My local NH dealer has a 1991 Ford 1920 4wd (gear) with Ford FEL and 1880 hours on it. It appears to be in decent shape with good tires and straight sheetmetal and good but faded paint. He's asking $8900 for it and might deal a little. A check of Machinery Link shows that the price is fair even without the FEL. My questions are: 1) Are there any known troublespots on this model? 2) Is there anything I need to look at in particular when checking this unit out? and 3) Is the price fair in the real world?<br>

Just my 2 cents, but I would never, ever haul a tractor with a single axle trailer. Definately go tandem. 12' tandems can be found everywhere. I have three trailers, not counting my bass rig and all are tandems. You'll value the extra axle when you find yourself with a flat or worse with a blow-out at 60 mph.

Hi ya'all, I just finished making a set of bucket forks for my TC40'2 HD bucket. Is there anything I should be aware of when using them? Wondering if anyone has ever had anyproblems with damaging their bucket (of course caution and common sense will be used while using them).<br>
My main use for them will be to move attatchments in and out of the garage (on skids) as so not to wipe out the garage with the bucket while manuvering impliments into their place for storing. Any advice will be welcome, thanks guys!<br>

I'm about to buy a reconditioned E224 with a frontend loader. The owner is willing to sell it $6500 (asking $7600). The reconditioned engine only has 31 hours on it. He is remodeling his house and in need of $$. Is this a fair price? I already test-drived it, seem OK. I also need a brush-hog, but this one doesn't have it. How much does it cost for a bush hog.<br>

Well I went with the Frontier 72" rake with guage wheels for $795.... Hope this was a good selection...Documentation indicates this rake is actually manufactured by Woods... Interesting!!

I agree with BROKEN, I go with a least 40 hp.I have the same amount of ground as you and I started with a 790 and learned that with time your plans and ideas will change as mine did, and the 790 wouldn't fit the bill.I traded it in on a 5205 Deere in a little over year and took a bit of a loss in turn,If I would of known what I know now I would of started with more HP. LEARNING AS I GO.

Hate to hear about your lift problem. This is an unusual part to damage so probably hard to find in stock.

The Factory part number is 300.55.102 for the shaft
and the 5 bushings are part number 300.55.105

If you have not found the part in stock stateside, let me know, I have a container leaving soon and there is a chance I can get this part for you.

Sympathies, that's not a good story! I suppose I'll eventually find myself in similar circumstances trying to support my Ford through NH. However, the parts support has been OK so far.

Maintenance costs do seem to be exploding among the big-3 as well. Any one of the big-3 certainly make tractors that are a pleasure to own, but I'm starting to wonder if 'tractors in crates' are starting to be a alternative--sort of a disposable commodity idea. A major failure out of warranty can be about the same cost as a new crate tractor. Wouldn't like to see it though.

No, not still in warranty. I don't remember if you had an option that year or if it was the only standard warranty, but his is 3 yr/36000 miles.

I forget what part of the Case operations NH divested themselves of to avoid some sort of anti-trust issue, and that could be the problem. However, NH hasn't exactly done a bang-up job of supporting everything it acquires.

Since it's a motor, I wonder if a hydraulics shop could adapt something for the application or possibly repair the case fairly easily?

And by that respect I also agree.
It would be easier and better to buy local (Not to mention keeping the food on the plate so to say of the people next door who work there)as they provide more on the personal end.
And if that works out that they were a large asset to your purchase, advertise them here also..
Everyone is looking for a great deal during and after the buy..so they might take the trip.
All I am saying is don't critisize the advertisement of others..Just add your own..the more we know on different dealers..the better..

I do a miniature version of what Lucerne mentioned. It's just a shallow excavation not quite 2' deep and in the shade. I just push back the compost in the fall and take out what I need. Then, fill it with leaves, needles and partially composted kitchen parings etc. from two bins, add a bit of lime and fertilizer and cover it with the remaining compost from previous years. My wife digs down a bit and takes what she needs periodically since the material on top is fairly well composted

The mound starts off at least 1' above grade in the fall. I turn it a couple of times during the summer and again when I add new leaves. By fall the mound is back down to grade level. This year I'll add some topsoil to the covering. Doing it this way seem to take about a year. Some sort of box that provides better aeration and moisture would work better but what I'm doing works for my needs.

I got two Central Wisconsin "hard" quotes last week on a 2210 with 210 FEL, 54" MMM, and single Stage Blower. One was for $14,441 w/o tax (Tractor and Loader was $11,163 Plus about $350 set-up/delivery, minuus $300 implement discount w/o tax. The second was for $14,800 + $50 setup w/o tax.<br>

Moving to the 62" mower is +$300 (or $1,470) and to the 2 stage blower is another $300 ($2,328) I'm told.<br>

I got a 3rd quote from another area JD dealer on the same full package but for $16,652!!

Hire the guy if you can afford too. Don't forget the subgrade and drain before you start filling it.Compact before the stonedust and again after.
