So Murph, you never told me if the crown look like its too much? (at least I dont recall) It on my pics 1,2. I dont have a ditch all the way down this part of the drive yet. The slope from the hill allows it to run down to the small pond and out into my farm field. I will be ditching it just as soon as I make sure this is where all the new building will be. I am contemplating putting up one more so before I do work that will need to be re-done I figure I better think on it. Still trying to watch the natural run of water to decide the best spots for the 2-3 culverts that should go in.
On that thought you have any opinions on steel or plastic?

Ohm's Law for current is I = E/R. If voltage decreases and resistance is unchanged then current has to decrease. My point however was that resistance, or the more general term impedance, may not be fixed.

For example, in series wound DC motors the impedance changes with rpm and it is minimum at 0 rpm. That is why they can burn up due to low voltage if they never come up to speed.

I don't know anything about this brand -- I think it was recommended on this forum, but I was looking at a Jodale-Perry cab for my 2210. Priced out like $4417 ($3506 + options). Looked well built.

What is the best way to estimate tongue weight on a load? I too am guilty of using an undersized truck with my Silverado 1/2 ton having to pull a big load from time to time. I gather its just a "Kentucky windage" thing in figuring how much of then load is forward of center? Or is there a method to it? Thanks.

dklopfeinstien, Long as your staying with the big three, they all make good stuff, so I'll just repeat my old sermon of being comfortable with the dealership you've chosen, that's important. Now I guess I'll stray a bit and let my loyanty to the Green show thru a bit. I've got both a 4310 and a 4410 and could'nt imagine a compact being more comfortable to operate. I had a 4300 prior to the 4310, the 4310 had some definite improvments. I've allways been more content to buy the last of a series after the "Bugs" are worked out than the first of a new series that hasn't proven it's self yet. I've never heard of any brand reducing their prices on a new series compared to the old series. So my vote goes for buying the ten series now. Enjoy what ever you buy. Frank.

You have a sheared pin on the rod that goes across to the orther side loader arm. check the pins on both side of that rod. See if that your problem.

JFULLERS' I could'nt agree more on the hoe hoe paying for it's self. I've got a Deere #48 that's done lots and lots of work, in fact I ran it till dark last night. I've honestly never saw a #46, but if it's built like my #48, just keep it greased up good, treat it with respect so far as what it is capable of doing and I doubt either one of us will wear them out. Frank.

I recently acquired a PTO chipper with a CAT 1 3PH connection. Only problem is I need to buy new knives for it and I have not been able to locate the manufacturer. Anyone heard of a "Machete"? The label also says "by Jollyhoe" and lists the manufacturer as Pacific Mach. Mfg. of Portland, OR. The unit has 4x6 throat, double belt drive, and seems to weigh only about 250lb. There are 2 knives, 8" long, 3/8" thick. If I could find knives with 3/8" mounting holes 2.25" apart, that would work, too. I could cut them down to 8" if necessary.

Not sure what they cost new but I've seen used ones for more than $15k (usually with 80-110 hp diesel engines).

How about a 3430 with the factory cab for spraying. The extra horsepower would help to run a flail mower.

CNN is reporting that Lance Armstrong may be stripped of his 6th Tour de France title!

In a random check for banned substances, 3 were found in Armstrong's hotel room.

The 3 substances banned by the French, that were found in his hotel room were as follows:

(1) Toothpaste
(2) Deodorant
(3) Soap

The French officials also found several other items which they had never seen before including testicle(s) and a backbone.

I'm curious about the length problem on the PTO & Top link. So far I've used it with Bush Hog & Tiller and had no PTO issues. I don't think the dealer cut the shaft to length on either, just collapsed it enough. I've also used with Box blade & Subsoiler just fine as well. As far as the top link, It did seem a little close on the box blade one time, but I had stored in on a sloped surface and had problems getting it hooked. I don't use a top link on the hog, the chain trick I read about here works very well for me cutting on hills.

I have a Long 310 that I have more or less inherited. I have used the tractor many times before but a leak in the coolant system has put the tractor out of commission for about 5 years (mostly laziness and no immediate need to get it fixed). I now want to get it running again but I don't know where to begin. What needs to be done as far as maintanence to get it running again? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, how can you tell what year the tractor was made in? I do not have the original paperwork or owners manual. Thanks.

yes, adding weight to the wheels/tires would help in hillside stability, also taking off the loader, that adds weight with a higher center of gravity can help. Sometimes on a small machine like yours, I drive it on a hill that limits my comfort level, and get off. then I push or pull the machine to see if it is near its tipping limit. I have been suprised several times when I thought it was unstable but was unable to even rock a wheel off the ground. After that, I drove on the hill with plenty of confidence. Just watch out for holes or rocks that can throw several more degrees of tilt in a matter of a second. On some of my machines, they will actually slide down the hill sideways before they reach their limit for tipping.
