Having recently worked on a dataset for products in the agriculture industries, I can tell you that the "Made in where ever" label is an extremely poor predictor of quality / functionality. Predictors that were strong (> 0.25) were (not in any order): Price paid, brand, reputation, resale price - very strong predictor, after market dealer structure - very strong predictor. I would not bother worrying about where it is made unless you have other attachments (non-quality related) to that factor.

Lucerne, thanks for the compliment. We were lucky enough to be able to design and build our dream house and we absolutely love it. It was inspired by the Craftsman and Arts & Craft styles.

When the soil gave way under the tractor's left side the left loader arm contacted a small doug fir tree, which very slowly got pushed over. This tree cushioned the fall and nothing was hurt on me or the tractor. The worst damage was when one of the battery caps fell off (apparently it was loose) and battery acid spilled out. Had to flush it all and get a new battery but that's small stuff.

Thank you all so much. I went and looked at the 4115 and the BX23. The local New Holland dealer (1) didn't have one on site to look at and (2) Failed to show up for an appointment to look at the property so he could "advise" me on the purchase. So... I think I'm leaning hard toward the Kubota. I just posted a price question at the Kubota price category, but I'll repeat myself here. Is $16,370 for the BX23 a decent price? They're offering the 60" MMM for $1,765; the tiller at $1,400 and the PHD for $675. Thanks again. Really appreciate the advice from people who know what they're talking about.

OK, I think I've decided on the BX23. Now I need to know if they're offering me a decent price... BX23 for $16,370 (10" bucket); 60" MMM for $1,765; PHD for $675; and tiller for $1400. Does this sound like a reasonable deal? Thanks.

I've been looking at tractors for a few months. My wife and I just purchased 45 wooded acres where a farm used to sit many years ago. In addition, the property was timbered about 12 years ago. So what we have are mostly wooded acres with about 7 acres of meadows in the middle, where we will build a house in a couple of years. The existing driveway, which we will use is roughly 850 feet, but it needs work. The meadows that used to be fields are very "lumpy" with breyers everywhere. The wooded section has stumps and treetops everywhere. I want a machine that can handle this work as well as last me for many, many years. <br>

With the tractor, I want to flatten the grassy areas, brush hog the breyers, cut the driveway and then maintain it, mow the lawn, remove snow, prepare areas for deer food plots. <br>

I believe I found that machine and I'm looking for validation from you tractor experts. The machine I'm probably going to buy is a 1999-2000 Kubota L3710HST. It has 1600 hrs on it and is in great condition. It was owned by a mennonite who never used the tires/wheels, but instead, used steel wheels with a rubber track on the outside. Needless to say, the tires and wheels look brand new. The machine, other than the loader looks like a 9 out of ten. The loader is probably a 7. <br>

I'm getting the tractor serviced, the tires filled and delivered for 14K ( I live 1.5 hrs away.) The only attachment other than the loader is a brand new woods 60" brush bull, which is included in the price.<br>

Am I getting a fair deal? Is this a good tractor to suit my needs? ...and don't worry, I'm going to try to get the dealer to throw in a couple of Kuboater Hats.<br>

I use a 2-4D product every fall. My pasture rotation runs about 7 days. I wait that long before grazing after application and like to see a shower during that time also. Never had any problems with my horses. Proceed carefully I generally go a little weak with it as some rye grasses are subject to it and clovers.

well, to answer your question, I read the advertisments on the internet about Lenar tractors. I felt that from reading there ads that the tractor would give me at least a couple of yrs of trouble free use. I did not think to ask him if he was a certified mechanic, it was him and an older gentlemant putting these tractors together. They had a nursery business and he lived on site. I felt that since this was his home, he would be there to help with any future repairs, which he was, under the dealers warranty.
At the time of purchase, I just purchased the acreage for my horse farm, I had a lot of fencing to do, some dirt to move, ect. This was why I thought I was making the right decision to buy a new machine, I am a Millwright, and a farmer with new land and a new home being built. I did not have the time for any setbacks from breakdowns from a used machine, so I bought a new one. Jim replaced the machines when they broke or had problems that would not go away, that is what I expect for my money, SERVICE, when the tractor broke in half, he gave me the option of letting him fix it, which he said would take 3-4 weeks, or accept a new machine, I really did not think that the change in a loader would make a difference since it accepted all the other attachments, so I accepted the different tractor with a different loader, but through use, I found I was wrong. I had the perception that the Lenar tractor would be serviced by any mechanic. You see the sale of a product is split into two realms. One is perception, the other is reality. When a sales company such as Lenar advertises such things as Ford backed, QC quality, WARRANTY, and such, it gives the buyer the perception that he is purchasing a quality product. Four Lenars later, the other realm sets in, the realm of reality, and that is that "You just bought into a bunch of Horse $#$%." My dealer went belly up, and to be honest with all of you, I feel that he has been taken by Lenar as well. The way I would conduct business if I were to sell Lenar Tractors, is I would sell them only if Ben agreed to stay in the store with me. And then for every Lenar tractor that I sold that came back with a manufactures defect, I would slap the $#$% right out of Ben, and fix the tractor. Sooner or later, this way of doing business would get the manufacturer to improve on quality, or get Ben to stop importing scrap steel.

Jarndt, in that picture there are 21 shiny new 'Bota's. That is not the whole fleet, I just took a picture of those ones the day I we had to do the final inspection and pre-delivery paperwork at the dealership. I thought some of the memebrs would find it interesting to seethem all lined up like that.

Those particular ones were purchased for snow removal, sidewalks mostly, in the winter and construction work in the summer, although some of them do other things as well. We have several on contract all year long to one Municipality, we also have several which work all year at a big marina, they move & launch boats in the summer and clean snow and assist with ice fishing a stuff in the winter.

You'll be happy with the BX. Definately the best bang for the buck. Just make sure you stick to implements designed specifically for sub-CUTs. The B-series may give you a little more versatility with regard to implements, depending on your specific needs outside of mowing.

Just to update everyone, I bought the 3430 HSTC tractor about a month ago, and I'm in love! I did buy the Woods RDTH72 finish mower, and it's the best move I've ever made regarding mowing.

Before deciding on the MMM or RFM, I spoke to a landscaper friend of mine who has two tractors, both with MMM's (one is a HUGE John Deere--I had no idea they made MMM's for tractors that big!). He told me of difficulty getting around obstacles with a MMM--that basically if you can't go under something you can't mow around it. This isn't as big of a problem for him since he has someone trimming right behind him, but for me I want the option to mow under low-hanging branches, etc., where possible (I have several!). Plus--this thing is sooooo easy to remove and reinstall--even out in a field on uneven ground (but some of this could be due, too, to the great 3-pt system on the Kubota).

The RFM has been incredible thus-far. I was truly afraid of the cut it would give--I imagined a so-so but fast cut, and boy was I very, very wrong. It gives the prettiest cut I've ever seen--even better than my neighbor's commercial 50-inch JD garden tractor. And it does do it SO quickly. Last Saturday my neighbor was having family in, and he couldn't mow his front field with his JD due to a heavy dew that morning. It just kept clumping and bogging the mower down. He called me, I sped over there and mowed it with no problem. We're talking 8" tall grass soaking wet with dew up and down a hill with *no* bogging down. Can ANYTHING bog this tractor down???? One thing I'll definitely say--the rear discharge is the way to go, too. The chains thatch the grass, so even the thickest, wettest grass doesn't clump as it would with a side discharge.

MMM's definitely have their place, and I can see lots of advantages to them over a RFM. But in my opinion, RFM's are much more versatile than MMM's. I can mow over my ditches and drop-offs by "hovering" the mower, I can back under small trees and bushes, I can easily remove the mower (belly mowers are much harder to remove, and it's necessary to do so if you plan on FEL work, grading on rough terain, etc), and so-on. As for looking back while mowing, I did that the first two times I mowed, but now I "know" where the mower is and never look back unless I'm backing up to get close to something, etc.

Lastly, I've not had a problem yet with the grass being "mashed" down by my tires only to stand up later--something one person posted would happen. Maybe the RFM has a good uplifting air current(?), but thus-far it hasn't happened despite mowing in very wet grass with a 4000+pound tractor (3430 HSTC Cab tractor with fluid-filled R-4 tires). Also, I've not had any "tearing" of my lawn even though I constantly leave the tractor in 4wd (but I NEVER mow when the actual soil is wet--I'm sure it'd tear the ground then).

Anyway, I wanted to post my experience on here just in case anyone is thinking of buying a RFM. I actually came close to not buying it from fear of how it would do, and that would've been a huge mistake! As a matter-of-fact, my neighbor, who owns a sub-compact 1980's Kubota (and the JD 50" garden tractor) went out and bought a RFM (60" Bush Hog) after I mowed his grass for him that morning.

Ok, lets say you get the B7800 and then oopps an accident with the 60". The manual for the B2910 recommends a 48" rotary (bush hog). If one damages the tractor with a 60" your warranty is void. Don't just listen to the dealers they will tell you it can move mountains..take the info with a grain of salt. Get a manual for the tractor you are interested in and see what is recommended.

Thanks again for all of the help. I think I'm going to buy the CUT with FEL and box blade, and rent the mini excavator per your advice. That saves me nearly 5 grand on the backhoe attachment that I'll likely never need again. If the excavator is that much fun, I might have the whole yard dug up by Monday. Thanks again -

just bought a 8 acre horse farm - 6 acres pasture/2 acres lawn. Trying to figure out which tractor to buy. Aside from mowing and rough cutting, I will need the tractor for moving manure, feed, and other stuff, snow removal on 300 ft driveway, and post hole digging for fencing. Shouldn't need to do too much with hay since it will be delivered to the barn. I would like to stay under $15k for tractor, FEL and belly mower. I have been looking at JD 4110, 4115, 855, and 790 used and new models. Any help would be appreciated -thanks, Michael

This is my second 110. The first one broke down 4 times in 12 hours. I told them thats it, come get it. They gave me a few days to calm down and offered me a better deal to take another. As you see I did, it broke in 3 hours. Been fine for the last 100 hrs.I like the power of the hoe for it's size and what the loader will lift. I have dug out and moved some large boulders,as I'm sure you know, Lucerne is made of bolders. It operates like a skid steer, very quick and agile,the front actually will slide sideways when going from forward to reverse, I've never used the brake. I also like how you can move the machine from the backhoe with the creep controll with two fingers.The down side is the dealers. All the JD dealers I have been to, know nothing about machines and sell full retail from the book, kinda like the new Harley Davidson dealers. Every time I go in for something I check their knowlege. The front diff takes hydro 20 low visc oil. So when I went in to get some I asked what do I put in my 110 front axle, he grabbed a bottle of 90 weight gear oil and said this is what it takes, are you sure?? yup, can you look it up? ok........hmmmm!!! guess I'm wrong. I have done this several times on different things. I like Union Farm Equipment, good old boys, from farm country, they know their equipment and implememts, if they don't have an answer they say let me find out. They have good equipment too, Kubota and New Holland. I bought my machine in Union at Hammond tractor, across the street, $6000. less then local dealers. Just did a job on the Hog Bay road. I lived on 182 in Franklin, last house on the left before the cemetary, my dad bought it in 1968 for $4500.and fixed it up.

Thanks again - I think I need all the stability I can get as I get used to the equipment. Grape-growing may have to be less intensive, as it will only be part of tractor use. Perhaps with a few hundred hours under my belt I'll feel more comfortable, and reduce the track, but for now....! Cheers from the very deep south - where winter has just commenced, cold and wet, but rarely any snow.
