If you buy one of these tractors based on specs alone, you'll be doing exactly what the marketing dept. thinks you will. That's why they spec'd them as they did, just as they did the rest of the JD line.

I went though the same decision last fall and bought a 4110, after talking with a JD dealer 3 states away who was a friend of a friend, and said basically: "the 2210 is spec'd to appeal to people who shop by specs -- the 4010 is more tractor". Yes, he said *4010* and he meant it. I later figured out that he was right. Based on general tractor useage, the 4010 is more machine.

No offense to the 2210 owners here -- they're both excellent machines for different purposes. If your needs are more the conventional homeowner ones, the 2210 is probably the better choice. For me, doing 6 cords of firewood a year out in the woods, clearing a long driveway in the winter, with lots of dirt and fill to move, and mowing as a distant 4th in useage, the 4110 was the right choice. Every day I use it I breathe a sigh of relief that I bought it and not the 2210, nor for that matter, the 4115.

The 4110 is the perfect size machine for MY use -- big enough to do real work, small enough to fit where I need it to go. If it was even an inch wider or with a longer wheelbase, it just wouldn't work for me. OTOH, if the wheels were any smaller, it wouldn't work out in the woodlot.

Given where you're at, A TEST DRIVE is the right way to tell. Specs are a good start, but getting on the tractor will tell you from the seat of your pants what to do. If you can, drive them both in quick succession at the same dealer.

reach above the battery from the back of the gator and remove the pin that holds the lift acuator to the frame. No tools neded. Then manually lift bed from the front.

30-45 HP in a used tractor will be close to the same price. If you are not going to round bale and do not have many hills 35 HP will be enough.

If you bought a 4110 and implements the dealer should be happy to come out and help you figure it out. You put a LOT of money in his pocket, and he's responsible for making the situation work right for you on delivery.

I called my dealer this spring, 4 months after delivery, when I was having trouble getting the draft links to clear with the rear blade mounted, and he came out and figured it out on his dime, and he's a 45-minute drive away. In most cases, they sincerely want you to be happy.

It seems like measuring injector pulses requires a pretty complicated apparatus. A simpler design might be to attach a magnet/sensor to the engine pulley. It would work like a bicycle speedometer except it would not have to be scaled to wheel diameter as needed for miles per hour.

I tried to see if my bike speedometer might be scaled to give some reading relative to RPM but I haven't ridden it in so long the batteries have all died. :-(

Weld up a 3point frame for the barrel. 12 volt pump automatically shuts off at 60ps...if you start pumping it turns on. A remote hand held switch gives you complete control from the drivers seat. Works like a charm. 3 Fan spray tips will give you an 8.5 foot spray path. The hand wand and 60psi will shoot a stream of liquid 30 feet with good volume. <br>

I'm half way done with this nifty 4X6x2 hydro dump trailer I've been working on forever. They don't give away those 12 volt hydro pumps with 1 gallon reservoirs either do they? Thank God for Ebay, no reserves, and last minute bidding, and estate sales. I been looking for one of these pumps for 6 months. No wonder why these dump trailers cost 2500.00 bucks....LMAO

Isheaffer, I have the pto adapter on already, but how hard is it to install the reverser and how much do they cost. It could come in handy if I ever wanted to run a tiller.

I keep forgetting that some tractors had self-bleeding systems even 10 years or more ago. I've never been clear if 'self-bleeding' includes the injector lines but an owner's manual should clear it up. The issue is that if there's too much air in an injector line then it will compress and the injector may not develop enough pressure to open. How a self-bleeding system would clear air in an injector line seems mysterious--maybe the lines are short enough so it can't happen.<br>

My Ford has an oil fill for the injector pump. New oil is added at oil changes just to clear old oil out of the pump. The pump is fed from the engine but I think I have heard of pumps that aren't fed from the engine. Anyway, the pump oil level might be normal and the manual should clear up the issue. Sounds like it would be good to verify that fuel is being delivered to the injectors. A fuel shut-off solenoid sure could be an explanation. If it has one, there should be a click when the key is turned on.

I think Brn's question about the 35-degree slope and 72" mower should be addressed before going on to my usual speculation and bumphf about HST's etc.

It's going to vary from tractor to tractor but some manufacturers publish recommended max operating angles. I seem to remember 25-degrees max for some tractors but could be 35. Recommendations likely would be pretty conservative but I think 35-degrees is definitely in the risk range and it's not an issue to take lightly. Most finish mowers run on the own wheels and wouldn't load the rear much--that is in when their down and haven't snagged anything. Always the chance of something unexpected happening on a slope though. The weight of a mower is centered pretty far behind the hitch and I suspect things could get pretty dramatic if it came up on a hill.

Keeping my bumphf uncharacteristically short maybe I should just say that I don't know and maybe more bumphf later. If oil starvation produced oil cavitation, I've heard that pumps can make a rattling or buzzing sound. Maybe Mark's tires do outmatch his HP/TX. You'd think that it could produce huge torque multiplication in low range (gears) and minimum motor displacement if that's how the TX is designed. An advantage of variable displacement motors is supposed to be high output torque at low speeds. Who knows? Wonder how the reversing is handled. Maybe somebody knows for sure!

I just bought a 4710 with a MX6 rotary mower. Everything is great except that I need some weights on the front. Is there anyplace that sells the weights for the front except the JD dealer?<br>

My JD dealer has a regional guide for used tractors that takes into account, hours, condition, and other factors to estimate a really good estimate of retail or trade in value. FOr example, my 1996 JD870 with 440 loader (larger than the one you are looking at) would retail for 14,500 to 15,000 here in the Pacific Northwest in excellent condition. There are other guides, but a regional guide seems like the way to go.

Anyone have some input on helping me decide between either the Kubota 3830 w/ 723 FEL or the 4630/ 5030 with FEL R4 etc. How much dif will I see for moving dirt, brush hog (6ft) box blading etc... It's a mere 3,000 even dif for the 4630 over the 3830. I drove both around the yard, but without being able to work with them both for a couple hours use on site I can't make up my mind. The $ is not too much of a deal, but they both seem very similar except for paper specs etc..Opinions ? Aloha, David.

My new ck20hst should be delivered next week so I stopped to pick up my manuals today (a little advance reading). The dealer had my tractor manual and my FEL manual but no manual for my rear mount rotary mower or back blade or york rake. Shouldn't I at least be getting a manual for the rotary mower? I understand that most york rakes and back blades usually have a short manual too. BTW does any one know who makes these implements for Kioti? Thanks in advance. Burt

Brokenarrow, you have that Italian blood in you too, huh? I also installed a new garage door (not overhead but standard size) for my mother recently and had to do some customizing. My door had a metal bottom plate but sat on the concrete fairly well. If you have some play I would recommend some shims and caulk, and maybe even get those tap screws where you drill a 3/16" hole and then screw the blue screws into the concrete. They work really well.

Glad to hear I'm not alone in the opinion of the grass catcher! Aside from the 2x4 idea, helper(or 2) and the linch pins, I've found that liberal amounts of cussing helps get the **** thing on and off. The vacuume works so well, it's ashame it's so much of a pain to install/remove.
