Well I went with a RED that I liked, (I cant stand the original color, and I went with the dark grey from the 2n colors. Since this is a half breed 2n/8n I thought it did not matter (for restoration pourposes since it is not ever going to be original) And I think it looks real pretty (LOL) I think I already posted a pic. I am rebuilding the starter now!!!! ARGGGGG so soon I will have the electricals figured out and put the hood and grill on, of course It will have to wait till the fields get planted for the fall draw.
It was fun for awhile but time is starting to wear on me, just cant seem to find free time lately and my bride is starting to get a little upset that her tractor (LOL) is in her spot in the garage!!!! Better get going soon ehhh?

Any of the N series (9N=1939-42, 2N=1942-1947, 8N=1948-1951?) go for about $1500-$2500 in farm use condition around here. Restored, $2500-$4000.

OK If your over the initial shock, now go price a tc40. If your planning on mowing 20 acres now and then it may be worth the extra bucks. I saved a few $ by going with a gear trany (and see no problem when mowing 10 acres) just put her in gear and drive, same speed that cuts good, no reason to vary it (I have found anyway) For what its worth the 40hp has 1 extra cyl. (4cyl.) A 33 I am sure you will make do with just fine, Like 5picker said, but if you can swing it, you wont be unhappy with a bit more hp for mowing that 20 acres. Good luck go Large!!!

I went to the hardware store today and bought 2 80# bags of ready mix, a 10 gallon metal garbage can and a 1/2" steel round stock. Put it through the can, mixed the cement in my wheel barrow and filled it. It comes on and off easily with teh 3 point hitch. I threw a couple of eye botls in the top to connect all 3 points, what a difference in tight spaces where the york rake is too big. My BX is 100% more stable with this small amou8nt of weight.

The 2750, as well as most other larger deere models, use a closed center hydraulic system. Even while cranking, the pump is trying to produce 2300 psi which is putting additional load on the starter. When you turn the steering wheel while cranking the engine, it releases some of this high pressure oil to the steering system and the engine cranks faster. If everything in the starting circuit is up to par, turning the steering should not be neccasary. One of your batteries may be weak, one of the battery cables may have resistance, or the starter may need repair. If your starter has ever been replaced, someone may have installed the incorrect one. If you have a chronic problem with this and you would like to improve the starting, there is an electric destroke kit for the hydraulic pump available. It prevents the pump from building pressure while cranking. It is pretty expensive and it is something you would probably want the dealer to install. Some pumps have a manual destroke valve from the factory. If you see a "T" handle in the top of your pump, try turning it in a few turns before cranking the engine. You will be amazed how much faster it cranks. After the engine starts, you will need to back out the screw completely so the hydraulics work. I hope this answers your question without confusing you. I just remembered, there is also a heavy duty starter available that cranks faster with less current draw. A new one is RE51694 and a reman one is TY6719.

jd60kid, My name is Derek, Im 14,I live in Illinois, and I have a 790. THIS is the machine to buy. I have a mowing buisness and I mow fields with the 790 and use it on my grandpa's farm. For me its got to be the green also. Good luck with buying. Hope you get a 790.

Dually50 - You may want to look into a 4210 or 4310. the 790 is a power house but the tranny is old school. It will get to you after a while, especially if you plan to mow alot or do loader work.

There are quite a number of threads on this topic, so do a search, but I paid: $9227 for the 2210, $1556 for the 62" MMM, and $2163 for the 210 loader w/53" bucket, level indicator and the weight bucket (necessary!). My location is in Central Connecticut (a high rent district), and though the dealer is fantastic (spoken with much experience) and discounts 14% without haggling, you may or may not find other regional variances.

Oliver - I built a 24 x 30 barn for our 3 horses 6 years ago. I purchased all the lumber rough sawn at Rowley lumber Co. in Otis Mass. It was about a 2 hour drive but well worth it. Bill, the owner is a nice guy with great prices & can offer you great advise on your barn project. I bought the 8" x 8" beams from him also. He is very knowledgeable. He actually drove down to my house in CT to help me lay it out & get started. I bought the stall fronts & doors at Shagbark, in a town called East Haddam, CT.

As Murf was saying about the town and cemetaries, also, local lawn care companys for leaves and grass, local florists for wilted flowers/plants. They usally give the soil and all with the plants. Our local dump gets the clippings, leaves and waste from all these and more. They roll the pile with a huge loader for about a year, then give it away. I got 7-14 yard loads last year, to do my lot around the house, then planted winter rye. It smells untill the grass starts. I found just about anything you can think of, toy trucks, sneakers,a cue ball,sprinkler, hand held garden hoe what ever a mower or a raker will pick up. But the stuff is great and it's free.

Hi, Murf.
This sounds close enough to his problem that it would be worth a look. The fluid supposedly does have a burnt smell. He's never been happy with the way it shifts; on any kind of incline, the truck is constantly looking for the right gear (or locking and unlocking the torque convertor). The dealership has been telling him all along that it was normal.

I've gotten a King Kutter box blade for my 2230, and it also works good as a counter weight, (300 lbs.) but I am curious about wheel weights for the BX tractors. <br>

The throttle cable was my own addition a couple years ago. There were 2 small punched holes on the handle already, so maybe there was a control of some sort there when it was new? It really isn't *that* heavy, when I was younger I mowed my parents yard (3/4 acre of hill) with it for a while before the 'ol Case 220 showed up.

I know exactly what happened. You check your local dealer and there price was high. Then a few days or weeks later you look at other sources, and surprise surprise there prices are thousands of dollars less. You know why. New Holland set in to place larger incentives in the time you waited. I must have had 25 to 30 people call me and tell me just what you said. My reply: I can match that price now. New Holland corporate really controls the price you pay for there tractor not the dealer, When they get a discount so do you. You should have wondered when it came to $7000 cheaper. There is no way that any dealer no matter how large could be $7000 lower with out incentives. I never said that they would out right refuse to do warranty work for you they will however make you a lower priority. Oh and F.Y.I. Most dealers lose money when it comes to warranty work for NH so there really is no green involved, some times they get lucky and break even but that is it.

OK thank you all for responding. Yes, the blades are mounted to a saucer shaped disk. The "fixed" blade appears that it too will swing if it hits something hard.

Cool, I thought I was going to have to fix it. :-)
