If you are interested in making a fairly sturdy, durable structure but want to spare the uncertainty of questionable trees there is one more option, especially since you are only talking about 10' up.

If you check with your local sawmill they will likely have, or have access to, some smaller logs which would make nice 6"x6" beams. Four of those about 16' long (or longer) and stuck 4' or 5' down in the ground in some concrete and cross-braced diagonally would support a pretty fancy tree house. It could also be constructed wherever you wanted that way, in amongst the trees, or not.

What Murf was describing is something similar or the same as what some people have done for a seawall along the Lake Huron shoreline. That stuff really works but is not the most beautiful thing to look at from some points of viewing. Back filling with a number of loads of large rocks will do the same thing but in a more natural setting.

MY BX2230 with 60 MMM is cutting very nicely
The grass is very heavy because it has been raining everyother day, but it still cuts very smooth,in some places I am going back over it twice just to mulch up the clippings.

I sort of comprimised with the ground hogs. I leave them so much land that is grown up to dig their holes and I keep about 4 acres mowed for me. If they don't stick to my rules then I remind them and leave the dead for their friends to see!!!! I've only had to fill in 3 or 4 holes and in the past year I haven't had any to fill in.

On one lot I used to own, we just set a cheap bush hog real low and cut it every couple of weeks. The downsides are the cut of course is not as good and the runners will leave ruts if you aren't careful (mainly on turns) and it would stick out a little farther in the back than a finish mower. The grass didn't look bad and it didn't take nearly as long. The other upside is a cheap bush hog shoudn't cost but maybe a 1/3 of the finish mower. It won't look the prettiest but it will get the job done.

The small baler does sound like a slick little unit, but for small volume/acreage I hink one of the older small units would be a better choice.

Mr. Carter, I HAVE been mistaken before, MANY times in fact, and I'm not sure why you think I alledged you STARTED this thread.

I also made no mention of who makes what equipment or where.

What facts did I get wrong BTW? I said it was sounding suspiciously like a 'spam', it is defined in an online glossary of internet terms as "SPAM - Basically sending information to people who in no way asked you to send that information."

Your post was in reply to someone asking "From what I have read, it sounds as if 35 hp may be the minimum for hay, but could I get by with less for square baling?". It would not be out of line to suggest price ranges or comparables, new or used, as Art did, who BTW, did not link to his farm equipment dealership website.

The original post also said the poster was thinking/leaning towards a 35hp tractor, so what does "Does any other USA company have a drum mower that works on a 20 HP tractor?" have to do with anything?

Please don't get hostile, just offer friendly advise based on your knowledge, like everybody else here does, nobody is disputing you know about small equipment, just hold the sales pitch for those who call or visit you, that's all.

If your 870 has the standard Ag.'s on it they are likely small 24" tires, 11.2's or maybe even 9.5's, if this is the case you can just go to a wider 24" Ag. tire. They make 24" tires up to 16.9 in width.

Likewise, your unit probably has little 5.00 - 15's on the front, they too can be widened out to as much as a 27-8.50-15 if your steering geometry and gear ratio allows it.

That is a very good price for a 4010 with FEL and the front grader blade, very good indeed.

Don't underestimate this tractor. We spend a lot of time here discussing the 2210 and the 4110 but the 4010 gets very little press time.

You probably won't need a rear blade if you have a front blade set-up..... the only feature it lacks is the ability to "ditch".

You most likely won't notice the reduced horse power either unless you plan to run a brush hog.... and even then it will do the job with a smaller unit.

The 4010 may be just what you are looking for in both price range and utility.

Although this was a used tractor when was purchased, it came from a New Holland dealer. If it had a 4 and 1 bucket that was not aproved by New Holland they should have removed or at least let the customer know there might be an issue.

You will want the skid steer detach FEL. The Kubota dealers I talked to didn't even order any without it.

Well, our yard weasel was around a bit last winter but sort of deserted us. Got to find it and beg it to come back. There weren't too many mice around but those that were found a way into my 1/2-ton, chewed up some floor board insulation and dragged it into the heater. Now when I turn on the blower I get a hint of mouse pee--my wife says more than a hint. Dang I don't want to tear off the blower and clean everything out but suppose I have to. Where are those weasels when you need them--probably off voting in more regulations?

Pete: An adjacent rural township amalgamated with a town--big mistake. The resulting town council voted in a by-law that limited the number of cat a household could have. They recognized the arrangements of cats and farmers so allowed more cats outside of town, but they had to be licensed. I don't think I've heard of anything quite as dumb as licensing barn cats--might be interesting trying to put collars on them. Might as well license the yard weasel too, but at least our council haven't taken leave of their senses--nothing but country people here.

If you want to save a few more bucks, and are a little wrench happy, you can save about $1500 on one of these Jinmas by buying them unassebled in the crate. You can handle the shipping a couple different ways, at your door, or delivered to a nearby port. There are several importers that offer this service, and it isn't very complicated. They take care of all the importing hassles.

I have heard that there are usually some assembly problems you may have to overcome, but support is available. If I remember the importers, try looking at Chinaimporters and maybe Best-Used-Tractors.

I go nice and slow, use traction and hydraulic power rather than batter my way through with speed. May take a while, but I haven't broken or bent anything. Put up 2 new (and too big) 'benign' pics of tractor and woods, if you like pics.<br>

Hi. I'm wondering if anybody knows what a new TC33DA or TC29DA should go for in the Seattle area? I'm not sure which one I want yet, but if the price diff is small enough, I will go with the 33. Needs to have hydro, 14LA (no supersteer), R4's, and 757C backhoe. I have found a dealer I like, now I just need to make sure I am getting a fair deal. Thanks. <br>
