As for the Yanmar deere is using, I believe there are several different sizes, and I know of many with well over 2000 hours that run as new. I have a 26HP yanmar in my Takeuchi track hoe with 2700 hours and it runs great, never a repair of any sort, not even a minor external part, nothing. Starts like a light switch switching on, no cranking just runs. Yanmars are my favorite and I have owned many brands. Yanmar is one of the most popular among sailboaters with a small inboard, they even make a diesel outboard motor.

harvey, thanks for the reply. I'll call a couple of the big wedling companies here in the State. Was hoping someone on this site could give me a ballpark so I could judge weather is was worth my time or not. I know notthing about welding, was told by a welder friend, to the right person it could be worth a couple hundred but then saw on a welding forum one sold on ebay for $70? I'm going to use mine to power a gravel screen, if I ever get it built:)

Tha is a good buy for sure. I purchased the exact same set up in 99' for $21,900. I did get loaded tires for that though, I'm not sure if you are.

To answer your question about the width being the same on the 3400 compared to the 3130, I will have to get back to you on that, I had a booklet that had all that info. I will look for it, I just hope my wife didnt throw it out!

Let's not forget that most diesel engines will run (quite nicely) on just strait vegetable oil. The refining process to generate Bio-Diesel requires quite a bit of energy (heat) and the addition of a refined methanol to create.

Machinery Link lists this year 955 as being worth $10,614 for the high premium value, $9,920 in good condition, and $8,960. $16,706 for the high retail lot price. Depending upon what extras come with the tractor and what condition it is in; the price could be lower or higher than these values. Don't expect to get retail value for it.

puppie - no clutch is need to shift. You can shift from foward to reverse with out the clutch & change speeds 1 - 4 without the clutch. The only time you will need to use the clutch is if you are scopping into a pile with the loader. Only because you will have alot of pressure on the tranny at that time. so as soon as the bucket is full, you press in the clutch, Shift that left column lever in to reverse, let out the clutch & go. That lever is called the shuttle shifter. The only other time you will need the clutch is for engaging the PTO & that goes for all tractor including hydro. You can do loader work with out the clutch but it isnt recommended in the manual. If you use the clutch it will preserve your tranny.

This is more of an unlikely scenario but it is possible that a faulty or leaking fuel injector could aggrevate or cause this symptom. If the injector leaks fuel into the combustion chamber; the leaked fuel could ignite prematurely and cause the symptoms you describe. The engine would smoke a good bit ususally if this is the case. If you suspect this; you will have to pull the injectors and have them bench tested for spray pattern, correct popping pressure, and leakage. This does not sound like the case since you mentioned that the engine exhaust cleans right up after it gets running.

I was hired to demolish a 40-year-old guntited pool in Michigan. I guess it depends on many factors such as climate, pool contractor, who digs the hole, etc. but the pool I worked on which was 35'x18' had walls as thick as 2 feet at the top in places (I think they over-dug or it caved in during digging), in general the walls were at aleast a foot thick but the bottom was 4-6" ---and there was rerod two and three layers thick every 8". (Used a New Holland LS180 with a hydraulic breaker driven down inside the pool---almost flipped it over backwards sliding backward into the 12' deep end)

vrenuguy - I used to have a simular tractor, the Jd 790. I found that having my rear tires foam filled made a huge difference. I started out like you with calcium. After a few flat tires & a major wet rusty mess from the calcium, I decided to try something different. With the foam filled, You can never get a flat ever again. I also believe that when that calcium is bouncing around inside that tire, it is working against you. I also recommend adding bolt on wheel wieghts. If you do these to things you will be amazed at the difference in center of gravity. My old machine felt very solid on steep grades no matter what position I was in.

What comes to mind is that it'd be good to do a compression test. Something like a broken ring could be the explanation and it might be unrelated to the oil change. A condition like that could cause more damage to an engine if it continues to be operated. The oil pressure was OK after the change I guess.

I am buying a new tractor Monday. What I am hearing is that Sept 1st prices and the 0% interest disapears so Im buying now! There are always uses for a tractor in the winter around the farm.
