dually50, if you are looking for a VERY trouble free and RELIABLE basic CUT the 790 is tough to beat. I echo Ken and Mark's comments. The tractor will more than likely outlast you. ;o)

Take your loader off and try it. My TC33D acts weaker with the loader on because it weighs almost 1000 pounds. Same thing with the belly mower. It slows the tractor because it weighs maybe 700lbs. When Winter comes and I only have my rear snow blade on, it feels like it has twice the power.

If you are going to be mowing for hire, I would strongly suggest you take a look at the Deere 609 or 709 rotary cutters. The MX cutters are VERY nice cutters and WELL up to most any task but if you plan on using it for hire, there is no telling what you may run over or into with the cutter. The 609 is a monster with respect to construction and steel thickness as compared to the MX series cutters. The 709 may be at the weight and power limits of the 4710.

Ann, what is the latest update with your pto situation? Have you been able to get the repairs done? I would be interested in what was found to be the problem if you have.

It should be VERY interesting to see the future comments on the new 4000 Twenty Series machines as folks gradually purchase them. Personally, I am not so sure the extra hp will be money well spent in some cases as I have never run into a power problem with my 4410 in any but the most extreme of cases and just to see if I could reach that point. In just about every case the tractor lost traction before power became an issue. I prefer the more compact size of the 4410 as compared to the 4320 but I agree with Ken that more hp is a good thing! ;o) I would imagine the as the 4000 Twenty Series machines begin to populate the dealer lots and showrooms; there will be some really good deals on the left over 4000 Ten Series machines, especially the 4115's, 4410's, and 4710's.

I can atest to what Hardwood said about the Land Pride implements. I have the LR1584 landscaping rake and it has perform VERY well and from comparisons with other rakes; it is constructed much more heavy duty. I also have the RT1558 tiller and PD25 phd. Both are very well constructed and the tiller has worked excellent. I have not used the phd yet but I have no doubts it will perfom in the same manor. The only comment I would have that is not a pro comment is that the Land Pride equipment as well as the Frontier are VERY expensive as compared to many other brands. Frontier makes good equipement too although I have never used or purchased any. I am sure you will be happy and very satisfied with either so I would suggest working on obtaining the best price and dealer service.

I can call off the deck many times just barely getting service, with Verizon. Cingular has no service at all unless atsomphere is just exactly so.

On top of my TV tower 70' I get a solid bar of service on Verison and still no service with Cingular.

I have Verizon and cingular phones plus 2 land lines. It's a pain to fwd calls back and forth at home plus 2 and from work.

I think Joannes customers would also benifit from a repeater here at the house. Maybe a tax write off??? :-)

But I need to do more research B 4 I commit money to the project.

I wonder if keeping the implements on pallets that have casters would help? They probably could be moved around by hand and lined up with the door to minimize maneuvering with the tractor.

Juggling implements in my shelter tent is a problem. At 14' wide there's no room for maneuvering. At least the tent has doors on both ends. Some implements front and some back so I don't have to take everything out to get if I need to hook up the first one I put away last year. Still, I'm tired of juggling implements and really want to build an equipment shed. It will definitely have a door in the front and also along one side.

According to the JD book, this would be the weights 2210 alone 1400 lbs, 62" deck with attaching hardware 350 lbs, 210 loader with 49" bucket, 536 lbs, totally 2286 lbs.

The hours might be getting in the range for a new clutch if it had had a lot of loader use. The pumps and injectors can be expected to go for awhile. It shouldn't make much exhaust smoke at start up and that should diminish to a puff of gray when throttle is added when it warms up. However, it might smoke some if the valve clearances and injection timing haven't been set in awhile.

There shouldn't be much blow-by from the crankcase breather. The control levers shouldn't feel 'sloppy' or be bent. I'd check the loader frame for cracks at the welds (lifting the front with the bucket can reveal unseen cracks).

You might try backing it up hill with weight in the loader to see if it pops out of reverse. It's an aggravation if it happens frequently, and eventually it won't stay in gear. It's not a big repair but can require a split.

I don't know the TX options for the 20-series but it might be good to know if it has live pto and if the three forward gears are synchromesh. On 10-series tractors, the optional TX with synchromesh and live pto has a shift lever on the steering column.

Pretty good tractors far as I know and several around here are still in commercial service. The 10-series tractors had a few weaknesses that were fixed for the 20-series, but I don't know if the front drive was beefed up. On the 10-'s you did want to avoid using 4wd for heavy loader unless there was a lot of ballast on the 3ph.

I'm currently looking for a tractor to get firewood with & tend to 50 acres. Cost is a factor as with everyone, we currently have only a DF-Bulldog dealer close bye & they are by far the cheapest. I'm looking at a 25hp 4x4 with loader & backhoe for $14500, would anyone have advice for me if this will get me through the woods, pull stumps & dig enough dirt for a small pond & other stuff? Is there anything else for a better price/quality? Thanks folks.

I've got an Oliver 550 diesel with loader that I will be looking to sell after the PTO is repaired in the enxt couple of weeks. I've never been able to find the serial number or any indication of what year it was built. Can anyone tell me where to look?

I have had my BX22 for almost a year now and love it. When you go to remove the bh make sure you have it on solid ground or blocked directly under the three main contact points, otherwise it can possibly sink enough over time so that when you go to reattach it the hoses won't reach and you're using a hydraulic lift under the main frame to compensate. Step by step review as you are doing it helps and of course repitition. A box blade is a great moderately priced counterweight and handy grading tool for your driveway.

I will tell you this the new tc 33da is a hard tractor to beat. The loader lifts more than the previous 7308 looks are better great power to weight ratio.
