Sorry, about the confusing message. I will only be mowing about 3-4 acres. The remaining property is wooded. So I will be using the tractor for other purposes as well as mowing. I was concerned that there might be a significant quality differnce between the JD and the Kubota. Assuming that the price is close, is there a reason to pick one over the other? I had a dealer quote me 9,800 for the JD yesterday and another 1,675 for a 62" MMM.

If the excavated material has to be moved very far a CUT will still be needed unless there is somewhere to get a truck in with out causing too much collateral damage.

For a tennis court you could have it dug in a day provided you could get the excavated material out of the area fast enough.

A mini-ex rents for about $200 a day and they are a blast to run. A weekend rental would probably get you done even with the learning curve.

A dump trailer behind a CUT is how we deal with material al the time, it is actually very fast when you compare how much time it takes to restore the area if you were to drive across much turf or landscaping with dump trucks.

Thanks for that comment, and to all others who responded in this and other threads - I've made the decision for a 4410/430/4-in-one bucket - around $US28K all up - on order last week, for delivery in 4 weeks or so. Longer term view of possible need for the extra grunt at some time was a key factor in my decision. Dealer came down a little more on price, and treated me very well during the decision - including coming onsite and walking the property with me to advise re slopes etc. - great service, which I would expect to continue post-purchase.

All of are trailer floors are Red Oak, but then our horses are Belgians (draft horses) and the corks in their shoes would shred a softwood floor in no time flat if it wasn't as tough as nails.

Maybe light horses aren't as tough on floors as their bigger cousins.

The Italians, like the Japanese, think of what we call a CUT as a full-sized farm tractor, this is because what we would call a nice size building lot is a farm to them.

The Same, Carraro, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and a few other manufacturers make fairly decent stuff. As Art mentioned they have some very revolutionary designs. They are very popular here but usually just in ares where vineyards and the like are common.

These machines are also designed to work on terrain where most of us would never even think of going with a CUT. They do it effortlessly. The DOT here bought a few of them equipped with mower decks a few years back for cutting the grass on the more sloped sections of the highway medians. What Lucerne mentioned is true, the machines where only limited by their tires ability to bite in and hold. I saw a crew working and the guys picking up the trash could barely walk on the hillside and the machine was just flying back & forth below them.

Gents, the implement that Chip is talking about is a side-delivery hay rake. Chip is right about field use, it is intended to move cut hay into a narrow windrow where it can be picked up by the baler.

It will do the same thing with anything that is not too heavy, we use one to do clean ups at a local race track after big events. We run around the place raking all the litter into rows where it can be picked up easily with pitch forks. If the seaweed is too heavy the spring fingers will just flex and drop the material, the trick seems to be to travel really slowly in heavy stuff and let it just nibble away at the material.

It also makes a FANTASTIC de-thatching tool.

Thanks a lot for advice on CUT purchase from a number of members a few weeks back. I've just ordered a JD4410, 430 loader with JD 4-in-1 bucket, locally-manufactured (Kanga brand) multiclamp (offset and tilt-adjustable rear grader). Main decision drivers were... 35 HP on mid-range frame, excellent treatment (so far) by JD dealer, local farmer reference, plus my (novice) subjective feel of operator position and controls, electronics. I've asked dealer to load rear tires with fluid, and also to set them at max width, for improved stability on my 10 acres of slopes. I just looked at kwschumm pic 11 - first time I've seen what max width setting would look like, and raises the question as to any downside of this width - mechancial, ride harshness, etc. Appreciate any advice - and thanks again for advice to date (sorry to post this on kubota board - no criticism of kubota intended!)

Tim, congrats to you & your two lucky friends.

You think you had fun ordering 3 machines at once and watching the salesman squirm, take a look at my picture # 6. I had to take the dealer out for lunch and get a couple of beer into him to get him relaxed enough to even talk price, then he had to call Kubota 3 times just to make sure they were going to back him up on the deal.

Come to think of it I didn't beat him up for hats, I had to get those from the factory, oh well, there's always next time.

I just picked mine up last week. I have a front end loader and mid mount mower. I worked it over HARD this past weekend. It ran great. I dug up some autumn olive trees with the front end loader. I was really surprised at how much power it had for its size. The mower worked great, but I wish I had a bush hog style for the field grass. I bought the 24 HP because of it's size in a small package. I wish they had an indication that the parking brake was on, because I could easily drive in low with it lightly engaged. I didn't notice I had it set unless I removed my foot from the foward petal and came to an abrupt stop. I didn't get the cruise control or automatic fwd. So far, I really don't need them, even mowing around the fence row on a 60 acre farm. I haven't performed any maintenance on it yet, since the first is scheduled at 10 hours. I can already see the oil filter accessability is going to be a two step process to remove a guard to get to it. Mine was brand new, the tractor 9.5K, MMM-2K, and FEL, 2.7K.

You have to buy that at the dealer. I had to replace mine a few years back, which I attempted in vane to find a manufacturer that made a similar replacement. None are available. The spline diameter & mounting are standard, but the spline length and support bearing race on the shaft is special to Case. So be prepared to dig deep.

I just did an Intenet search for Exmark -- the nearest dealer is about 40 minutes away. As a firm believer in dealer support, I would lean toward buying a different brand from a dealer that is closer by. Anyone else have thoughts on the Husqvarnas? Other local dealers carry Scag, Toro, Simplicity, Troy Built, Snapper, John Deere -- I'm sure there are others but I haven't looked to extensively yet. Thanks!

How does a 7510 do with a 5' brush hog? I keep going back and forth between buying a 7800 and a 7510. I will have horses on roughly 5 acres and want to be able to brush hog fencelines, the occasional paddock, and a steep but small hill (maybe 1/2 acre total). Everything has been cut once or twice a year for the past 10 years, so it is mostly grass and small stuff. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Oneace once you get the hang of putting the hoe on and off it is easy. I can take it off in under 5 min and put it on in about 8 min.

4x6 size is fine. If too big or too hi-res, it can be shrunk. Can't go the other way. Thanks.

It's the rings. Yanmar makes a 1/4 mm and 1/2 mm overize
pistons. Expect them to be 67-88/ea, incl rings. I am
doing my 3rd 3TN84 rebuild now.

Thanks for the reply Oneace. I didn't realize the 84" MMM was a rear discharge. In my experience all of the rear discharge decks I've used leave a lot of clumps compared to the side discharge decks. Have you had the same experience? TIA, Stan Wilhite, Decatur AL.
