We had a pond when I was a kid. My dad constructed a large rake out of wood that we used to drag weeds from the pond. He ultimately used non-reproducible chinese carp (from DEC) to eat the weeds. As far as mowing around the edge - just a lot of pushing on riding mowers when you get too close to edge. We also had a small walk behind sickle bar mower whcih was good for cutting high grass. I imagine now a DR brush mower, sickle bar tractor attachment, heavy duty walk behind string trimmer might be of use. Not sure there are any magic solutions to this problem.

Ever had any matting with a rear-discharge because it doesn't spread the material out quickly enough before the rear tires run over it? I'm about to buy a 60" rear-discharge MMM and the dealer is doing his best to talk me out of it because he says it will do this matting thing.

Yes, I am looking for 1 or 2 7800�s. I have been in Auburn and Reno. I would like a base price on the tractor and then implements. The implements will vary somewhat for each tractor. 1 tractor is for discing and brush cutting. The other one to tend to horses, loader, post hold digger, box scraper, disc, brush cutter.

I always double clutch it (depress clutch fully at least twice), and make sure the tractor is idling as slow as it will go, before engaging the PTO. Even then, I nearly always encounter a slight gear clash. Since the PTO obviously isn't synchronized, I don't know if there is a way around it. It you are using an implement such as a rotary cutter and have been running it for awhile, then disengage and re-engage, you'll have quite a bit of gear clashing since the cutters continue turning for several minutes after you disengage the PTO. In that case, you'd want to wait until the blades have totally stopped.

I don't know what to tell you with it doing it over the course of a few months. Mine was about a week. I'm sure you've read my prior POSTS on this subject. I changed the ignition switch which was supposed to be a potential problem. I was surprised it was the battery because it WOULD start after turning the key several times with the 15 amp fuse in it. Everything sems fine now that they replaced the battery. Mine was 23 months old. I don't know what year yours is but maybe it's something to check if it's a few years old. Good luck.

Opinions on MMM-vs-RFM are plentiful and every one is different. My RFM works well for me and it's EZ on, EZ off and doesn't get in the way of the loader. 'Nuff said.

Could be some engine weight in there for sure but I'm thinking it's not the whole 250 lbs or so it seemed at first. Tractor weights are slippery numbers in any case, seems like everyone has a slightly different way to measure.

Art, I found a place online running a special on the model 500 with case for $99 but the shipping charges bring it up to the price at the local tool store.

I'll wander down today and pick one up. The model 500 doesn't have the second chuck for large bits but they sell it separately. Thanks for all the input guys!

Could be both! That tractor depending on hours and condition would set the price. I think that the 6500 is a full price for a unit that would be a 9-10 on a rating of 10 on condition compared to the best a used could be.
