I think it is more correctly stated that the 7800 is an economy version of the 2910. The weight, size and drive train are identical.

It seems my "power assisted" steering has left the building! (I have calius' to proove it!) I have changed the hydraulic fluid. PTO and 3 point lift still operate. No problem shifting. <br>
What could be the problem? I have no idea how thw steering system works. Any assistance will be great. <br>

P.S. There is a small leak at the base of the steering tube. I imagine this would have alot to do with it not operating. Is the answer to my problem is simply repairing the leak, why did the steering work for a year after the leak started?

I was in the same boat with the tire tracks, but I knew that I would get into some heavy stuff, and wanted to buy one cutter that would last me the rest of my life...a lighter duty cutter sounds like it will do exactly what you need, and you won't worry about HP if you get into some heavier stuff. If you mow a little more often, you'll be able to keep your ground speed up too. Until I decided on this Bush Hog, I was considering a KK, Land Pride, or a Woods lighter duty unit. I think the best considerations of these cutters are weight of the unit (direct correlation to gauge of the deck), gear box rating (mine is rated at 110 HP, "OVERKILL", and a slip clutch. I paid $1650 for my Bush Hog, and you can get a lighter duty unit for 1/2 of that.

The unit has 1400 hours and runs fine. I had topped off the coolant and ran for about 2 hours cutting my grass didn't heat up or use any coolant. I checked the coolant after it cooled down and it didn't use a drop. I think i am ok now.

An autotransport service is an excellent idea. You can have a car shipped cross country for $700, way less than a local hauler that would charge at $1.00-$1.50 per mile. A car hauler doesn't care what they are transporting as long as it has an engine and wheels. I've even seen golf carts and ATV's on autocarriers. A bigger tractor (>50hp) might be more of an issue though simply due to size and weight.

If the work is only occasional, a rental might be a good option. You can rent a small TLB unit for about $150 a day. You could do a lot of trenching with a rental for the cost of a backhoe attachment. Another option... Go ahead and purchase a new BH unit, use it, and then sell it as a late model with low hours and recover much of the original cost. A little research on resale value would tell you how much it would cost over the lifetime of your useage. Only downside is cashflow and some risk.

I wouldn't go over a 42" model for a brush hog. That tractor has a very small pto hp rating. MMM don't take as much power to turn as a brush hog. I see your in maryland, I just happen to have a 42" landpride for sale. Its located in Mt. Airy. see classifieds.

I have only ran a 655, not a 670, but the 670 is the gear drive version of the 655. A loader is hard to find. I would recomend built one your self. The guy i bought my 48" landpride off of built one for his 850. You could get an after market one. Let us know if you get it.

When it comes to tractors never go smaller, always go bigger. Once you have had power and lost it, you will never forgive yourself for trading it. If you do decide to trade maybe a B2910, not a BX23. Then you still have some power that you had. I want trade in my B7500 right now, but means replaceing every attachment except my rock rake. So a new tractor would cost X plus new brush hog, rear blade, box scraper, MMM, loader, tiller, snow blower, snow plow. Plus I would want to add a back hoe. I got one neighbor with a L2900 on 2.2 acres with only 1.4 acres of grass. He used to have a house on 9 acres. So it could work.

Maybe I am confused? I think that the larger impliments get hooked up with the same sized tractors and the other way around otherwise it might break?

What a two stage clutch means is, You should be able to push the clutch down about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way down to stop ground travel while the pto keeps turning. At that point you should feel the clutch pedal get a little stiffer and if you push it all the way down, the pto will stop. If it does not work this way, it either needs adjustment or replacement.

The smoke you are seeing is combustion gasses that leaks past the piston rings. A small amount is normal and is expected. A drip or two of oil is also ok. If the oil leakage gets excessive or the smoke gets excessive the it is time for a overhaul. If compression leaks too bad you will notice hard starting. As long as it starts normally and does not lose excessive oil, I wouldn't worry about it.

I've always mowed around the 540 mark on the tach--sometimes seems like a different engine speed depending on how thick the grass is. The gas consumption is certainly higher mowing than plowing the driveway, using the box blade or loader. Not sure how long a tank lasts since I fill mine up after it gets around 1/2 empty.

You may not be saving $$ by putting an aftermarket loader on these new 4000/4010 series units. Unless the loader is designed for these machines, it may end up costing in repairs in the long run.
