I also have 2 John Deere 870.My 1995 have the problem you described. Put when used it seems to loosen up.
I had my older 1988 apart to replace the noisy throw out bearing. The clutch is the same as any orther clutch I have seen. Put the difference is the big spring washer they use. Side slide piece has very close talterance. I beleive the sides rust and bindu I hve a picture of that clutch posted picture 4

I ordered TC40DA from Tarheel around the end of may and took delivery of the tractor and midwest rotary mower around June 17th in California. There are mix feeling about ordering them from a dealer so far away. Overall, the deal went smoothly. Tarheel's price is good.

The driver unloading the tractor did drove the tractor into a bar in the tailer and hit the ROP despite my advice to remove the bar first. Thus created a big dent on the ROP. I reported it to Brandon but did not make a big deal out of it since I don't think has structural damage. I could just pain over it. Brandon did not offer any resolution either.
I did not get the manual for the tractor and mower. Brandon did mail them to me quickly.

My complain is that I did not receive the chain guard until August 13th. Many email exchange between Brandon in between. Brandon explained that Midwest had reorganization and no one is taking care of orders. The package arrived without packaging at all. Parts are poorly taped together and one of the steel bar is bend. There's no manual either. It looks like I need to drill mounting hols on the mower. I don't know what parts should be included either. The number of chains do not seems to match the number of chain holding holes on the frame. I asked Brandon to send another steel bar, manual and more chains. Brandon's reply was that he will take care of it after he sorts things out. He explains that Midwest believes those parts are durable enough that there's no need for any packaging. Granted that this is not a big problem since the chain guard does not cost that much compare to the tractor. However, now I feel really lucky that the delivery of the tractor went well. I'm not as comfortable as I was at the time of placing the order in repect to ordering it from a remote dealer. What if things go wrong. If it is so difficult and time consuming to resolve a simple problem, how would a more serious problem with the tractor could be taken cared of. However, I should give Brandon a chance to resolve this issue before making any conclusion. I just hope it won't drag on for another month due to Midwest's management problem. I had been mowing without chain guard for two months now. I certainly don't hope to kill someone with stones flying out of the mower. I would like to put on that chain guard as soon as possible.

Don't forget the 426 had spark plugs right down through the valve cover! I haven't looked under the hood of a new Hemi vehicle, but I don't suppose the new ones have that.

I have the 3/4 ton heavy duty with the Hemi. When I haul tractors on my trailer the truck averages10 to 12 MPG regular driving in the NH hills is aprox 15MPG. I also have a GMC 8.1 w/ alison and get at best 8-9 MPG just driving around. I thought about the cummings, but figured the 5K would buy a lot of gas and the noise would be much less. The cummings is a great engine but it is the loudest I've driven. Good luck.

I guess it's obvious that the tractor is off. I put the loader in float and then work the bucket both directions. Unless the lift in float relieving the bucket pressure can re-pressurize the lift hoses if the bucket isn't flat.

Hoses on implements definitely pressurize in the sun. One year it happened a lot when the tractor and implements were outside. A rag wrapped around the male couplers and pushing against a tire worked most times for the male couplers I have. A female coupler takes a soft punch and a hammer.

There are some things to think about when ballasting a tractor with a 3-point mounted implement or ballast box. That weight is directly on the rear axle housing, axle, and bearings when there isn't a load in the loader bucket. Rear wheel weights and filled tires do not induce this stress on the rear drive system when the loader is empty, but induce a couterbalance force through the axle and housing when the bucket is full. Rear wheel weights can be removed (as an implement or ballast box) when the couterweight isn't necessary.

It's strickly a matter of preference, the most important thing is to properly balance a tractor for safe operation. That usually means about 60% at the rear axle, and 40% at the front axle. There is a larger variation for 4wd tractors. Most operators manuals will describe proper ballasting.

I am considering buying a 18-25HP compact tractor with a FEL - want something only 48" wide. Would like a 48" rear snow blower also.<br>
Main use would be snow blowing/removal in town - hence 48" width for sidewalks etc.<br>
I have looked at: John Deere 2210, NewHolland TZ24DA, Massey Ferguson GC2300, Kubota BX2230<br>
Does anyone have any very good/bad experiences to tell about any brand?<br>
They all seem very similar - Kubota loader not rated as heavy

Ditto on everything said here so far. I have the 54" deck for my 2230 and it mows great. I choose not to mow with the FEL attached because of the weight on the front tires creating ruts in the lawn. It is so silly-easy to remove, so why not. You will love your BX.

AV8R, hope you have as much luck with the '01 as the 86...you mentioned before about the door handles...I have the same thing happening...and VW USA's response to me since I have 93K miles is pretty much "too bad"...(when I called about their design of the trunk latch...PLASTIC!)

I found lots of good info about mky 4710 and there were similar documents for many other models as well.

Looks like the Rental Kit for the 4710 is a little cheaper at about $260. (JD Site)

I have some good pics of my vac/bagger on my wedsite that maybe you could get some ideas from. Mine goes to a MMM, but maybe you could fab some type of nozzle on the front/middle/back of your tractor to attach the vac hose to? I don't know what you have for a tractor, but this is alot less than $23,000, wow.

The schematics are in the last section of the service manual. I paid $82 and change for the manual but I have always found it to be money well spent. I had the manual about 3 weeks before the tractor was finally delivered so knew quite a lot about the tractor when I was able to start using it.

Echo: Sorry to hear of your teething problems with the new toy (oops, truck). I can comment on the manual trans in that when mione was new, it was a bit challenging to shift some times too. A bit of break in and alot of self induced training seemed to solve the problems.

On my tranny (New Venture 4500 5-speed) first gear is a "Granny Low" gear and is not used most of the time, therefore it is not synchronised. Yours may be the same? Also going from Reverse to First, or first to second still requires me to let out the clutch in neutral then go to next gear (double clutch), more so when heavily loaded.

I love my diesel and have gotten so used to the boquet of her exhaust I had to take the wife along on a trip to find out that she (The truck, guys!) has a leaky exhaust. There will allways be a SMALL scent of diesel, but it should not be overpowering. Maybe try a muffler shop?

Thanks Jack. I called a dealership and they told me it was left-hand thread. A different dealership guy told me how to remove the pulley. I removed the whole unit from the deck and locked the shaft in a vice with two bolts through the key'ed pulley holder. A breaker bar and a thrown-out shoulder later had the bolt broke loose. It's all fixed and runs great.

Now I'm off to sell it once the new 4310 shows up.

I juse wanted to post a message thanking Ventrac for the support that they provide me during my ownership of my 4000. I must say that I have never owned something where the manufacturer was so interested in making sure I had a happy experience with my purchase like Ventrac has been!<br>

Thanks to all who helped out. I took your advice and cleaned all of the connections including the battery terminals, battery clamps, ground frame, and the solenoid. Just tried it and it turned right over!

I am thinking about buying a used E2004. Does anybody have any info on parts, such as availabilty, cross referencing to another tractor, parts manuals, etc. I did some research on the web and saw where parts availability for Hinomoto's could be an issue.

It could be chestnut. Whatever it is, it's probably worth much more than the current crop of air or kiln dried lumber. I would ID it and check with some of the woodworking sites on the net to get an idea of the value.
