Does anyone know where I can get the best deal on a hydraulic pump for a steiner 420.

Here in southeastern Michigan we don't have shale, but we do have a lot of limestone which has to be excavated with explosives. In the winter we get frost from 4" to 18" thick---we use what are called "frost rippers" which is just a crescent-shaped shank about 24" long with a replaceable tooth. Some take the place of the bucket and some clamp to the bucket's cutting edge. You could probably make one out of 1" plate and weld a tooth on it. There are different types of teeth too---try ones that are split in the middle and look like a "Y"---they tend to be thinner and sharper to split apart/shatter things.

I'm a Deere fan and would recommend the 2210 for a variety of reasons. However, my gut instinct doesn't give the 2210 any stability advantage on hills over the BX. Maybe more to this story. Maybe a dealer issue, too. Regardless, if stability is the problem and mowing is the primary chore, a Steiner, Ventrac or Power-trac sounds like an even better choice than a SCUT. You can get all kinds of great implements for those articulated tractors for most estate work. Pete

Hi, mykeln. When I had my 2210, I thought the 49" bucket was the right choice. It covered my wheel stance width. I did quite a bit of digging and moving rock, so it was the right size, The advantages of the 53" are the ability to work closer to building and objects plus, of course, increased volume in the bucket. Recommended if you are going to move lots of lighter materials or soil. I agree 100% on the recommendation to get the larger deck unles it won't fit between something on your property. The ability to trim closer to trees, fences etc., make the extra $ worth it. Not to mention the faster cut of larger areas. Pete

I found another link that answers both my question and yours. While good for lawn/turf grasses in that they are toxic to organisms that can damage a lawn, endophytes can also be toxic to livestock.

The answer to my question: "A plant does not become infected from its neighbours. Therefore, a stand of a non-infected variety will remain non-infected. If it is over-seeded with an infected variety, only the new plants will be infected."

I have Deere 1020 or JD300 (industrial version) I would like to sale. 65-66 model gas,not 3 point, rear 540 pto and mid pto with side mower. Front tires are truck type and rear are o.k. tread. Nothing special about the tractor except it works o.k. I have had it about 12 years and use it for triming only about 5 hours per month. I would like $4500.00 but would be open to offers. I have been looking at new JD2210 and Massey GC2300 - both have the same sizes - 18x8.5-10 fr & 26x12-12 rr.
The JD2210 is available with turfs or R4's
The Massey is available with turfs or R1's.
R1's & R4's must both be available in these sizes. From what I have seen people post here, the R1's have better traction in wet/mud conditions, & the R4's are stiffer/tougher, but less traction in slippery conditions.

It's my opinion that r-4's will give you more bit in "loose" conditions. Mud, slush, wet ground etc. Turfs would probably outpull the r-4's on 1ce becasue you'd actually have more "tire on the ground". Like noted above your tires are actually working on ground that was already cleared. I probably wouldn't let the snow conditions make the call on the tire but the mowing conditions. If you plan on having your tractor on lawn all the time go with the turf. If you do some trail, loader, and lawn combo work I'd say go with the r-4's. Just my opinion and your mileage may vary!!

I'd look around for a used dump trailer with lots more capacity to move that much dirt that can also be used on the road. You can buy a new, no frills tandem axle 7000# trailer for about $3,000.00. Mine is a Haul'n brand that is 10000#. (E-Z dumper is another brand) Suggest looking in the Michigan Auto/RV trader paper. You may find other uses for it and keep it or resell a used unit for what you paid for it.

Sounds like a good deal, but check out the financing options being offered right now on new equipment before you pull the trigger. Could make a difference.
