Av8r - I disagree with you about the (pre) 2003 cummins being quiter then the 7.3 or 6.5. Infact, It is a well known fact that it is the loudest in it's class. Great motor for sure & Lyle Cummins is a genious but definitly not quiter then the 7.3 or 6.5.

New Holland no longer uses any Perkins engines. The LS160 and 170 as well as the TC 48 and 55 all use the same engine plus or minus the turbo. They are made by Shibaura.

I'm looking for good used rims or aftermarket rims for JD 855 Front Wheels. I also heard of someone suggested that it is better to use the 14" wheel instead of the 12". Please reply, thank you.

Had the same problem when I got mine....Keep the flip top hood down, and grab the sides of the front grill. pull toward you and up and it lifts of small 'studs' that hold it on. It comes off real easily AFTER the first time. I was afraid I would break something by pulling too hard the first time I did it, but it is made a bit better than that and it wont break that easily.

See my post above and buy the best grade avail. to you. Keep in mind it will scratch and turn white in the presence of standing water unless it is impregnated at the factory as in Bruce flooring!

I also have an old tractor like yours (see my pics) I have a tc40 mfd/ w/fel. Love it!!! More power than I could of ever imagined (see ditch digging project going on, in my pics. It may look like nothing but I was digging basically thru a 50/50 mix of heavy soil/clay and 50% 6" to 16" rocks. Was very impressed and there is NO comparison with the 8n.

The seals available today are far superior than those of back then. I would not be afraid to put in the new seal and never have to worry about it again.

I bought a used JD855, and it came with an unused, 'parts still wrapped and in original boxes' 47 inch snowblower for the front of Any 55 series or 670/770 (and others) JD tractors. I dont need it, having two different rear blades and a front bucket already. Any ideas on how to sell it? Any ideas what a new one costs?

Ed,

Sort of confused by your post stating 6gpm for the hydraulic system. My cut sheets and factory literature indicate 8.1gpm for the hydraulic system and 4.1 for the power steering. At any rate neither one is 6 gpm so I assume that what you saw was a mistake. As to loader and backhoe, I expecting recipt of a 360 DTC with 5140M loader and 4008 backhoe this weekend so would be able to better say how well they work, but do not believe you would find them lacking. I am abit leary of the slow cycle time for the loader, but it is not that critical for me.

My brother bought an extended warranty on a new 1987 Ford 4x4. The warranty worked exactly like you described. If he didn't use it, he would be refunded the $800.

He never used it but he also never took it back for 'any' reason. He got his money back at the end of the contract period.

I think it's the best extended warranty program around. Kinda like insurance except if you don't use it you get a full refund.

Just be careful and read the terms carefully. Like what happens if you use the factory warranty, will that count on the extended warranty as a use?
