I'm looking at buying a L4330 with a cab.Does anyone have one and how do you like it for visability and ac output Thanks

Art, thanks again. I do plan to make regular use of a rear mower/slasher. Not sure where this sits on the 3ph 'heaviness' scale, but it's not a light-weight (locally manufactured, made by Ben-Wye enginering, big supplier to the local wine industry - JD rear mowers don't seem to make it to Australia). I've made my various purposes for the tractor clear to the dealer, and will be buying the slasher from them in a few months. As it's them who will be setting the tractor track width and filling the tyres pre-delivery, I figure that any issue with damage which might occur would be back in their camp - during warranty, or even in the longer term. At least I'll feel that there is a case to make should this ever arise. They certainly didn't comment on the width and tyre loading when we discussed it during the buying process, but I'll raise it specifically with them this week. Once again, the comments are very much appreciated.

We maintain the walks at my school with an L3130 and a 6 foot Curtis blade. It works really well. One thing we did not think of when we bought the set-up is to have a quick-attach bucket. It is a royal pain to take off the loader bucket and attach the blade. Because it is a pain, once the blade is on it stays on until spring. It would be really nice to be able to use the bucket. Maybe next winter we'll make changes...

Another nice thing we have is a Curtis spreader that was modified to fit on the 3PH. It is great to be able to plow and sand at the same time.

Just for the hellofit I just tried my L3130HST in High range, with loader and counterweight. It sounds as if your pedal/transmission may need adjusting, as from 1600 to max RPM I was able to start smoothly and speed up nicely on hard level ground, though power was definately marginal at the low RPM. I'd be giving my dealer a call...

I have owned both beltdrives and hydros walkbehinds. The hydro is the only way to go, if you are doing a lot a backing up or a lot of hills. My eXmark is a belt drive, because at the time I bought it, No one made a 32" hydro. Now Wright and eXmark do. Finding a walkbehind right now is hard. Since its still the begging of the mowing season. Best time to find and buy one is in the winter. I don't currently own any hydros. I up graded them to the wright stander. maugus63, great news! Glad the dealer was able to get back up and running and do it on the cheap. If you haven't done so already, this could be a good indication that all of the filters and fluids in this machine have never been changed or probably should be changed. If nothing else, it will start you off on a solid and known maintenance base line. Not to mention peace of mind knowing you have got your maintenace program started off right and have a good idea with respect to what is going on inside your new machine.

Tractor must have the dual scv to operate loader. His price is very fair. Also it cost the same to have the scv option put on at the factory as it cost to buy it in a box. Let the factory put it on. It save you labor plus it's more likely to be done correctly.

The weight box is good inexpensive loader ballast. You could also use an implement like a box blade etc.

JD dealers are graded on almost every aspect of the dealership. Appearance, Inventory, Employee training, customer satisfaction, etc. Dealers who achieve the Gold star rating recieve extra incentives from JD.

The chipper is driven by a one piece splined shaft. The pto driveshaft connects directly to the chipper and there is no square key stock or set screws or keyway. If I were to install a shear bolt it looks like an adapter of some sort would be required to fit between the chipper and the pto driveshaft. Do some pto shafts come with shear bolts already installed?<br>

I am not very worried about big shock loads since the operator hand feeds material into the chipper and should not feed rebar, but when the blower chute jams the chips and fir needles compress into a hard mass that drags on the flywheel. The tractor then lugs and sometimes stalls. Maybe a slip clutch would be better for this application.<br>

Harvey brought up a good point about what other brands do so I downloaded a BearCat pto chipper manual. It doesn't mention any sort of pto driveline protection, but the troubleshooting manual does address the clogging discharge chute and lugging/stalling of the tractor. They don't seem to be concerned about it though.

Nope, the tractor is only 5 months old, and is kept covered in the barn. Not much chance of UV fading covered in a barn in Michigan in the winter. I am aware of the new versus old Kubota orange, made sure I got the new orange for this tractor. I was hoping there was some trick that I didn't know. Thanks for your help.

We are a couple of years into tree farming and need a utility tractor for clean up, dirt road/trail maintenance, and deer plot development. Rough terrain, fairly level (no big hills), rock and mound forest, loamy, lots of rocks. I'm pricing a 5420 with 541 self-leveling loader and an RB1184 medium duty blade. Opinions on this machine appreciated. This will be our first tractor. Logging operations are contracted out at present.

I have Cabot OVT stain on my cedar siding, Cabot Finish on the Trim, and Cabot Australian Oil (CAO) on the Cedar deck.

The Cabot OVT and Finish have stood up very well, on the Deck the CAO lasts about a year and stands up the best of the Cabot stains that are not opaque.

I have just bought 12 acres. I am looking at purchasing a tractor to do the work on it, but I am not sure what type or size would be best. I am going to be pulling a brush hog, do some hay cutting, and other general work. I am on a budget, so I am looking for a used model. What would anyone recommend ?

I imagine it takes a puller but a different type puller. My Ford manual simply says "Use a suitable puller." The picture shows one with three arched arms that lock onto a ring behind underneath the sheering wheel hub. I have a puller like that but without the ring (the picture doesn't indicate how the ring gets under the hub). If I were taking off mine I'd probably see if my generic puller would work before looking for a specialized one. I'd check if the notches in the puller arms would grab onto the bottom of the hub and whether that part of the hub seemed strong enough. Your dealer service manager might show you what works.

I just had my driveway done - The first 1000 feet were pretty gentle slopes, with 2 culverts and build up in the crossings of the draws where the culverts are. The last 650 feet are in boulder strewn foothills, and took some work.

I had a minimum 12' wide road cut, and needed some blasting (in the boulder area) and my excavator, also my neighbor, charged me almost $15000, plus another $8k for putting down 7" of pit run on it. This included compaction, etc before the final grading and pit run. Even before pit run, I ran 20+ cement trucks over it without rutting - A tribute to the dirt work, since the exsisting road leading to my drivway didn't fair as well.

My geography tends to be expensive, but I did get a pretty good deal. Other excavators were charing about $1 per square foot of road space, excluding pit run.
