I am looking into purchasing a tractor (by the sounds of it I should do it by 9/1 since the 3 yr 0% financing expires then) I am looking seriously at the 4 tractors listed . Here is my take so far. I am moving into a new home on 10 ac, need to mow, move snow and then landscape minor hobby farming, general playing around. Would like a FEL, 60 in Mower, blower and tiller to start<br>

BX 2300 v BX2230- WHat is the difference here. I looked at the spec sheets and other than a bigger and heavier frame, I see no difference in the HP or hysdrolics, etc. These seem to be less exp than the JD's but the loader does not seem quite as capable. How do Kubotas in general hold up over time. <br>

JD 2210- I have a small brand bias here but am concerned about the limited CAT 1 3 pt hitch. Will it be able to "grow with me" over time. Cost v Kabota. <br>

JD 4110- This is really probably more tractor than I need but it has the regular CAT 1 3PH and has the 3 yr financing avail. <br>

I know I'm asking for lots of info and I appreciate all your help. I'm posting this on both the Kabota and JD forums for varied, brand bias'd opinions :) <br>

Hybrids make good around town cars. The inefficiency of the gas is highest when they accelerate from stop, and this is where the high torque electric takes over. I don't believe they are much if any more efficient on the road at speed.

Brokenarrow: I also have just read your post and am sorry to hear about your loss. Please accept my condolences! It is a very difficult time for you and your family. The pain of your loss will ease with time. Just remember the good times that you had with him. We are only here on earth for a short time and have to accept it.

The important thing to remember is the close relationship that you had with him. Make absolutely sure that you have this with your children! In his passing, you now have a great responsibility as the patriarch of your family. I'm sure he taught you well!

There-in lies a dilemma. If you run a whole house system you have to factor in laundry, bathing and other high volume uses.

If I were building a house from scratch I would run two different systems, based on usage. You still might be able to do that if your house is one level and has a crawl space.

My drinking water RO system reduces a soft water, 950 PPM dissolved solid feed to 14 PPM. That is nearly perfectly pure water.... which is good... but it requires plastic piping so that it won't leach minerals out of metal pipes.

I have never studied the issue of arsenic absorption through the skin, so I can't comment on the bathing issue. It is a very large molecule compared to what I know the skin can absorb, so the uptake would be limited at worst. Is the some information you have on this issue? It would be interesting to read.

Back to the whole house concept.... there are two ways to approach it. One is to design a system to meet the demand on a minute by minute basis.

The other way is to size the machine to meet the needs based on a 24 hour running time and keep a day or a day and a half of water in storage as a buffer.

Back when I did this stuff for a living, there was a spin off system called Ultra-filtration. It would do the heavy metals but pass more sodium and small molecular weight stuff. If they are still making such systems it could be a less expensive option.

Your neck and back will thank you if you get the front blower. Limited reach of the FEL is not an issue with a blower which will throw 20 feet up. Also if you adjust the shoes for gravel untill freeze up there isn't a problem with throwing stones either.

BX for snow removal use your FEL or a blower

Get the bagger. Well worth the money for the leaf cleanup alone. You will get clumping no matter what blades you use if the grass is long enough. The vac system is strong and does a wonderful job.<br>

Someone please help. I cannot read japanese. I do not have an owners manual for my yanmar 1110D tractor, so I don't know how much or what kind of oil to put in my engine and transmission. God Bless anybody who knows and helps me with this information.

Thanks for the input. We had one board planed and found out that it was oak like I thought. The water marks did not go through but some warpage caused it to be planed quite a bit. Because of the 16' lengths, he is planning to use it for custom baseboard trim. He can get 2 to 3 pieces per board depending if it is 10" or 12" wide.

On this 1" thick variety of material, I've decided sell it for $1.50 per board foot. If we go to thicker materials, I'm going to raise the price. Likewise, ash may sell slightly higher.

I live in a small town and my nearest dealer is less than 1/4 mile away. My tractor and farms are about 10 miles away. I have 2 other dealers within 10 miles. I get excellent service from all three.

I am in the prcess of adding on to a barn and renovating it for horses. At the site, I have a borrowed backhoe and a load of stone. Seeing those two things together it occured to me that maybe I should put a drain in the aisle of the barn. The floor is gravel, which I will be digging up to install the waterline. Once the water (and hopefully drain) is in, I will cover everything with either stonedust or sand; the better half is debating which she wants to use.<br>

If I just dig a hole and fill it with stone and put a grate of some sort of top, will this do anything, or do I need to have a pipe at the bottom of the hole that runs out of the barn?<br>

I've never done anything like this before, but am not afraid to try -- any suggestions on how to go about this project would be appreciated!<br>

If it's TX driven, a mower will slow down when the clutch is used. It's more of a problem for snow-blower chutes that will clog than for mowing. Virtually all newer TX driven PTO's have built-in over-running clutches. You hear stories about large mowers on some old Fords pushing the tractor forward even when the clutch is in. That doesn't happen on newer tractors.

lsheaffer who has posted here for years frequently says he can get manuals.

You will need an owner's manual. The I&T manuals may cover the tractor and should be good enough for these type questions but factory manuals are better. YOu'll also need to find a source for filters. TSC and NAPA stores sometimes have filter x-ref tables that cover many tractors.

The backwards key turn is likely the pre-heater. Some Yanmars use fuel for pre-heating from a plastic bottle. A few bottles aren't fed from the tank and can run dry.

If it's diesel then it should be repaired. The most likely source is a hydraulic fitting. There may be a loader valve near the front and some lift components near the rear. It's fairly common for hydraulic fittings to seep but it shouldn't happen if a good mechanic took time to do proper assemblies.

Fittings aren't too difficult to reseal--using liquid or tape sealer as directed. Over-tightening fittings often makes seepage worse instead of better.

John Deere is good. Is the dealer backing up the tractor with any kind of time warranty or something? Do you like how it handles? Well get it then- you might like it a whole lot more than your wife in a few years!

Jim, the big changes for designs of Kubota are announced in October. The prices have held since the introduction of the BX's which is a statement of Kubota in it self. The units seen there at best start coming in after the first of the year. I would find it hard to believe that they can hold out much longer without a price increase as they are lower then the other big brands are anyway. There price increases normally come in the spring but we do get updates from time to time.

I am going to buy a NH boomer this fall. A couple of questions. I will use it primarily for moving manure, grading and moving snow (up to 1-2 ft at a time). I am debating the 40 or 45 horsepower and don't know if I can justify the 2000 dollars extra for the 5 horses. Also, I am wondering if anyone has a tip-over concern with the supersteer.<br>

Wheel weights would be a good addition as grassgod stated and probably end the tipsy problem. If that doesn't then you had better try to widen the wheels out on the axle a bit to gain stability. Some hills were just not meant to be mowed!

Not that I advise running in four wheel drive if you don't need to but you can adjust the wind-up between front and rear with adjustments to the air pressure.
