Sounds like you have a self-diagnosing controller. If is anything like mine it is bad. Mine is called a Prodigy by Drawtite. It's a high-end piece of you-know-what. It has been replaced once and still doesn't work like it should. I'm going back to the old reliable---and less-expensive--- one that doesn't have all the fancy electronics which are prone to failure.

yooperpete, I know what you mean by the surface rust, my wife's car does the same thing. However with the truck there is something more. The rotors are only being half uses. normal smooth bight steel, and above rotor that has not been rubbed in awhile..

I have both a NH TC33D (no loader) and a NH LS180 skid loader. Each has their place. And one isn't better than the other. But if I had to choose I would go with the skid loader IF it had tracks--which are a MUST in soft ground.

I feel like a 73 year old kid! I got my 4110 Fel 60"MMM and 54" blade today. I hope to enjoy it while I can.It's been to hot for me to get on it and play, and my wife says I'm just a big kid. She is right but I feel like at my age I deserve a little pleasure. I'm reading all the manuals now and I read every posting on this board. I may get to be a pain in the neck so I'll try not to ask many questions. There probably enough answers on this board if I can just find them. I told my wife it was the board that made me do it!<br>

I just got and SD1840 and want to change all the fluids. Does anyone know what a suitable gear oil is for this tractor? Same question for hydraulic oil. <br>

It looks to me like each wheel has its own sump plus the gearbox sump, plus the engine sump. Are there others? Does the hyduaulic pump share oil with the main gearbox? It looks like the suction line connects to it.<br>

Sounds like what you really want is the standard issue Klingon Death Phazer for the front of that bad tractor.

Seriously, if 'mechanical intervention' is your method of choice then all you need is a good solid box blade with scarifiers. A couple of passes with the scarifiers down to loosen anything not scared out of the way, then a little dragging with the blade and you will have a first class fire break.

Just be sure to save the beer for the 'admire the finished job' phase, alcohol & diesel don't mix very well.

Hello everyone. I have an opporunity to obtain a 2001 John Deere 455 lawn tractor. This machine features a 22hp Yanmar diesel. It has 106 hours. Also included is the 60" heavy duty belly mowing deck, glass cab w/wiper, 48" front mount John Deere snowblower, John Deere roller (water filled), couple sets of blades, rear weights and an aerator(not spelled correct?).<br>
I am trying to put a dollar value on this complete setup. I have known the owner for years, and know he has his local Deere dealer do all the service on it.<br>
Everything is in excellent, ready to work condition.<br>
Any input is greatly appreciated. I am having a hard time putting a $ amount on the package.<br>

Just to give you an idea of what some of these 'rural' places we maintain are like I put up a picture I took, during the summer, of one of the driveways.

Picture # 17 shows the driveway into a customer's place. It is that size and condition because that's the way he WANTS it. Believe it or not that how he had it designed, if you call it that, and built. It was so far from 'normal' construction the contractor who built it insisted the customer sign a statement attached to a copy of the plans that basically certified that he wanted it just like that.

It is hard to tell from the picture, but the hill is so steep that the trucks delivering building materials had to be towed up the hill by a bulldozer. Fuel oil & propane are delivered by a 1 ton 4x4 only, no 5 ton would go up the hill, and if you did there is nowhere at the end to turn around anything that big.

The owner wanted to maintain the 'rustic charm' of the property, so the driveway was designed to be passable in the owner's Range Rover, but just barely.

That's a good price. It's better than what I'm paying for mine and I'm in Iowa. Heck, I'd have driven to Minnesota for that price. Where at? I did go with the coolant heater though for winter use. Learned that from living up in Roseau.

It was a high of 75 degrees the day I left South Carolina and a high of -11 the day I arrived in Roseau, MN.

I was a little suspicious of the plastic New Holland tractors at first. I've dropped a block or two of firewood on my TC29 fender, and it didn't hurt it a bit. Mine is almost 4 years old now, and if I were to wash/wax it, the plastic would look close to new. So, yeah, I'm a fan. Don't know if it will last 50 years like the old Fords, but we'll see.
I've had a chance to use an 8N and my TC back-to-back and they are comparable in pulling power. What you give up with the industrial tires you get back with the 4wd.
If you haven't used a modern compact, you'll love the live PTO and hydraulics.

I just purchased a 2210 w/ 62c MMM and 54" front blade. I wanted the blade for clearing snow from my asphalt driveway (fairly large driveway ~300'+). Now I was wondering if I should have purchased the FEL instead. The blade (w/ angling, etc) was $1100. The dealer offers the 53" FEL for $1800 (not sure if that includes the ballast box or not). Thoughts? <br>

I can relate, we don't have any kids, it used to be a joke between us, she couldn't have kids, at least not without me being there.

My business used to be very quiet in the winter, so I would work my tail off all spring, summer & fall, then go south with the boat for the entire winter to our 'cottage' in The Bahamas.

My wife & my doctor put an end to that, thankfully before it was too late. Now the goal is to enjoy life AS it goes by.

OK... I re-read this post and I wonder how the boom can be drooping if the transport pin is in place? The bucket can't hit the ground unless the boom is moving and the boom can't move with the pin in place.<br>

It is normal for to have to trim things up every hour or so while doing loader work. The bucket will uncurl a couple inches and the outriggers will drift a little too... that is not a problem. It is also normal for the FEL to drift with a heavy load in it and the engine running.<br>

When I separate the backhoe from the tractor and store it, the outrigger arms will droop all the way to the ground over the course of a couple days if I don't tie them up.<br>

Unless I am missing something, I think you are missing a locking pin.

Yeah, I know this isn't the ideal trailer towing rig, but I have to get some stuff back from Florida, and the truck itself is too big for a tow dolly or trailer behind a rental truck, according to Uhaul and Ryder. Hopefully, if I take it easy, I won't leave the tranny in WV before I get home...
