harvey - this sounds interesting. Couple of questions - how tall should the tripod be & were do you position it exactly? second question is how do you use the weights? you siad you use rail road rails...were do you place them? DO you think it would be possible for you make a drawing of this & post it?

Beagle; That would be a lot of gate openings a bucket at a time, so now I better understand your need for a trailer. I don't know how popular flare box wagons were for farm use back quite a few years ago in your aeria, but around here they're just not used anymore so you usually can find them on an estate farm auction that will bring 50 to 100 dollars for a decent wagon, hoist, box and all. I've bought several then thrown the box away and use them for lumber storage I've got three or four of them around with good hydraulic hoists on them. Just cut the box down to where you can reach over the side easily with the loader and you still probably could haul a yard and a half or so. Just another thought. Frank.

as far as the subsurface and surface for a pole
building, i would suggest going ten feet each side
of the planned size of the building. If your building
is to be 40by60 feet, I would make a surface 50by70
and use pit run gravel. I am in a low area, so I built mine
up 2ft. I did this in stages to let the rain settle the
gravel. You didnt mention concrete, and unless you have
a specific need for it, why pour in concrete-it only
increases the cost. I can get 18 yard loads of a nice
pit run (which is actually what is used by our county
on the gravel roads)for $82.00 per load if i contract for at least 25 loads. I wouldnt strip anything. You
want your building high and dry. Water goes thru gravel
much easier than thru concrete. If your land is level
I would use 1 foot of build up, placed in two stages.
Use a bunch of 3 or 4 inch line levels and string to
mark height as you go. This is not brain surgury.
I am not sure how big your tractor is but I built 3
all wood pole buildings (except the roof-metal) and
used my B2400 Kubota and the fel and rear blade to
do all of this. My buildings are all 30by50, because
we cut all the lumber at my neighbors small sawmill and
didnt feel comfortable handling larger trusses. I built
these for less than $5000.00 per, but this was all lumber
i had previosly cut from my own trees-mostly spruce and
balsam. I wired it myself-also not brain surgury.

I just finished my experiment - a tool box made out of a piece of 5" square PVC fence post. I painted it Kubota Orange and bolted it to the right-hand-side loader support. Check out my pictures #'s 2 and 3.

The Ls 160 bucket is larger than the factory 16la bucket. But you may have a relief valve problem some of them are set a bit too low. It will only take your dealer about 10mins to diog. and fix it if it is the problem.

The first upgrade I made was to get the rear body panel piece from the 2910, so I could mount the SMV symbol to the body panel. It also has a hook for the top link, so you can get rid of that hook that comes with the 7800. Dressed up the tractor nicely too.

Maybe a front snow thrower and rear PTO spreader? I guess its nice to have even if you dont have all the attachments at the same time to use that option (like me)

Hi - I'll take a crack at trying to answer this. I own several older Bolens Iseki diesels with snowblowers, so I'll look to some of the other members to chime in how things are on the more well known brands.

I think the answer to your question boils down to the RPMs. Most Front PTOs are rated for 2000 RPM, while rear PTOs are 540 or 1000. When a tractor manufacturer designs and develops a front or rear mounted snowblower, this is taken into account. I have 3 different snowblower models for my tractor. Two are front mount only and one can be either front mounted or rear mounted with the use of different mount kits depending on which.

If you look at the blower design that can be either front or rear mounted, you will get your answer. For rear mounting, the mount kit is very simple: a couple of brackets to hook up to the rear links and a PTO drive shaft and that is it, because the blower gearbox is set up to operate at 1000 RPM.

Now if you look at the front mount kit, it involves a special hitch and a whole reduction box including sprockets and a chain to slow the rated 2000 RPM Front PTO down to the designed 1000 RPM operating speed of the blower unit gearbox that is designed to run off a 1000 RPM rear PTO.

The other two front mount snowblowers I have are front mount only and the gearboxes are designed to take the 2000 RPM Front PTO and gear it down to whatever speed they need within the gearbox.

I am speaking only of my models whose designs are some 20+ years old, so I don't know what is available nowadays with front or mid PTO options. I'm sure other more knowledegable members with chime in with what is available now.

Bill, look back at starting issues with the Cub. There has been other folks write in with a problem, and I believe it was Ted at Abbeywoods that told about a relay (?) that needed to be added or something like that. I have a 7234 and have had a similar problem but it hasn't been that big a deal for me yet. It has been talked about a few times on this forum. Let us know how it turns out.

I bought a used mid-80's Ford 1710 about 6 years ago. It fit the budget and would do the initial and on-going work just fine. I also expected to put less than 100 hours per years on it after initial projects. It doesn't have some newer features but it hasn't disappointed me. I'd just keep doing what you're doing but not get too caught up in the stats and capabilities. Owners fit themselves to their tractors and there aren't too many jobs that will stop one cold. They'll all do the work but some take longer than others. In going through the stats you're likely learning about tractors, which is what you want to do.

Tractor parts are expensive and a maintenance budget should be provided for any tractor. I'd add about a thousand to the asking price and call it the DPO budget (Dread Previous Owner--Roger's term from years ago). It's a bit of a crap shoot though. Depending on previous use and maintenance, big typical maintenance points are around 2,500 and 5,000 hours, although some clutches become suspect around 1,500. For your information, you might price a clutch job. The crap shoot is that the previous usage and maintenance seldom is known very well.

make sure your hour meter is dispayed on your instrument panel then press both buttons at the same time & hold them down for 5 seconds. that will turn the service light off.

Is the loader also working the same way? I don't have a 224 parts book, but if it is like the E324, there isn't a pickup screen, just a filter by the hydraulic pump.

The YM2210 is the powershift version of the YM2000, which is th Japanese version of the YM240. Opposite where the suction line fastens to the transmission housing is a plate . Remove it & pull out the filter.

Anybody know much about the new 448 hoe for the 4500 JD. My dealer told me he can't get the bracket for the 48 anymore. Price is slightly higher but if it is really a better built hoe I have no problem. Also, I need power beyond (?) for the hoe...how involved is it to install and how costly? Thanks!
