I was talking to a JD tech about some issues I encountered with a 47 backhoe on my 4310 and he gave me a few tips that others might find useful.<br>

One issue is rockshaft adjustment. The rockshaft has to lift really high to pull the hoe into position during installation. When adjusted to lift high enough the rockshaft may then not drop far enough to allow implements to be picked up (at least when using IMatch). By slipping some bushings over the rockshaft pins before installing the backhoe you can gain an extra 3/8" or so of lift which helps make hoe mounting a bit easier.<br>

Also, when removing the backhoe a hose has to be connected to close the power beyond hydraulic circuit. I found that it is difficult to connect the hose because the male connector doesn't have a straight shot into the female due to interference with the seat pivot bolt. If the seat bracket is moved to the other side of the mounting plate an additional 3/8" or so of clearance is gained, which makes all the difference.<br>

That makes more sense to me. I'm just trying to get some idea if that's an option I want to entertain or not. I did see a post where the price was $4000 difference--waaaaay too much for 9 HP in my opinion. $2500, however, is more reasonable. I was hoping, however, the $1500 might be true!

Hi--for those of you who have done this or have any ideas, I am installing the block heater on my 2210, and am curious what the function of the governor cover (?) is. What does the governor do, and do I really need to put this cover on it? It looks like I need to remove the original--seems to have a threaded bolt in it, and then put this cover in its place. Thanks for any hints and ideas.<br>

Generally speaking, for normal work we run the GST's at about 1800 rpm and the HST's at about 2000 rpm.

We adjust rev's for work load using those numbers as a starting point. Some tasks require slower speeds for example, so the deeper gearing allows for lower rpm's but when speed is required, towing a loaded dump trailer for example, then a few more rev's are needed.

Zippy, I run a few Kubota's here in Canada (see my pic. 6) and have a bit of experience, summer & winter with them.

Trust me, the only way you will overheat a Kubota is if the rad screen plugs full of debris.

As for cold weather operation, same deal, they will handle it just fine as you can see by the plows on those units.

We find the best warm up / cool down is to run them at about 1500 rpm's for about 5 minutes.

I would add one small caveat to Frank's comments, he nailed it pretty good already.

If you're going to build your own spray boom, build a few extra cross-arms onto it so that it can be covered with some fabric, like a little tent, so that the spray is completely contained.

As Frank stated, certain plants are VERY susceptible to even relatively small amounts of Roundup. Besides, it will make selective spraying, and not gassing yourself, MUCH easier

I've used Amsoil since 1989. I also go for extended drain. That's where you see the savings.

I use 15w-40 Marine heavy duty diesel engine oil in my tractors and the Hy-trans syn. also. I've had great success with it.

Got a dodge with 209,000 on it now and has had one oil change per year since 1992. It's a 90 model and had 56,000 on it when I bought it used. Change filter at 6 months and change everything at 12 months. Gear oils and grease are also great products.

I don't think you'll be very successful in cleaning out the sludge at the bottom of your oil pan by pouring mineral spirits or kerosene down the filler tube. If you have a paint gun you can put some lacquer thinner in the gun and force it up through the hole from the outside with high air pressure. Lacquer thinner really dries oil nicely and you can get in in any home center. After some number of applications the hole should stay dry. Then put the JB weld on from the outside after you clean and roughen the metal with emory cloth. This cure has worked with my 350 chevy now for over six years.

There are several methods other than pipe thread. Irrespective, I meant only to point out that I think sealant is optional and that there is a right way to use it.

Myself, I use the stuff for used fittings but may not for new fittings since I don't like cleaning it off threads if I'm going to reuse fittings. If I were working commercially I'd probably use it since happy customers wouldn't want to pay for the time it takes to check for leaks and one that ended up with a leak wouldn't be happy at all.

For my education maybe somebody could point to a fitting manufacturer's requirement for sealant or a service manual procedure requirement or if tractors come from the factory with tape or other sealant used--could be but I just haven't seen them. Torque tables are given for fittings (not that they're usually used) but torque values aren't appropriate if tape is used.

I hope the routing and installation issues here don't get lost is what I think of as a sideline subject.

I'm pretty set on buying a Kubota 3430 with a cab. As for my grass, the front yard was planted with Rebel Exceda grass seed (sorry--I don't know the specific types). I have fertilized it with a time-release fertilizer/weed killer that's supposed to fertilize for two months. I think it was a 28-2-2 fertilizer, and boy is my grass green!

The back yard, side field and back field are anyone's guess. I know I have some winter rye in the fields, but that's about it. I plan to reseed all of that (till it under and start from scratch) perhaps in the fall. But for now, it's a veeeeeery thick, fast-growing grass with tall brown stems and regular green grass underneath. The actual back "yard" is mainly fescue I'd assume that's very patchy with weeds, brown spots and bare areas where I've had stumps removed and electrical lines placed underground. Lots of work to do there.

Anyway, in the end, I plan on having a veeeery nice, thick stand of grass similar to the front in all of the field areas and back yard. It'll total about 4 acres or so. As for feeding, I'll just fertilize a couple of times a year (unless, of course, anyone has a better suggestion!).

Similar to Art's thinking, if filters were changed was a dealer filter or after-market substitute used? Were any screens cleaned? I'm assuming the oil is right for the tractor.

I have a 2610 Long that I bought new in 1997. Just traded an old 574IH with Long loader in for a new Farmtrac 80 with a new loader. Haven't gotten delivery yet. Waiting for the loader to be delivered and mounted. I hope the 80 Farmtrac will perform as well as the 2610 has. I drove it around the lot some. Love the sound of that 4 cyl. Perkins. Looking forwaed to getting it in the hay field and filling some hay barns with it.<br>

It at least sounds like I am pretty close with the price they quoted me. I had a another dealer quote the same equipped used tractor with 100 hours for $25K and said new they were around $30K. By the way, that dealer is going out of business.....

I just financed a B7800 for 0% for two years. I could have done it for three but would have been charged a 1.5% financing fee. In either case I only had to put 10 percent down. Anything longer than three years was going to start costing me interest. Not sure if this varies from dealer to dealer or area to area or if the offers have changed in the last two weeks since I made my purchase. Hope that helps.
