It might be good to check what connectors attach to the JD PB kits. I seem to recall that some of them are specifically for their hoes, and their hoes don't use common quick-connects.

I didn't see any control valve assemblies in the kit pics but then I didn't look too closely. A one of two spool valve would be needed but most any after market PB valve that's rated for flow about the same as the tractor pump would work and hoses with the right connectors could be made.

I think that many people just mount a valve on the fender splice it into the loader's PB line and 't' the Tank line into the loader's tank line. I believe that works if the valve will be mounted permanently and probably is less expensive than the kits. The kits however are better if an implement is going to be removed along with its control valve. They also tend to use lower loss and more secure fittings than quick-connectors and some kits don't require use of a short hose to connect the PB line back together when an implement isn't mounted.

The Owner is getting the serial# for me. How do you look up the going prices? Since I posted this I discovered Machinerylink.com Is that where you get your info. Do you have another resource you could let me know about?

I went to auction yesterday and watched two MF 231's sell.

The first was a brand new looking one with 200 hours on it. The paint looked showroom. It sold for $8,000. The other had around 1300 hours and a bucket loader and was in good shape, it sold for $8,000 also.
I saw MF135's and 245's sell also, all for less money.

I still have my eye on the MF231 in the original post, Mainly because I know the history on the machine and it is basicaly new (265 hours) I will let you know when I get the serial#

Banging things around isn't great for hoe or tractor. Full buckets on the end of long poles have a lot of inertia and it's pretty easy to slam them into their stops.

You'll likely get the hang of feathering the valves to control the speed of some operations after a bit of experience. When I first started I ran the rpm a bit low to slow down the hoe speed but it didn't take very long before I wanted it at pro rpm.

I owned a Hardware store (True Value, among other things Plumbing and Electric)in Alaska at one time not too long ago. The chains moved in and a customer would say to me Hey Dean XYZ has this for $xx.98. My response would be after I showed him/her how to use it and etc. "Well go get the GD thing there! He would invariably say but they are all out now or something similar.. As a tired and worn out Hard Trade Store owner my next words were usually WHEN I don't have it(whatever) mine is $xx.98 also!! Now get the #### out of here!

My point is support the guy who will support you and remember a good relationship will pay off quicker than you imagine!!!

BTW I never lost a GOOD customer!!!

Unless the previous owner can show you proof of the maintenance or give you a good confidence the machine was well taken care of. I would suggest starting off with replacing all the fluids and filters to establish a good maintenance baseline. Going over the machine and greasing all of the zirk fittings would be a good idea as well.

Scientic American had a great article on hybrids and various alternative fuel economies (e.g. hydrogen) in the May issue. I highly recommend the article.

It got me into a long Email discussion with a buddy on diesel vs gasoline, to the point I had to pull out my old thermo text book to explain efficiency differences between diesels and Otto cycle (gas) engines.

The current crop of hybrid cars are gasoline because Honda and Toyota were trying to deal with California emissions requirements and get the ridiculous Zero Emission Vehicle requirements quashed (ZEV is dumb, Low EV is realistic). Since Americans don't like diesels and fuel availabilty is iffy in places they went with gas. If you really want make the most efficient car it would be a diesel-electric hybrid.

Those of you waiting for the hydrogen economy to save us will have a very long wait. Hydrogen is a secondary fuel, not a primary energy source, and as a fuel it is hard to handle and not very dense.

before purchasing my tiller- a Kutter King II,
I looked over the jd's and the only difference
i could see is the price was almost exactly
double for a jd I use mine in very rocky soil
and it has proven to be very durable
I got it at Fleet Farm when they went on sale
not sure what you plan to use it for, but I
think you would be pleased with a Kutter

I am not going to supply any ammo. If it is just the front seal then it will not be too expensive to repair. Sorry to say but a warranty is there for a reason. If you got at them nice about it you may get some help. If you go at them with a big attitude you can forget it then they will not lift a finger to help you. It goes to the golden rule.

Seals are a problem with every machine. Dirt and dust will destroy them. Any way good luck with your repair.

Art, I was wondering if that is the case. The price quoted for this unit is $10,850.00 plus tax. How much is a 3 year warrenty worth on a tractor.

Most standard buckets will do what you had happen. Heavy duty buckets will have more support across the top which does make it easy to weld hooks on. The right size pipe would fit under your level indicator and go across the top of your bucket and add the strength that you need to weld hooks on.

I have a 1460 and a BX2200 with 60" deck, both with factory mulch kits. They work great if I sharpen the blades once a year. The BX2200 will cut off 2" of grass (dry) with no clumping. One pass and the wife is happy and I'm done.

thanks, i thought it seemed right after looking at prices on the net and on ebay and other auctions. PLus they are going to give me $1500 trade in for my white 1850 lawn mower.iwent ahead and told them to write up the deal and i will take especially after driving it.. It is a very smooth running and riding tractor and the steering is so easy compared to other tractors ive driven.

No loader or attachments. The spring centering device is fine and the roll pin is still through the T shaped arm and the shaft that goes into the case. Is there any type of relief valve that could be stuck open ? When the 3 point worked and topped out, you could hear it load the engine, now the whole thing acts like the roll pin has fell out of the T shaped arm the actuating rod connects to.

I have noticed on the older machines that we have trade that glow plug use is almost always required. Mainly from what Art has stated do to lack of compression. It will not hurt to use them all the time it will save on the battery and started from excessive cranking. Even after a rebuild I know that until about 50 to 75 hour you have to glow plug all the time until the rings seat in to the cyl. walls.
