I think plotting a mowing pattern might help if that hasn't already done. Biggest thing is to eliminate mowing across hills. Next is to avoid going up hills without adequate front weight. If working on side-hills can't be eliminated, then adding weight on the uphill side might help. However, the 'how-to' likely are all hare-brained and no to be recommended. Besides, then any hills would have to be cut going in the same direction. That may take some planning or it might take a bunch of driving around without doing any work time. Nothing easy here but domestic strife is good to avoid and maybe some extraordinary measures would serve well.

The hydraulic fluid is not dangerous to your skin. The problem is when it is under pressure, it will shoot through your skin and cause severe problems. My uncle is a painter and told me a story of a guy cleaning a paint sprayer and hit the trigger shooting latex paint into his hand. It turned black and eventually had to be amputated. Make sure to wear safety glasses as well when looking for the leak.

Said it before but my belief (beliefs aren't facts) is that corporate policies for safety/liability issues impose working designs that are well below structural limits. If that's true, relief pressures are a safety thing and not a structural thing. Of course, a typical management would find it almost irresistible to engineer the structure down to the liability limits. I can see that a corporation wouldn't want to have new operator/owners to be able to have huge loader weights and then lift them up high to dump them while sitting on a side-hill. They'd likely find themselves in a MacCoffee trial. They'd probably use lower relief settings and recommend small buckets instead. Too bad but warning the stupid isn't a safe practice anymore. Safety engineering has the effect of reducing the useful work and expensive tractor could otherwise do given skilled operation.

An earlier part of this thread might distinguish between types of relief valves. I think there are circuit types and pressure line types, and a valve assembly can have one, the other, both or none of them. Don't know about this particular valve. If it has circuit reliefs they should protect the cylinders, hoses etc while valves aren't in operation but at pressures above the system pressure.

Well, he told me the Kubota was more expensive, but wasn't sure howq much more. I asked for a ballpark figure and he told me around $250, but that he'd have to check. When he checked his books, the difference came out to be $1000. If he had told me a firm $250, I definitely would make an issue of it.

I'm simply trying to find out if the $250 was a genuine mistake, or if he just inflated the price of the Kubota loader now that he knows I have to purchase this loader with the cab tractor.

I have the 7800 and I like the QIV on it. If I am using the box blade with the rippers and I start to loose traction I can bump it up a 1/4" at a time until I regain traction. I have used it to grade my driveway and I don't see a problem. As Tom said regardless of what type of 3ph you have it will follow the tractor and you will have to get the hange of it.

I think I'd want to see credible maintenance records for the tractor to see what's already been done.

In 3500 hours, the tractor may have had a new clutch and working on a second one, new injectors, new injector pump, new hydraulic pump, as well as work on the starter, alternator and shift rails/linkage. Some engine work rebuild work also may be looming at these hours although most well maintained and operated engines should go longer.

You might check the price and availability of some of these parts and labour at a New Holland dealer. If the tractor hasn't had quite a bit of work done on it, the price of labour and parts should heavily (very heavily) discount the market value.

Bought it used 10 years ago and use less than 50 hours per year. It's run great up til now. Was cutting high grass and it started to sputter..as if running out of gas (but tank was at least half full). Now it wont start. Cleaned water seperator and front fuel filter. Drained fuel and added new fuel, still wont start..just cranks fast. Any ideas before I call the JD doctor..?? many thanks <br>

As mentioned in another thread, I built the CADDigger 728 about 6 y ago. That was before I had a tractor. My costs, not incl labor, was about $2600. I see web sites of similar machines today costing $3500 plus labor. What I do not understand is why build a homebuilt if you have a tractor and you can buy much better new fatory-built hoes for a bit over $4000, such as the Prairie Dog?

The 2610 I have has a Fiat engine. As far as I know all Longs have Fiat engines and correct me if I'm wrong please. I have a neighbor that has a 1977 Long and the engine looks just like the 1997 model I have.I think his is a 560. May be less HP but same design. The 610 Long has the same engine as the 2610. Long only made a few changes to the tractor over the years. Sheet metal for one and they added a 9 inch spacer between the tranny and rear end. Big improvement I might add too.Steering was change 3 times that I know of. Other than that it stayed the same.

I know where there's a 610 setting. I don't know why it was parked but can get in touch with the guy and see what's wrong with it. I'm in Va. and that may or may not be to far for you. I'll give em a call if you like. I'm sure the engine on it would have to be rebuilt. That tractor was farmed hard and has a bunch of hours on it. Expect you could get it cheap though.

On the reply about the Farmtrac. My new 80 will be delivered the end of the week. It has a Perkins 4 cyl. engine in it. The 70 on down have the ford type engine and those are 3 cylinder. The 2610 is 4 cylinders so they're not the same engine.

The 2610 is now 680 with new emissions gadgets on board.

Long has three different tractors now. Landtrac, Longtrac and Farmtrac.

Bigtractor if you find out what came loose in the engine please give us a report. Sounds like a connecting rod or maybe a wrist pin broke.

Well murphy & murf, I will soon be jioning you as an irish man with an orange tractor. I am trading the green thing in for a Kub. The wierd thing was the dealer steered me away from the 3430 & over to the 3130 hst. The 3130 was a good foot taller b/c of the tire size. i fell in love.

I found the information very informing. I did not know I could get a new mower for that price. Something to knock around the finantial front for future purchases. When I was looking at used equipment I saw alot of expensive rust.
