It would cost John Deere a MINIMUM of $50,000 to defend such a case in court and no bean counter on earth is going to authorize the expenditure of such an amount over a tractor that can be fixed for $2500.

You are going to have to file suit against them.... it can be done for as little as $50.00 in some jurisdictions....and then let the facts filter up the food chain and back down. That could take a month or 6 weeks.

They will come around, especially if you are prepared to settle for a new, updated, loader and a reimbursement of your attorney/filing fees.

I don't know about price, but if it is more than about $100 it's too much. It is just a small cylinder with a couple of brackets to expand the joint between two moving parts, creating the down force. The cylinder looks remarkably like the ones used to lift the snowplow on a pickup truck, I know from experience they are $50 retail.

Without provoking further slanging, and as an engineer, the question seems simple.

IF the CUT, FEL & B/H are all NH products (whether NH made or out-sourced), and assuming they are properly matched, how is is it possible that products which are DESIGNED to work as a single unit can result in self-inflicted ABUSE.

There is a very old adage in engineering, "If it works, it was done right."

For ANY company to design one component of a system of such over-whelming capacity that it is capable of damaging, let alone DESTROYING another component, is purely and simply negligent. Period. If a B/H or FEL is designed and sold for a particular model of CUT then it had better be designed with the weakest part of that CUT in mind, if it can produce more torsional force than the CUT can withstand, that is negligence.

Negligence is a two-way concept in law. Owners have the same right to expect corporations to be responsible for negligence, such as with Ford/Firestone, as companies do to deny warranty claims based on abuse rather than negligence. But the key is responsibility for the negligence. The negligent party is responsible, PERIOD.

Good advice from Bill and Tom. If you don't have one, get a compression tester. If memory serves, you should have between 75 and 90 pounds of pressure.

Ford cams are gear driven so they shouldn't slip a tooth easily. You can take the side panel off (two bolts) to view the valve train. Maybe a valve is stuck open.

It's not unusual for a small diesel engine to run for a few minutes then die again after air got into the feul system. It may take 15 minutes of fast idle to completely purge all the air out of the injection system.

If you need to use an aid to get it to start just use WD-40, do NOT use starting fluid (ether), it is too volatile and can damage the engine.

You don't say how bad the old filter looked, but if it was very dirty it is possible there is debris elsewhere clogging the system. Take a flashlight and look at the bottom of the tank, that's usually a good place to start, if there is visible debris and or water clean it out, you don't want either going anywhere into the sytem.

I have a BX 1800 w/ 252hrs on it - noticed a lot of play in the steering wheel before the wheels would engage - problem started about a year ago - sometimes wheels wouldn't engage for a few minutes - contacted the dealer who advised at that time that they didn't know, to add more hydraulic fluid. The last time this happened, the wheels wouldn't engage at all anymore and you could spin the steering wheel. Contacted the dealer again - this time I was told that the power steering cylinder had blown - said this was the 3rd BX 1800 he had had complaint about, and that one only had 52hrs on it. He agreed to fix it under warranty since he had been advised about it last year - this is great, but I'm concerned that this will happen again as it appears to be prone to the BX 1800 - I have contacted Kubota and am awaiting an answer -

My dealer's service technician said their is an adjustment for the switches. Mine has problems with the interlock at the rear PTO. I've never looked where the switch is. It is getting worse, so I need to do something soon.

I think there are several interlocks, another at the shifter to insure you are in neutral.

For safety reasons, I wouldn't disconnect the rear PTO safety switch. I have a farm upbringing and can remember allot of old guys in the neighborhood with missing arms and fingers from tangleing with PTO shafts.

Unless you want (need) the lawn to look like a putting green I don't see why you couldn't use a bush-hog to cut the lawn. A lot of rural properties around here are maintained that way. If the blades are sharp, it's set up properly and the ground is pretty flat it will do a very respectable job.

No, you will not like cutting a pasture with a finish mower, besides, as has already been mentioned, a bush-hog is a LOT less money.

The other option is to buy a flail (Mott) type mower with a continous tail roller, it will cutr the pasture just fine, but watch out for the rocks, and will make your lawn look terrific. It is a lot more money than a bush-hog, but less than buying a bush-hog AND a finish mower.

That sounds about right. I do keep my 1710 (similar to a TC29) because there is on-going work that a smaller tractor couldn't manage well. However, the 1710 wouldn't be great for moving because we have a lot of landscaping and out buildings. It would take too long to maneuver and leave too much trimming. I use a riding mower.

A smaller tractor might be generally more busy, but when I need the size and power I really need it and getting contractors to come to the deep country is a little irregular sometimes.

Depending on the land, I'd take care not to create grade with those paths that will cause erosion, because then there'd be lots of maintenance to do.

That site advertises a M602 for $2,700 but doesn't say much about condition or equipment. This is the first one I've found but will keep looking. I sort of "inherited" my old tractor; it runs sweet but needs lots of TLC and knowledge; I'm mostly just a "small acreage home owner", semi-retired, and don't want to spend the hours needed to make it special.

Actually, I think 4oz is pretty close to the total capacity. Even at that, I've never run across an occurence of low pump lube as being the root cause of the problem you described. Please post a followup when you've concluded this is the final fix.<br>

Stump.. I'd try aux lights on the ROPS. It'll give you more light at a better angle than the stock lights . John
