You can get the F-150 Heritage with the 5-speed manual/overdrive. I believe that is the older body style that is running concurrent with the new F-150 model. The F-250 also comes with a 6-speed manual/overdrive.

Mike, as I am sure you are aware, my point (which was a little oblique) is that if DEET dissolves fishing line what the hell is it doing to our innards?

I have a friend who still lives in Alaska (someone Wildman knows too) who eats garlic by the clove. Sometimes at parties he will let mosquitoes land on his arm while everyone watches. As soon as the insect starts to draw blood it falls to the ground dead.

Based on the JD online parts, the hydraulic pump is the same for the 790, 2210, 4100, 670, 770, 4110<br>

However, the hydraulic pressure is not rated the same for all tractors.<br>
<br>
For example, the 4110 is rated at 2418 max while the 790 is rated at 2050 max.<br>

Mark, what happens when you fill the front tires? I've heard many times not to fill them but never really heard why.

Can anyone tell me how to check the hydraulic level on an SD1540B tractor? I have located two filler caps. One behind the seat and the other at the gear shift. Neither have a dip stick. <br>

Yep, this is a touchy one. The position of the three point or the FEL when you check the fluid will make a difference. Retract all hydraulic cylinders, lower the three point and check it again. To check the fluid level, you need to pull the dipstick, wipe it, and then recheck the fluid level. Unless you have a leak in the system, you should get consistant readings if you make sure all of your hydraulics are in the same position every time you check, and always dip twice.

Well, made an attempt at the throttle linkage last night. The only access to the spring washers and lock nut is from under the cowl. Even after getting the cowl out of the way enough to see the nut and jamb nut, more disassembly of the brake and speed control linkage would be required to do a proper job of setting the friction properly.

My advise after two hours in the barn having fun with this, the cure is worse than the disease. Live with the stiff throttle linkage, adjusting it it a nightmare.

I too, really like the hood design on the new boomers. Recently I purchased my first NH tractor with the ROPS. It will fit in my garage. A few years ago I built a detached garage and increased the overall height by extending my foundation three rows of 8" block above the floor. Then I constructed a standard wood frame stud wall. My door opening is approximately 9 ft high. My problem with the ROPS is low hanging tree limbs. I can do real damage to my trees if I am not careful. One other item, I love the NH blue color, as I live in Central Kentucky and pull for the "Big Blue", University of Kentucky Wildcats.

Itsgottabegreen; You're like the fellow on TV with his new treasure hunting do-dad that finds the 25 thousand dollar ring at the beach. I know of some collectors who would almost kill for one of those, but I think they want first year production. Most of my "vintage" things or JUNK as the Mrs. calls them are usually just one serial number too soon or too late. Have a good one. Frank.

Looks like I broke something in the front 4 wheel drive of the tractor. Slipped a gear, broke a U joint.... something. I can not find a repair center. Please help

After finding out what curtis wanted for a plow. I decide to go built my own. I took a snow plow off a kubota front mount mower. Cut and rewelded the frame so it would mount to loader arms on my B7500. I use the tilt hydraulic on the loader to angle the blade. I also have a 51" New Metero Snow blower on the back. Its great for both light and deep snows.

A loader mounted plow can't take the same amount of stress as a frame mounted plow. So you have to be care full with them.

I've got a three year old Cub-Cadet 7205 tractor with 405 hours on it. When the PTO is engaged or not engaged, life is good everything works (and sounds) fine. However, when I step on the clutch with the PTO engaged (at any engine RPM) there is a loud "clicking" noise coming from the "bell housing" of the transmission, located beneath the instrument console. The noise goes away instantly if I disengaged the PTO "on-off" lever.<br>

The dealer says that this most likely indicates a worn PTO clutch pressure plate. His hood-of-the-tractor estimate for repair is 20 hours of labor at $75 per, and about $800 worth of parts (remember, I'm in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, everything is more expensive out here).<br>
<br>
He admits to being mystified as to how this could be in this shape in only 400 hours (I'm the second owner), and he says there are no additional diagnostics available to narrow this down any further. The same dealer has done all of the routine service since the tractor was new (however, the last service was at 200 hours, two years ago). Further, he says it might last another 1000 hours, or it could fail completely tomorrow.<br>

So, my questions are:<br>
<br>
1) Do the signs I'm describing sound familiar to anyone?<br>
2) If I just go with it as is, am I setting myself up for a more catastrophic failure down the road? It works fine now, so one part of me says use it until it fails hard. <br>
3) Being on an island, there is no obvious source for a second opinion, so any thoughts on how to get a second opinion?<br>
4) If you've had this kind of surgery before, is 20 hours a reasonable labor number? He says the tractor has to be literally "split in half".<br>
