The previous owner of my property used to be a tractor dealer so I find all kinds of neat goodies ranging from a 90 lb. cast iron wheel weight to a 1 3/8" chrome plated wrench. I find an occasional civil war bullet or arrowhead too.

Getting back to the original post; $2,000 seem REALLY high for a mid pto. John Deere charges about 1/3 that cost. Are you sure the salesman quoted you a correct price? Perhaps I am not up on Kubota option pricing and hopefully Art can shed some factual light on this.

I prefer the MMM for its better floation, more compact size (especially in tight spaces and the garage/storage building, and a bit better cut. Constantly turning around to look behind you is also another minus in my opinion. The MMM can also be used in conjuction with vaccum systems such as the Cyclone Rake and other similar attachments for Spring and Fall clean up.

All boils down to person preference. One is not necessarily better than the other but just figured I would throw in my 2 cents worth. Best of luck with your decision!

Another source of some really cool high floatation and turf tires of various designs and tread types is McCord Tire Sales & Service. I gotta get me a set of turfs like the set they show on that John Deere for my 4410. Arg!!! Arg!!!! Arg!!!!!!! (Tim the Toolman grunt) ;o)

I, too am looking at a 7510 HSD. I was quated a price of $12,700 with 302 loader. I also looked at the 7800 with 402 loader - $15,500 for that.

I did go with a 7500 woods (used) and a new woods subframe. I have the cub FEL already on the tractor. I hope they are compatible. I'll be bolting them together next week when the arrive.

Grinder, if you mean mulching without collection, I wouldn't recommend it.

The Maple leaves will take too long to decompose unless you can get them REALLY fine and even then you run the risk of preventing more air and moisture from reaching the roots than the good they will do decomposing there.

For the average situation like yours I always recommend collecting the grass & leaves and composting it in a proper composter, sized properly for the volume generated. Then first thing in the spring dethatch the lawn, aerate, fertilize & over-seed (if required) and then top-dress the lawn with last years compost.

Using this method you will get the best of both worlds. The lawn will be able to absorb air, water and nutrients while not being choked with decomposing material. The compost only arrives after it's at the right stage, rich black gold which the lawn can immediately begin to use.

In just a few years of doing this you should have a thick rich lawn with very few weeds.

Our tractors are equipped with electric brake controllers and our hydraulic dump carts have electric brakes on all 4 wheels also.

It sure makes stopping a load of material a lot less stressful.

I agree with what has already been said here. Safety issues and liability are HUGE issues today.

I have a colleague who is a landscaper and took a realhit a few years ago buying some grass machines at an auction. They were Kubota front-deck's, F2xxx series machines.

The problem was, the prior owner, a private club, had a lot of trees and so they har removed the four post ROPS/canopies from all the machines to prevent damage, both to the machine and the trees.

When he went to add them to his insurance policy the broker asked if the ROPS had been modified or repaired, when he said "What ROPS?" the broker said "What insurance?, no ROPS, no private coverage or OHSA coverage and if you put them into service we cancell your whole policy."

Luckily he was able to find all but 1 in used inventory at various dealers, all together it cost him several thousand dollars to buy and install them. The insurance company insisted the installation be done & certified by a dealer.

as you can see I am new to this subject.
I am meeting the local kubota tractor dealer on Tuesday and hope to be reasnoably educated by then.
I am assuming a mid 30s horse power engine, hst transmission, 4WD, good traction tires, loader, no other options at this time, though eventaully I would like an enclosed cab if possible.

Always learning something around here. The minimum pressure for my old turfs listed on their load chart is 12 lbs. I had heard the minimums for R4's were higher. I imagine that tires must have changed if 7 lbs. in the rears is OK for R4's. Never-the-less there should be a load chart for the tires and I wouldn't run pressures below minimum listed on the chart.
