Northern Tool and others sell special nozzles for use with sprayers for treating trees, I recall reading in the catalogue that thye would spray 'up to' 50 feet.

I could only find one on their website though, see the link below.

Yep, he's the one, unfortunately by commenting as an unregistered user he can slip in under the wire.

Razor wire is good security, but it won't stop a snake in the grass.

Mark seems to have a pretty good method for dealing with them though, now how do we get a shovel to go through the internet?

Ken, the bar soap might work but I suspect it might be too soft to stay put in the sockets.

The other trick I failed to mention was when you put the anvils back in and set the gap, make sure that the anvil and the seat are really good and clean then use a couple of drops of lock-tite on the anvil and seat. It seems to help keep everything from moving around.

If you have a good machine shop around I'll bet you can get the extra blades done for very little money. We did it with a small unit we used to have and it was only about $600 and took about a week to have it done.

Face it, when buying a grey market tractor or buying anything from ebay, Caveat Emptor is the rule. Especially when it's well known that parts are not readily available.

Machinerylink dot com says the TO30 was made from 1951-1954. That serial number is a 1954 I believe. Asking price for a 1954 in good condition is around $2500 so the price isn't bad.

Also am sorry to hear about your Dad's failing health. It is important to spend time with him while you still can. I lost both my Dad a couple of years ago so know what you are going through. Your 3 point hauler looks nice. If I had designed it, would have put braces on the male tubes back to the triangle, since the bending moment gets pretty high at the welds. Nice job!

Mike, we use 2 different products depending on the situation and customer prefferences.

The one that we use the most, and like the best, is a blend known commercially as simply 'brine', it is a blend of several different chlorides, magnesium, calcium, sodium and potassium.

With liquid we have better control over the rate of application as well as the area being treated. We use a 3pth mounted electric sprayer on the CUT's that sits on top of the existing counter balance. Any good weed sprayer will work for this task.

The blades we use are stock pickup truck blades, the quick-tatch plate is adapted to accept the blade. You can usually find a good used blade for under $300 and can often use an existing plate and just add the mounts to it.

Some of the complaints listed do seem to be personal taste. I'm no longer much of a Ford fan but I drove a new F150 loaner once and was really impressed with the seating and comfort in that truck.

A friend of mine, who also happens to own the local Ford store, has so much fun with his CUT at home that he bought a 65hp New Holland with a cab & FEL and we mounted a blade on a quick-tatch bracket for him so that he can have some seat time clearing the lot after it snows. Summer time it lives at his weekend place.

It's pretty funny to see him out there happiliy pushing snow around, he's definitely not the 'overalls' type of guy.

I can't imagine that you can hurt anything with fresh clean oil. I would get the engine up to operating temp before changing though.

If your tractor is like mine it only holds a couple of quarts so it would be hard to spend three bucks on the whole deal. And since your main concern is water contamination (and its attendant acid creation) and the hours are so low... it would seem to me that you could keep the oil filter in place until you hit the fifty hour mark.

You really got to get more seat time!

That's for sure, a crown is a must. No crown, potholes after the first good rain. Good crown, and good compaction, cut out the potholes about twice a year. I have also found that if I use the scarifiers for digging up for regrading, I need to really make sure I have enough passes to dig up the entire width of the road. If you don't make enough passes, it looks great when you are done, but will wear in ruts at the scarifier lines.

It sound like you have about the same needs as I do. I've got the 3130DT with 723 loader and have skidded quite a few logs with it that are about the same size as you have. I rarely needed more power. The trees were skidded out full length then limbed and topped at the landing. I also have a "poor man's grapple" that I fabricated to pile logs that you can see on my pix. This works great and was cheap to put together.

Just a follow up...the Dodge did fine, it now has 2800 miles on it, and, unfortunately, I now have to think about selling it...can't afford 3 vehicles and a tractor! I have alway driven Ford pickups, but this Dodge was very comfortable and drove well, even pulling it's maximum recommended trailer weight. Quite impressive.

Has anyone replaced the thermostat in the 790? The manual says that it should be replaced every two years...BUT the manual also gives no procedures other than to say "see your John Deere dealer". What's the catch? Why would I need to go to the JD dealer just to replace the thermostat? Does anyone have the procedure for replacing it?<br>

My buddy was finally able to figure out what the problem was -- his battery had an internal short in it. Once he replaced the battery (and the fuses again), it worked fine.

The throttle lever seems really tight - I find I have to give it a really good tug to get up around 2500-2600RPM to get the PTO ~540 for the bushhog. Will this loosen up?<br>

I can't honestly judge any brand of cordless tools except those I own. After being in the furniture and cabinet business for nearly 35 yrs. I bought one. I had never owned a cordless power tool. When they first came into the market I tried one out, I can't remember the brand, it did'nt have enough power to do anything so I had just ignored them all this while. We're in the midst of puting up a couple steel buildings this summer, I'd noticed that all the pole barn builders were using them to screw the tin on, so I did a little research. John Deere has them on sale I think thru the end of Aug., so I bought the kit with the drill a circular saw, batteries, flashlight and the charger. I kind of chuckled at that little circular saw, but to the carpenter's and my total amazment it sliced thru white oak planks like they were cardboard. He won't even use his Skilsaw because the little Deere just seems to never give up. The drill runs the screws into the oak nailers like ther's nothing to it. I think the kit comes with a five year warranty too. I don't know anything about Rigid, bit the Deere kit deserves a look. Frank.

For the most part round up or clone will not harm a horse but my vet told me about 2 local cases where a horse died from an allergic reaction to the stuff. You still must use caution when exposing the animal the first time.

Hello, this is my first post. I am in the process of building out a vineyard. I have never operated a tractor in my life. This spring a couple growers and local farmer helped me get a 1/2 acre in the ground. However, I just bought 2 more acres and want to start investigating what would work best for me. <br>

My rows are 8' apart, and my terrain has a marginal slope. so I don't think I need a specialized vineyard tractor. I need it to bush hig, mow between rows and I also need a 12" auger attachment and some sort of scoop to clear small brush, etc.. Ideally I'd also need something to deep till the ground with as well. Oh yes, and I need to use it to spray, so a closed cabin is not required, but perhaps an otion for it, would be great.<br>

I plan on growing my vineyard to maybe 5-10 acres in a couple years...so I'd the tractor to work with me at least that long. <br>

Any vineyard owners out there? I was thinking of the Kubota L3010? <br>
