granted with a flatbed truck you can haul the dump trailer behind. I usually can get a friend to follow with his pickup.

I agree with Chief,. the 5000 series is probley one of the smallest unit's you would want to go with for doing your hay work. I have one of the price buster 5000 series models, The 5205, and can say it's a very strong machine. I'm very pleased with it! good luck with your choice.

Hydro's don't make clanking noises! You do have problems! Will it do it every time? Can you relate to a certain shaft speed with any of these sounds? Are they more prevelent in one area? Was the hydro petal fully depressed at an idle?

I just could'nt stand it any longer, so I had to speak my piece again on the Deere 4310/4410 tractors. I got one of each, both with 12/12 E/power reversers. I guess it's to each his own, but I've had years of experience with hydro drive tractors, combines, etc. For 99% of all jobs especially shuttle work you could'nt give me a hydro over the 12/12 reverser on a compact. They've both been great little tractors, I had a 4300 Deere prior to these two and it also was a 12/12 shuttle, I just got so used to it that I don't want anything else. I do have problems with my left knee, but with the 12/12 there's no need to ever touch the clutch pedal on a ten series. Well that's enough from me on that, I'll keep quite from now on about the hydro/gear thing, everybody's heard it by now. Frank.

Thanks av And I do hear both of you on the tight fit. Was a little concerened myself but did need a trailer pretty fast. For hauling the tc40, that would be only if I was to need any work on it so its not going to be that bad. the few times I will use it for moving the tractor I will need to plan out my trips and be a bit careful. I will be hauling my 9n ford soon (before the snow fly's) so I will get a taste (on a smaller tractor) on how it will handle.

I have NH TC33D with the extendable lower arms---it (was) a hassle. I'm a contractor with 5 implements that I need to change-out on a job. I was wasting about an hour each day switching implements the old way. My remedy: I designed and built 5 dedicated "quick attach plates" similar to a quick-attach for a skid steer loader, which are permanently welded to the tool. The mating quick-attach carrying/mounting plate is mounted to the 3pt hitch on the tractor. A custom hydraulic top link complements the system. To pick-up-and-go all I do is lower the hitch, tilt the top link backward, line up the tractor and back up. Then, raise the hitch while tilting the top link forward, and from the seat throw two DeStaco over-center latches. The mounting plate has an opening for those tools with PTO shafts. Works great, saves time and aggravation. Have about $1000 spread over 5 pieces (brushhog, power rake, box scraper, power angle landscape rake, combination boom pole with trailer hitch).

Many people find it easier to clean the hydrolic screen if you remove the wheel.

I'm not sure I found the hydraulic screen.
Is it at the bottom rear left corner of the transmission?
Is the suction tube it goes in, the metal tube that runs up the left side of the back end of the transmission?
Does the screen take a pretty large # 26 metric wrench to remove?

Maybe it is a given, but what about turning the blade around and pushing in reverse to prevent the tires from packing down the snow? It would take a few trials to get the right angle-of-attack, and possibly some added weight to the blade depending on the type of snow.

For preventing damage such as scratches in the pavement, consider using a flexible cutting edge such as natural rubber (from an old conveyor belt, or an out-stretched car tire tread) or the more durable "cast urethane" which is used on severe-duty snow plows. A 7' piece of urethane is pricey--$300 plus. You can use the existing cutting edge and longer bolts to secure the rubber cutting edge.
