I've also wondered if there might be a problem with the shifting mechanism for the 4wd. If it where out of adjustment and was sliding the engagement gear too far or not far enough causing a misalignment with the corresponding gear or worse, rubbing against something else, I could see this noise. I hate to whine, but I can feel it in the pedals and steering wheel when it starts growling, and to me that is so unlike of John Deere stuff. The reason I'm asking you guys is that the dealer in my area has only sold two of these and when I told them about the noise, they said that they have never heard of this before-go figure. So they havn't been much help. There is another dealer in the area that is an AG dealer that actual works on tractors. I'll try them. Thanks guys, I'll keep you posted.

These two tractors are definitely not in the same class of tractors! The deere 4310 in the Kubota line would be with the L-series chassis. We can push the Kubota edge a bit but not that much. If you are just looking for mainly mowing and a little loader work and snow removal work chances are the smaller B-series chassis would work fine as it to can run a 72" deck. If you have a lot of grading to do or just heavier work then get into the L-series chassis the same size as the deere.

I have customers with more then ten acres with the BX's and doing fine. It isn't what I recommended but it was what they could afford. Ten acres is about my cap for the BX size for mowing, that doesn't mean that I would stop at the B7510-7610 either just because of the larger wheels as they are still limited to the 60" deck. That would mean going to the 7800-2910 size. Kubota's reliablity is the model in this industry not to say the others are not good.

Go easy when digging. Loaders aren't a poor man's dozer. Hit something with the bucket angled fully down and it's easy to break things. In float the bucket can dig in and jackknife the loader frame. Potential there for breaking things as well.

I don't know touchy enviro things are in your area. We installed a gray water pit and the rules here require it to be 3' above the high water table (and that's for gray water). The rules required us to raise the pit 3' above grade due to a high water table in the spring. It might be good to check regs in your area. Of course, if you ask you may get an answer you don't want.

Our pit had to be rated at 375 gpd for a health permit. It is 6x12x4' stone filled with a 3' chamber.

Thanks everyone for the response to my Hybrid Car question. Now you're getting me interested, I'm going to check out those listed by car and driver. I most likely won't buy anything right now, but as in all products where competition is high the products will get better. Not "if" but likely "when" a new discovery in the technology of the hybrids is found and perfected to make them less expensive, such as cheaper, lighter, more efficent batteries, etc.. Just imagine the oil savings possible if even a third of the cars on the road today could have their mileage improved by ten mpg. Someone brought up the subject of using idle farmland to produce soy diesel. Not a lot of those acres are really capable of growing soybeans without tremendous soil losses due to erosion, etc.. Most of that land is best suited to being in grass, which may hold promise as a bio mass energy producer to perhaps replace natural gas in powerplants, who knows? We do need to get real serious about our future energy needs. I do remember my early years without electricity or a telephone, we got along just fine, but I really don't want to go back to the "Good Ole Days" as folks call them, the "Good New Days" are now, lets try to keep them. The rear tire size on a BX1500 is 24X12X12. I belive the rim is 10" wide to accommodate 12" wide tires.

Beagle, You've got a bunch of work ahead of you. The least expensive method would be two or three overweight brother in laws with spades and shovels while you run the tractor, the snacks and refreshments might get a bit out of hand tho so maybe that's not a good idea. In the real world why not rent a backhoe for a day and do it safely. Seems like every summer I hear of someone being badly hurt or killed trying to pull a stump, fence post, push a tree over, etc.. Early this spring we lost a good young man in our neighborhood. He cut a tree and it would'nt tip over so took his "H" Farmall with the loader to push it over, you know the rest, it was a shocking loss for our community. So how ever you get it done do it with safety in mind, we're kind of a little community here on Tractor Point and we don't want to lose one of our best. Frank.

The L2550 was made from the late 80s to the early 90s, and the Glide Shift tranny (GST) was offered, but rare. Your description is of the DT (Dual Traction) gear tranny, and unfortunately there are no synchonizers. A full stop and clutch activation is required for each shift including fwd-to-reverse. You have 8 fwd gear ratios and 7 reverse ratios, as 8th speed in reverse is locked out.

Kubota also makes other gear trannies, also called "DT", incuding one that uses a stick shift on the tranny itself, and the new Fully Synchonized Tranny (FST).

I loved my old L2550DT, but those newer trannies (GST and HST) are to die for.

With the brake pedals located above the hydro pedal you can pretty much write off the ability to use turning brakes. They're not used often but when they list it as a feature it should be usable. This is one problem an electric pto clutch solves nicely.

I apologize for not submitting a reply for so long. Thanks for keeping up this thread--I have been reading all your responses. The truth is, I did not buy either tractor and have learned a lot since I first posted my message. I think I need more power at the PTO to operate at least a 5 ft. rotary. But, I did decide to settle on the John Deere for ergonomics mainly and because I just like green better than orange. I'm now looking at either a 4310 or a 790 JD.

I bought into the B7800 because I just couldn't see paying the extra bucks for an upgrade seat, different location for the cruise control (that I don't believe operates any differently), a tilt seat. The only upgrade I liked was the three point hitch upgrade, but I couldn't see paying for the other goodies. Am I missing something? Otherwise the B7800 is the exact same tractor.

Art, sorry for the delay in getting back to your post. i have been out of town on business. To answer your question I will be using the same size bush hog on both units. Also I will be skidding some trees along with loader work moving rocks in clay soil.
