I like the heavier, stiffer R-4's especially for loader work. I have found they work well in most conditions except for heavy thick mud and clay. They just load up and become slicks unless you can run through some thick grass to clean them off. The R-4's don't tear up grass like the ag tires.

I am probably into a "belt and suspenders" issue.

I use Power Service because it says it will control bacterial growth... although I hear that is a bigger problem in wetter climes.

I use 85 Plus primarily for its lubricating qualities for the injector pump and upper cylinders.

Which Red Line product are you looking at?

The only reason I can think of to buy a 790 over a 4115 would be if your budget is so tight that a few dollars a month would be a big deal.

The 4115 is more tractor for the money, and is much less tiring to operate, especially if you are in the seat several hours at a time.

Maneuvering the back hoe to just the right spot is so much easier with an HST. I haven't hit the house or scraped the bark off a tree since I traded-in the 4100 Gear.

Well if you have not yet bought yours I hope this will let others know that I have 55 hours my one month old BX23 and it has done everything that I have needed it to do. Digging, moving, pulling, mowing, etc. The only down is the seat for a short 5'4" person, cuts in and out going over bumps.

My experience having trailered many items on numerous types of trailers (yes, I've been one of those pulling a full size backhoe behind a 3/4 ton truck), is that you can't every have to much truck or brakes. If the load makes you feel uneasy in a good situation driving down the road, imagine what's going to happen in a panic situation. I'm currently using a 2500HD diesel/Allison to pull my 4400 on a 16' trailer. Even with brakes on both trailer axles, when I have the FEL and backhoe on the tractor, it still not going to stop in a hurry. Another important consideration is that trailers are also rated at a particular speed. If you look at most equipment trailers, their rating are at 45 to 55 mph. If you are pulling a trailer on the interstate at 65 mph, you are most likely exceeding the capacity if you are near the limit of the axles to begin with.

While doing my 50 hour maintenance I noticed I had busted off two Zerk fittings on my 7308 loader. I got the one on the side pin out ok, but the one that the quick attach locking pin slides thru seems to be a press fit? Are those metric or standard fittings?

I went to my Farm Bureau agent and had him write an artisan contractors policy for liabilty and property to cover the tractor and attachments. It runs me $650 per year. This includes $1mil. liabilty and $20K in property. This provides me coverage no matter whose property I'm working on. I was concerned about coverage when transporting the tractor even if to do work on my own property.

Iowafun, you sure don't sound very excited about your new tractor purchase? Congratulations on a fine machine by the way. ;o) I think you will be much more enthusiastic about the machine once you get into using it. Make 'em give you a hat and coffe mug at least! ;o)

I think Chief and Ken have pretty much covered everything, but I would like to add that this is operator error and no fault of Kubota. If they didn't have the crossbar and you bent the loader then you would complain about that. I take my loader off every week and it takes less than 5 minutes to remove and put back on. I have never had the bar hit my hood (knock on wood). If you follow the manual you shouldn't have a problem. JParker or Beagle has never said anything about hitting their hood either.
This board is about helping and discussing ideas not about complaining and whining. Go sell your tractor and hire someone to do the work for you because apparently you are unable to use a machine correctly.

If you have found the fuel, spark, and compression to be within limits. Try looking at the govenor. If the govenor linkage is not moving through its full range of motion, is binding, out of adjustment, or plain just is not working, this could account for the sudden loss of performance. You are going to need a shop manual to check out the govenor and make adjustments if needed.

I've notice on my 7800 when the tractor sets overnight the MMM mower will bleed down to the ground but the bucket may only drop down an inch or so (can't store the loader on the ground due to room). Is that normal for the mower deck to bleed down or should I have the dealer check it out?

I use my rear cutter quite a bit since sometimes I want material to come off to the side of the blade rather than be carried in the box. The rear cutter is especially handy in rough work for cutting down hills and also for short shallow excavation work.

A rear cutter can save a lot of time since a rough pass can be made in reverse and then a 'leveling' pass can be made going forward all without turning the tractor around. Maneuvering can take a bunch of time. However, it is good to remember that 3ph's are designed to pull rather than push. It's pretty easy to bend the lift arms or for the scraper to float up and jam a 3ph against it's mechanical stops.

It's a little tough to trouble-shoot w/o a wiring schematic, and I also don't know the tractor. I'd probably let a dealer figure it out.

Here are a couple of thoughts. If the gauge reads empty when the tractor is off and goes to full when on then the gauge isn't mechanically stuck. Some connections use three wires--a hot from the battery, a send to the gauge and a ground. I think the gauge always would read full if the hot and send wires were reversed. Some gauges are ballasted so they read full deflection at 9V (that prevents the gauge changing due to varying alternator output

The resistance in the sender unit would be calculated for 9V rather than 12V. A wrong gauge, one with an open ballast or one combined with a wrong sender may read full all the time. Some test procedures us a 9V battery to test a gauge. The resistance through the sender unit should change as the fuel level varies. I think the resistance could be measured from the hot wire to ground (preferably when the battery wire is disconnected).

Wildman, etal: Thanks for the tips. I, too have many trees in the yard/woods near a stream. I've been laying some underground electric and the Sub-Soiler tooth would have saved me lots of shovel work and chopping of roots! I'll be looking for one at TSC this weekend!

On a similar note, I am trying to decide between a JD 4115 and a Kubota 7800 or 2910. Both handle the 72" mmm and seem to have a capable FEL. JD is rated at 24 hp and Kubota is rated at 30. I have always liked green but the spec sheet seems to be tipping the scale to the color orange. Anyone else go through this one?

If it's like my TC33D then there is no steering shaft or steering box like in a pick-up truck. It is steered all by hydraulics. A hydraulic cylinder moves the steering linkage. It sounds like you are low on power steering fluid and it is getting airated. When you let it sit some of the air settles out of the fluid. If it is low....fill it and keep rechecking it because it will take a while to get all the air out.
