just a thought, I have almost settled on a pronovost p860, when checking around normand makes a blower model n86-280 with the same specs as pronovost,and equip. the same, and also $500 -$600 cheaper in price.but I do not know if the fan blades are bent like the pronovost and if it works as good as the pronovost.does anybody have a normand that can comment on these blowers. thanks

Drive both and your body will tell you which to get. People around here will debate gear/hydro untill the cows come home. It is all about personal preferance.

Primary issue, even over gear/hydro issue, is to be happy with the dealer. A bad dealer will ruin a good deal emediately.

I'd have to say anything in the 20 to 28 HP range would fit your needs. If you are thinking Jinma the price difference between a 20 and 28 HP is real small so I would go for the 28 HP(284). I have a 224 and it fits my needs fine but thats what was avail at the time.. I have the Koyker FEL so I maybe am biased favoring toward Koyker.I've heard the china FEL is a little less fine control of my Koyker but I do lean toward the Koyker. The Back hoe I do not have but most I've spoke to prefer the Guillin or go for the better Woods, Kelly etc. I can't make valid suggestions on the hoe. There might be a dealer nearer you and I know I am not trying to slight any other dealer but there are 2 that I know of that have a solid reputation from previous buyers. Here are their links. Make some inquiries and see what you can do. I dealt with Coastal(which I recommend) but Bolton also has a solid rep with many satisfied customers. Do your homework and good luck.

Murf is correct, the concept is called "super cooling." This is a huge problem in the older Dodge/Cummins trucks in the cold weather. An idling motor will cool to the point where it is eventually below the outside ambient tempreture (30 min). On a Cummins, you must have at least 1200 rpm to put enough fuel in to keep the motor at the same temp.

Long story short, in warmer temps (40+ deg f.) this wont be a problem. Colder temps would require a bit of throttle to keep the temp up. Thats also why idling a Diesel in cold weather will not warm it, a small amount of throttle is needed.

There is another way. Do you have access to two tractors and have a little time on your hands? You can make a dirt box which is to boxes back to back. It digs in both directions. You attach a long cable to each end. One tractor pulls it one way, the second tractor the other. If you make a yoke over the front of the bucket at each face and attach a plate with holes the cable can attach in adjustable positions to find the best dig point. Attaching at the front will pull the tip down for digging. Going back and forth digging in both directions and moving slightly at an angle each time will get you around the pond. It may take some practice but you will get it done.

That does not sound bad, what dealer is that. I think you should be careful on the Tax issue old Gov McGreedy may try and get those dollars before he waddles out of office ;>). My understanding is if you finance it you will have lien filed in the county where you live. If you get caught you owe the tax plus a penalty!!!

I did use my credit card through PayPal. The $1.50 was charged to my card account for the special security code before PayPal would accept it for payment to you. The code appeared in my snail-mail billing, so I was delayed in renewing my membership. PayPal offered no 'free' options in using my card.

I employ Mexicans also. One of them is Chieppo. Everyday at lunch time he sitts with the Greenca's & watches them eat lunch. When they are threw, He eats any scraps left over like pizza crust etc. He doesn't like to spend money. He is paid the same rate as some of the white men. He western unions 85% of his income to Mexico.

I don't know about the Salsco line in particular, but I do have a lot of experience with chippers, big & small, PTO or self-powered.

As a general word of advice, take the manufacturers HP requirements with a grain of salt, the spec.'s usually says something like "MINIMUM Required PTO HP" that is not to say that it won't run on that amount of power, but it sure won't want to do MAXIMUM work on MINIMUM power.

I had a look at their website, when I got to the part about a 6" chipper and they say all you need is 25hp I had seen enough. My little chipper at home (see my pic. # 12), is a 4" capacity PTO-powered, manual feed model, which is rated by the manufacturer to run on as little as 15hp, but they also say that to chip 4" material you need a minimum of 35hp. I think that is still a little light, my Kubota is rated at about 40 PTO hp and it's still working pretty good on bigger stuff. I have run a 6" chipper on a 35 PTO hp machine, I would be nervous of burning out the PTO clutch doing anything bigger than about 3" in it.

The latest scam now I'm told is that the crooks have started companies that sound, or appear to be, escrow agents.

The way the scam works is they put up a product for a 'too good to be true' price, then tell the mark that they are as honest as the day is long and to prove it they say to send your money to this escrow company and when you have, and are completely satisfied with the product, call the escrow company and have the money released.

According to a friend in law enforcement a good-sized business here got taken for a LOT of money this way, they thought they were buying production machinery from a bankruptcy, in fact the scammer had taken pictures during a tour of the facility and the company was just under Chapter 11 protection, not bankrupt. The scammers had established a company name so close to the name of a genuine escrow agent that they din't catch the mistake till it was too late.

I'm told the simplest way to ensure you're not getting taken is to say you are driving to the seller to see it, pay for it, and pick it up. If it's a put-on, the seller will disappear faster than you could believe.

I've bought stuff off e-Bay that way, an honest seller will gladly meet you in the parking lot of Wally World or some such place.

About 2 months ago same happened to me with the 4310. Slight decline to left, raised bucket with dirt and I started going over. I thought it was too late - I dropped the bucket and fortunately recovered. I might have had the york rake on - not the backhoe as usual. But I think a lot had to do with raising that bucket up high. I think I forget how much the bucket shifts the center of gravity as it is raised up high when the ground is not perfectly level.

See my pics no.s 2 and 4 for how I mounted the SCV. I picked the loader tower because it made the PB circuit easy to plumb from the FEL valve. I dont have a picture of the bracket for the remote plugs, but it bolts to the rear axle housing flange on the right side. Holes in the flange are pre-drilled.

There is an excellent diagram of a Power Beyond Circuit on the Prince Hydraulics website. Go to the SCV valves, you will find typical PB circuit diagrams.

If I did it over, I would mount the SCV higher on the loader tower. I kept it low to make use of the weep hole in the tower without welding to the tower. The extension handle was easy to fabricate, but having the valves higher would be more convenient. The lower control handle I operate with my right foot. Let me know if you need any more infor on the PB circuit. It's pretty straight forward.

I just finished a bush hogging job for a neighbor. 13 acres not mowed for 2-5 years. Around a pond, creek, house, barn, steep hills. I used a bushog SQ84, 7 footer, for 25-45 HP tractors. Wouldn't want any wider but 2wd really limited me. Some places I just couldn't do wihtout 4x4. A lighter 4x4 would have been great. Hydrostatic would have made the job much easier.

New at this first time buyer needs advice

try taking the steering shaft apart. Mine did the same thing, and it was dirt in the bushing where it went through the instrument panel. I took the shaft out of the box, cleaned it and the bushing and greased it.

New Holland pay a flat rate for most repairs regardless of hour much time it actually does take. How they figure this time is by having there engineers come up with the most common problems and do a walk through of the repair 3 to 6 times some times more. Then they take the best time and that is what they pay. If you tear down and rebuild a tractor that many times in a row you are going to get pretty quick at it. Where as most dealers MIGHT run across that problem once a year.
