mielkemanor, oil changes and fresh clean oil are good things but not always. Many diesel engine manufacturers use a break-in oil for the first oil added to the engine. This oil is a specially blended oil that aids the seating of piston rings and the break in of moving parts and bearings. Many dealers recommend leaving the factory fill oil in the engine for the full 50 hours and in some cases where ring seating is not complete; they will refill the engine with break-in oil at the 50 hour mark and run it another 50 hours. Deere recommends running it for the first 100 hours in new, overhauled, and remanufactured engines. Worst case is that the engine consumes more oil and a longer break-in period is required. I ran the factory fill oil in my 4410 for the full 50 hours recommended and then changed it as per the owner's manual.

kwschumm: Thanks for the information. Although the tractor is older than I thought I still think it is a pretty good deal. My biggest concern still in the back of my mind is it is still 50 years old. I don't want a maintenance nightmare down the road. Do you have a similiar tractor? If so how is it holding up.

Any information would be helpful.

Yugo's I will go along with.

A Belarus however is a really rugged well-built tractor, way heavier than North American farmers would tolerate, but nearly bullet-proof. They have some nifty features that ours still don't have, like a fuel tank mounted down low, with a filler cap that's at about the same height as that on a pickup, and a 3pth equipped with powered down-pressure.

Go just about anywhere they use tractors for forestry work and I'm sure you will find plenty of them working away.

There are many ways to accomplish it.

Adjusting one drop link in your 3pth works well.

If you are going to do it fairly regularly you might want to look into modifying your box blade slightly to achieve this rather than fiddling with the 3pth everytime then putting it back to normal every time. This can be done as simply as afixing a trailer jack equipped with a small wheel as a foot to one side of the blade, then just crank it up to whatever offset you want.

Adjustable skid shoes will accomplish the same thing, just lift the blade into the air, lower one skid shoe, then drop it and go.

The 'serious' road maintenance blades have a pair of wheels out the back, one in each corner, which are independantly adjustable by the operator via hydraulics 'on the fly' but unless you have a LOT of road work I doubt you'd want to spend that kind of money.

The sounds you hear can help you, some of which could be:

1)Engine turns too slow -- Bad Battery
2)Click Click -- Battery or Pull in Solenoid on starter, or corroded connections.
3) Spinning electric motor sound but no cranking -- Stuck pull in solenoid
4)No sound at all -- Safety switch or Battery, or faulty connection.

Have fun!

I would try to jump start it to eliminate some of the above first.

Actually Tom since the relationship between current, voltage and resistance is a variable one best described as a triangle, when one of the three 'sides' of the triangle changes, at least one other side has to change to keep it a triangle (connected). In this case for instance, a shorted cell in the battery would mean lower voltage than the 12v design, since the resistance of the solenoid is fixed, the only thing that can change is the current. As Voltage drops the current raises proportionately if the resistance is unchanged. If you lose one cell you are down by about 12%, that doesn't sound like much, but if that short drags the other cells down to lower voltages and the battery is putting out only say 9v, that is a 25% drop in voltage. If the normal peak load in that circuit is 2.5 amps and it goes up by 25% it is over the 3 amp fuse capacity and it blows the fuse.

I have seen starters burned up from this effect, particularly when people are trying to light up big diesels equipped with multiple batteries in the winter. The current can get way beyond normal, and when combined with the load it can do in a good starter surprisingly fast.

Same Durwood Duc. Here is my problem with Corrihers and the reason i'm siding with Mark on this. On their website they run down the Vietnamese rebuilts and say they are basically junk. Then they go on to say that they personally went to Japan and looked over hundreds of tractors and only picked i think eighty or so that were the best of the lot. That would leave one to believe that they only handled the very best. It doesn't sound like Mark got one of those. That is deception in my book. I always thought if i was to bid on one off E-bay, that it would be one of theirs because of the way they have advertised theirs. Wrong...i guess.

I wouldn't care what I may or maynot invision an FEL for..BUY IT! I use mine in more ways than I ever dreamed. The wife comes in with a van load of groceries, I load them in the bucket. Moving a 55gal drum..the bucket with forks...etc. The most useful implement of all that I have is the FEL...but I need them all. It's like an extension of your hands. I just can't imagine my 2210 without one.

I have a question regarding side stability on a BX2230. I have some hilly property and when I'm mowing on a side hill I think I should be OK, it just doesn't "feel stable". Would fluid in the tires help? I also have a weight box, but can't see how that would help much for side stability. Any thoughts?

Sounds like your only going to use it for a GARDEN and some brush hogging (4 and 5) you can rent for your ssl a tiller and a BHog if its a seasonal thing. I agree, a skid steer is the way to go with 1,2,3. Especially since you can get a enclosed cab model heat and air in the price range of a decent sized cut. I was buying a brand new skid steer but decided to get a used one and opt for the NEW tractor this year. As murf and others have stated if lawn or other factor come into play scratch the ssl. I have used the ls180 in the woods alot, you need to watch where you go but it is a great machine. My buddy has a bobcat 865 (I think that is the number) What a power house!!!! Heck they are right too Buy a new tractor and a used skid loader.

Yes even when empty. I wish I would of paid more attention to what it sounded like now. Maybe a slight hissing noise, just when I start to lift and only for 1/2 second. Will be using it again in 1 1/2 weeks so I will do some investigating then. Yes it could be something lodged like a rock, there are plenty of them there! LOL
